I visited Male and Thulusdhoo islands 5 years ago and was shocked by the amount of plastic trash everywhere. On Thulusdhoo at first it seemed to be a bit better, but then I found a big area in the middle of the island covered by trees where there was huge amount of trash constantly burning and one guy was watching that the fire doesn't spread anywhere. If I remember correctly, all the tourists were charged 5$/day green tax to be used to deal with trash in Maldives, but I wasn't thinking that it meant burning it in the middle of the islands.. 🤨😐

Yeah the garbage and lack of waste management wasn't too much of a surprise for me. In Galapagos when you go a few blocks in from the tourist areas you start to find trash. They seem to be putting in effort with garbage in recycling though.
This is wonderful life-telling and production. Do you use external mic on GoPro or is that native audio? You shooting on auto or neutral and color-grading?
Heyhey. Gald to hear that you enjoyed the video! To answer the question then the voice over I do with external mic, on gopro I use the media pack while filming and I usually do not Color grade the clips with the expetion of some extremely dark clips and a few drone shots. 😊 Since we publish once a week and do it all while traveling there is just not enough time to go too crazy on the post production 😁

@@WildVikingTravels no problem dear, I know you didn't like India much, but believe me, you would have loved it more as it was 30 years ago. Don't respect idiotic local customs. You should not participate in them at all. 00:00 🏝 The Maldives, a sought-after holiday destination known for its white sand beaches and water villas, has more to offer beyond what is seen on social media. 02:05 🛩 The Maldives comprises approximately 1,200 islands grouped into 26 atolls, formed from eroded volcanic land, creating paradisiacal islands. 03:30 🚌 Arriving in the Maldives is straightforward, with visa-on-arrival and easy access to local transportation options like buses. 06:07 🚶♀ Exploring Hulhumale reveals surprises like organized traffic and cleaner streets, offering a calmer atmosphere compared to previous destinations. 09:02 🌊 Hulhumale's construction showcases efforts to combat rising sea levels, reclaiming land to accommodate a growing population. 10:44 👙 Swimming in bikinis is prohibited in certain areas due to Islamic customs, reflecting the country's deeply ingrained religious practices. 11:16 🐈 Stray cats populate the streets due to cultural norms, similar to restrictions on swimming attire. 13:32 🕌 The Maldives' Islamic culture influences various aspects of life, including the ban on alcohol and dogs, contributing to low crime rates and strong community bonds. 14:48 🚪 Exploring Male reveals a bustling capital city with high-rise buildings, contrasting the serene island imagery often associated with the Maldives. 16:14 🛍 Local markets offer a glimpse into Maldivian culture, showcasing traditional foods and customs. 17:36 🏝 Venturing to local islands like Huraa provides insight into Maldivian life, with sandy paths and smaller homes creating a cozy atmosphere. 19:46 🎉 Eid al Adha celebrations highlight the blend of Islamic tradition and island lifestyle, with beach parties and festivities.
Thanks, love your content. Maldives is on my list for december. I didnt realise how varied the islands are. I hope they dont allow the streets to be rubbish dumps.
I sailed to the Maldives in 2002 and spent a month cruising through the island atolls. Whilst the setting was beautiful, the paranoid beaucracy of the Maldivian officials was rude, unfriendly, disgusting and expensive. Even all the hotel resorts would chase us away because apparently our yacht was ruining the view of their guests. Anyways, its an over rated destination and won't be going back there in my life time.
Wow! That sounds like hell of an experience! While here I have thought many times that I would have loved to see the country before 2009 when it officialy opened it borders to tourists (other than resorts) but now that I see your post I think it is good that I didn't see the country in such paranoid state. At the moment it really seems like the population is changing fast. Woman are working and divorce rates are high (which is highly unusual for a 100% Islamic country). But I have to say that the arrogance of the resort islands is still there. They don't want to see us anywhere near their island, yet the local island have a different vibe and people here seem quite welcoming and nice.
@@WildVikingTravelsnothing unusual...women are encouraged to work and be a nice and productive person and contribute to the society..also divorce is also not a tabboo...we have a complete prescribed guide as how to get divorce if either partner are not happy....
Heyhey. Yes, the water and the islands are truly beautiful here! Wow, I love Indonesia. I had a change to spend 2 months there about 6 years ago and can't wait to go back 😊👍
Let me explain why most of the local islands in Maldives does not have much people by that time of the year. It’s because most Islanders who wants better job opportunities and good education for their children, they move to male’ and Hulhumale’. One of the reason why it’s over populated. Meanwhile others look to go and live in resorts for employment. And when it’s the local holiday season and the school closes for holidays, these people come back to their birth islands to enjoy their home. And then again leaves back to the concrete jungle when the holiday ends.
The Wild Vikings’ are travellers, not tourists and it’s tourists who always say “Oh these people don’t live as I live”! They will enjoy learning about what the Maldives are all about. Tourists just want the nearest beach, the fewest clothes, a burger and a beer. Hence the comments here, particularly those condemning the chosen faith of the people. So small minded. Best not travel too far, you’ll get upset.
I really appreciate what u try to say about maldives. I came from another island from the world but more or less the truth is always the same in each conuntry. 5 stars hotel doesnt belong to the locals
As female I just cant relax in muslim countries. Cover my shoulders, knees, sometimes head if going to holy places. I have been in Turkey and Tunisia and tourists place you can be like you are normally, but if you go out from coast, its different story and people are more relious there. As excult member I´m allergy strict religous rules and when I´m on holiday I want to just relax and not fear that i break any relious rules. I wish to visit place like this, but then outside hotel areas I need to act differently. My friend is a gay and he has visitied many muslim countries as gay married couple to them its even more difficult, they cant be as they are, they need to say we are friends, not married couple. I dont think I would like to say and lie that my husband is my brother in their shoes. 😕
Yea, this is an option. The rate in the airport wasn't too bad, but in town you can probably find even better rates. And of course you can withdraw from the atms as well. On the capital island most of the things can be paid for with card as well, but on smaller islands cash is king.

