This 1983 Suzuki GS1100L is a recent rescue and was purchased as a parts bike with 6k original miles! However, I was able to get it running great and back on the road. It currently has an Ego "Wide Magna" handle bar, conventional Suzuki rear shocks, Rick's stator and regulator/rectifier. Авто/Мото
Nice ride
Thank you.
Hi Jon, I know you have mentioned this in previous videos which I can't now find! What are the handlebars that you have installed on this bike?
Hi Jim, I use the Emgo Magna Wide bar on alot of my bikes (just got one in the mail today for my XS1100 Special).
@@jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538 I’m restoring an xj1100 at the moment which unfortunately has the wrong upper triple tree to accommodate regular bars. I have made a note of Emgo for future projects.
@@jimmackelvie8825 Right on Jim!
Hey Jon. I’m looking into finding one of these. How do you think that this bike would fair on long busy highways? My only concern would be that the top speed would be limiting on todays interstates or big highways. How do you think this bike would fair at long periods of times at the higher, or top speeds?
or is this a weekend and mid speed bike now?
Hi Dave, great question! First of all, no naked bike (regardless of year or manufacturer) is comfortable for long-distance, high-speed riding. The problem is the wind; hurricane-force wind at today's highway speeds. I would recommend a bike with good wind protection especially bikes that have a factory designed fairing. I know, they're not as cool, but think hurricane. 🙂
@@jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538 i figured. thank you for the reply! my current bike is 2006 triumph speed triple 1050, and while this thing looks great, i really dont like it on the highways, and somehow i dont love it in town either :( maybe its just me but i feel like this bike was designed for the country or something. i live in NJ and spend a lot of time on busy suburban roads and then need the interstates to get to my other destinations.
to clarify my question. would i do the bike great harm to have it running in top gear and top speed for around an hour on the highway? what is the top speed on this specific bike (83' gs1100gl). or is just uncomfortable? will it hold steady near other cars and large trucks? or sway in the lanes?
thanks in advance for the reply. and i love the videos. i love older bikes. my other bike is 00' katana 600 gsx600f however that needs restoration which im planning on doing for the 2023/2024 season. maybe i can update you if i ever finish that job and or find my own gs1100gl :)
@@davepearlman5491 More great questions! Top speed on the GS1100GL is around 130 mph so you won't be running it flat out at highway speeds. It has the tallest gearing of my vintage bikes (revs the lowest on the highway). Like any motorcycle, it is somewhat susceptible to blowing around a bit in cross wind (from nature or other traffic). However, it's about average in a crosswind.
I mounted a lower handle bar on my GS1100GL and it helps tremendously by leaning me into the wind at highway speeds. It also greatly improved the handling.
Hi Jon am frustrated with my 81 gs1000g. Have ignition issues. Have you ever tried aftermarket cdi boxes?
Beautiful bike. How do you like that seat bs the stock seat? Looks like something I would want to get if I get a Suzuki.
Thank you. The seat is the stock seat and one of the best I've experienced.
@@jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538 can I put a seat like this in a GS850G or is the frame different?
@@poppatello The L and the G have different seat attachments and I don't think it will work. You may be able to make one work but I haven't tried.
Have you tested to see if it goes faster than the 80 mph it has in the gauge?
Yes. Of course that was on a race track....
@@jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538 so what was it I got one from my uncle and I need to get it fixed but I’m excited. Any tips on where to get parts or hard finding them
@@Trisatn413 Some Suzuki OEM parts are starting to be a challenge. There is still a good bit of aftermarket stuff available. It really depends on what you need. I had to get a few used parts from ebay during the project. The internet makes finding what you need easier.
Im building a 82 KZ1000 LTD.
Nice, I'm building a 1982 Suzuki GS1100GK
Very cool, I'm currently working on a project update video for my 1981 KZ1000 CSR (the spoke-wheeled version of the LTD). I hope to have the video finished up later this week.
@@jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538 would you recommend buying this year with a bad starter clutch ?
@@marOcean13 I haven't run into that issue on my GS so I'm not sure how difficult it is to fix or what the parts availability is. You may want to get an estimate from a local shop or do some research before buying it.
