Not in Florida anymore. DeSantis did away with squatter's rights. Occupants are now immediately evicted by the police. If they caused damage in excess of 1k, they are also charged with a felony.

Sorry to say but these days one can longer have sympathy for anyone. Get everything in writing, especially a tenancy agreement, make more frequent site visits, even if you have an agent. Before letting a tenant in, do full investigation of funds, employment, criminal background, etc., The landlords on top of rent arrears, have added expenses of a barrister, repairs, bailiff charges, court costs, damages, repairs, contractors, plus other expenses.
The "ladies of the evening" probably know who the landlord is, but know that they will be out of both a place of employment and a home if they turn him in!!
UK laws are really written stupidly. They prosecute the land owner for what goes on in the property, but they have zero control once they hand over the keys without an order from the courts. At least if the landlord must bear the risk and threat of prosecution, give the landlord more rights and protections to evict tenants. Waiting half a year or more to recover a property from problem tenants is ridiculous!
(According to my partner from England and who went back to live for awhile) many homes are either old homes or built where old ones were so the old ones are still small like 100-100s of years ago. Unlike the US or Australia (our home) where most are much newer
There needs to be a "bad tenant / squatters & bad letting agents" list that landlords and letting agents can refer to when 'vetting' a potential renters.
I think everybody who considers renting a property out, should watch a few of these episodes. They will learn quickly it is best to use an agency and as soon as there are rent arrears, get to court.

In New Jersey, USA squatters have similar rights. Very difficult to remove them once they have “established residence” for even just a short period

I think the percentage that goes towards bailiff fees is also a quite significant.