Good content, addictive to watch. Thank you for showing a different side of the Maldives, a place I'd like to visit someday.
As a maldivian myself i am glad that u guys showed the unseen side of maldives, most of the people only see the luxury side of maldives😢
Nice video,u earned a new sub
The non tourist side looks amazing. You can go to resorts everywhere in the world but the local culture is everywhere unique:)
Maldives not safe for women and children ,avoid travelling mardives its very dangerous country
Yes most people will visit Lakshadweep (India) ✅✅
Instead of Maldives ❌ from now.
The only footage of the Maldives I’ve seen has been the high end resorts. This was refreshing and very insightful, nicely done!
You 2 are a cool couple traveling arround in those beautiful places.
Visited the Maldives back in the 80s, before it became ‘hip-n-trendy’, unspoiled by mass tourism.
Yes, please visit the unseen and clean Lakshadweep ✅✅
Tourism began in 1972 with the start of Kurumba! Italians were the ones to discover it as a tourism destination.
Guys, u mentioned this was the rainy season, what month did you visit?
12:50 Actually the Opera House bit did make me laugh😂- Vikings, whether wild or not, and we Brits have a very similar sense of humour I think. Thanks for a great video, a refreshing change from all the other identikit videos of the Maldives out there...
Great video, really like your production style
as a maldivian i really enjoyed this video
I just discovered your channel, and already absolutely LOVE your content. THANK YOU!
Maldives not safe for women and children ,avoid travelling mardives its very dangerous country
Just recently found your channel due to the YT Algorithm, I am already binge watching
Heyhey!
Ohh so glad to hear that you are enjoying the videos 😁👍.
Which country has been your favorite to watch 🤔😀?
Since we publish once a week and do it all while traveling there is just not enough time to go too crazy on the post production 😁
@@WildVikingTravels wow then super impressive!

That ending shot with sharks (i guess?) was amazing, wow. Thank you for the great content guys, much love from Türkiye :)
Heyhey 😊👍.
Yes, it was with sharks 😅🦈.
It was quite a scary thing to do but we will show more of it in the next video!
Ohh and we send all our best to you in Türkiye! We can't wait to visit it again (probably will be there for a week in the end of the month 😊🤔
It's good to see you again guys❤❤
Indonesia and Malaysia cured me of State-backed pseudo-Islamist Spiritual warfare. Your videos are top quality. Those islands were formed a few thousand years ago at most. You would really enjoy watching archaix, to learn true history and such. Like the "great wall of China" being, in fact, the great silk road of Rome. Let us know if you do a Laos tour, we'll be happy to meet up with you in Luang Phabang! What are your birthdays? I'll do a quick reading for you guys. Gratefully 🙏
I like your outlook on life. Hope to see other videos. I was shocked by the drone shot at the end. Floating with sharks!! I live in a van 2 mounths a year.
If you lived there which would you do? A. Live in the city for the excitement and visit the beach for serenity. B. Live at the beach for serenity and visit the city for excitement.
what a lovely down too earth view of things -- thought i would take a quick peek and yep was well and truely hooked subbed and await more thank you both and stay safe💕💕👌👌
Could you please inform me which country has the most beautiful sunset?
In a time where everybody seems to be bashing on Muslims, it’s very nice to hear some positive stuff 🤙 great video my wife and I visited the Maldives during peak covid so we weren’t allowed to leave the resort, we knew it was a highly Muslim country but didn’t know about the ban on dogs or bikinis
thank you for this video. you saved me a ton of money
Just in front of the Maldives you will find the Indian coast for example Malpe and Udupi, which are just as beautiful and less stressful.
Thank you for the recommendation
@@WildVikingTravels no problem dear, I know you didn't like India much, but believe me, you would have loved it more as it was 30 years ago. I was in Malpe 30 years ago in a very solitary hut on the beach between the ocean and a coconut grove. Epic 15 days.
However, if you wanted to go with your van, you should have reached the place around 2 am at night, to be less noticeable by the locals. 😀
I don't think those times will return.

@Akemi_yoshijima which would be the 3 best island to visit in Maldives and will it be raining in August? we have plans to travel in the first week of August.

definitely 👍🏻
I'm happy this was in my recommendations... great and informative. And much easier like this then actually go and travel myself and spare the disappointment (and money)!! Now, where can i get my own wild viking for some fun 😊
India is A Hell of earth 😂 Good for you
Its good that they set aside a few islands for resorts.
Non-Muslim visitors need protection from the local population.
If resorts were not separated from the locals, nobody would go there.
Why do they need protection?
Where did you get your clothes on this trip. It looks perfect for hot weather. Airy, loose, and breathable. Love it.
Actually, the Malé Opera House thing was pretty funny

Don't respect idiotic local customs. You should not participate in them at all. Maldives has one of the most corrupt governments in the world and they are kissing the ass of Saudi Arabia and the other Radical Islamic Gulf countries by enforcing these fanatical laws. Don't participate or believe that it's acceptable.

You had me considering a move. Then you killed the fantasy with the sharks. I can’t do sharks.
Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed your trip too.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks, love your content. Maldives is on my list for december. I didnt realise how varied the islands are. I hope they dont allow the streets to be rubbish dumps.
sir i want to ask, in maldives any rent a drone?
Great show! Keep them coming. Just can’t understand why you went to India in the first place.
Beautiful clear blue water island hi from Indonesia ❤

So true, many people don't know about this
I SUBSCRIBED , THANKS A LOT FOR SHARING
I was amazed that u stop talking on the video the moment Azan was called upon. Much respect to you!
Best not travel too far, you’ll get upset.
its not like you totally cannot wear bikini totally ...
go to the private resort and go all out ...
they will respect the privacy of each resort ...
It would have been nice to see something about the food, which I believe is very tasty, with lots of fish and seafood, mixed with Indian cuisine
I can’t imagine the shock of going from living in your van to staying in a hotel. The Maldives look gorgeous. “The Terminator” voice🤣🤣🤣
It took me so long to see your video..😂 however it is nice videos
I really appreciate what u try to say about maldives. I came from another island from the world but more or less the truth is always the same in each conuntry. 5 stars hotel doesnt belong to the locals

I would definitely avoid any country under the thumbs of restrictive religions and tyrannical rulers.
That’s pretty much large parts of America then.

@@tiiatuuli339Good. The fact that you can't relax in Muslim countries shows that you are incapable of accepting the truth and disciplining yourself.
Did you exchange some euros in the airport?
Yea, this is an option.
The rate in the airport wasn't too bad, but in town you can probably find even better rates.
And of course you can withdraw from the atms as well.
On the capital island most of the things can be paid for with card as well, but on smaller islands cash is king.
