What a truly amazing chess teacher. I never know how to handle the French defense and this will be fun to try! The pace and clarity of your videos is unmatched. Thank you Igor Smirnov!
Happy Birthday, Igor. You've brought me so far in chess. From a beginner to 1600 in under a year. I use your system of the Bishop's Opening and it's absolutely devastating.
A serious student of chess embraces lesson # 1 - Develop, develop, develop! If one is playing like black at the 1:30 mark & the 1:44 mark (moving a piece twice BEFORE you develop all your pieces) then Yes, you deserve to lose. While some of us may have started out playing like black, hopefully understanding the importance of Development we’ve moved past moving pieces just for the sake of moving them. 😉 For example at 0:59 white playing the Exchange Variation allows Black to get his normally weak light square Bishop into the game. E6 gets the Bishop developed & defends the center! 👍
In the 8...dc, 9...Bg4 line, black might be able to escape via 10...Qe7; 11. Ne5 Bh5. Instead of Bg4, the book line there is 9...Be6; 10. Bxe6 Rxe6; 11. 0-0. Normunds Miezis is the top protagonist of this at the GM level so be sure to study his games if you want to take it up. Black is not really in any danger if they play correctly with a more or less standard distribution of wins vs losses.
Thanks, for as many years as I've beenn beating opponents with a later c4 (or c5 for Black) in the Exchange french, I never considered earlier tactical possibilities with an immediate c4.
Hi could you please cover the petroff defence damianos variation from whites perspective as I can't find an in depth guide on this and it would be so helpful. Thank you!
Thanks. Very good trap, and pretty likely to happen - since the moves to go there are very natural for both sides. It also worth mentioning that black is also in trouble after 9...Rxe3!? 10.fxe3 Nxe3 (with a fork) 11.Bxh7+ with Qd3 next. Also after the simplification 9...Bxc3 10.bxc3 dxc4 11.Bxc4 (Bxh7+ will not be an option later) and only now - 11...Rxe3 12.fxe3 Nxe3 (huge fork...) 13.Bxf7+! Kxf7 14.Qd3!?! (not the only winning move) Nxf1 15.Rxf1 - black can't defend his position, for example 15...Kg8 16.Ng5! is a killer.
Happy Birthday! another great content & tactical options to fight the boring French. Keep on uploading those secret weapon of yours. but where's your cat? :)
Love this channel! Thanks Igor! If I can just sum up the videos: If your opponent does this, you just do this and you're completely winning. If your opponent decides not to do this, you'll simply do that and you'll checkmate in a few moves. 🤣🤣
35, happy birthday! 35 is nothing, im askimg myself how you managed to gather so much chess- knowledge - you are either a genius or must have good sources yourself!
Nice to know about these threats, but I'm mostly interested in avoiding traps. So maybe a few more lines of what are decent moves? Maybe there are even lines that are so good they are the reason a variation is often avoided? Can you sort most played moves on groups of players, like above and below a certain elo? Or three groups, like weaker (1600?) and then compare recommended engine moves? This way you can see the risk (small/large, drawish/disadvantage) vs the rewards in likelihood a losing move is played. Especially normal looking bad moves I'd like to know so I can avoid them myself!
GM Smirnov is a born chess teacher!...There are couches(like Andras for instance that harps on about (as far as i can tell ) "Calculation", yea calculation IS important but GM Smirnov teaches a whole "Chess System"...that is much more important to have a complete system! - that is obvious!(reasons!) Pity i can't afford any of GM Smirnov's Chess Courses, because i am only a state pensioner with barely money to survive on!)
The trap has no bait. The Kg4 move is only one of a number of options for black. It's not incongruous to their moves so maybe but not a drawn conclusion.

Not keen on the new background, bring back the cat!
Yes, it's not the same without the cat.
Agreed. And we could always tell how solid the line was by the cats body language.
Super GM Cat.
Yes
We want cat again
The cat ran away from boredom, man. Went out to do some pull-ups.

oh man its my favorite opening against the french, so glad you covered it!
This a much better video. Thank you. Now I know how to beat fresh defense.

This is gonna be very good trap. The fact that people don't play exchange variation can lead into this deadly trap
5:00 we can go queen to H4 but we gotta sacrfice the queen in order to not be checkmated
I have been winning more games since watching your videos. Appreciate the information!!
Me too!
really helpful thank you 🖤🖤
Happy Birthday Igor! Thank you for preparing this nice material. God bless you.
5:38 Computer shows Qb3 is losing for white -1.8?

Really good video 👊
3:20 the king can move to the center file to avoid the knight attack
On 5:02 Queen on h4 can stop?
Happy birthday and thank you for the videos!
Happy birthday Teacher Igor.
Happy birthday gm igor god bless.
Happy Birthday Mr. GM Igor Smirnov.
Amazing video as always! Belated Happy Birthday Igor! Love all your content. God bless!
Just won my first game using this, thanks 🙏🏽
Happy Birthday Igor ! Vey interesting video
Happy Birthday!!!! Great videos very instructive!!!! thank you!!!1
In spite of playing bg4 black can play ne4 then?
Happy birthday sir! 😀
Gonna need more videos like this one
Thanks! 😃
Thank you.
Just a heads-up: Kh8 is not forced after Qb3+. The best move is Be6 to block but it's just a free bishop. Either way, you're still winning.
After Black plays B-b4, why not Q-a4 ch, winning the Bishop?
Thank you for preparing nice videos.
Another treat to subscribers . Happy birthday
hi i bought ur course on how to reach 2000 elo and i have a tournament coming up soon it really helped prepare me 😁
Hey! Great to hear! Keep crushing it.
What if black takes directly on c4.?
Nice to know about these threats, but I'm mostly interested in avoiding traps. So maybe a few more lines of what are decent moves?

Strongest moves can easily be checked using an engine or anyb online master database
If Bxf3+ bxf3 Ne5 Bh5 what to do
Amazing trap!
Happy Birthday! Now where is the cat?! Bring back the old background
Amazing🎉❤
Happy birthday! Great analysis!

thanks ! Nice trap against French revealed.
Good video, HB by the way
The best Chess channel.
Excuse me Sir, 3:36 we will not be taking the queen. It’s smothered mate.
It’s not, Qxf7. It would be smothered if the queen were a rook
@@TheWargamer66 you are right, thanks for that
How are things in crimea?
brilliant
Beatiful
happy birthday!
Happy birthday sir
Saludos desde Venezuela
It is important to see whole board while playing chess
👏
The trap has no bait. The Kg4 move is only one of a number of options for black. It's not incongruous to their moves so maybe but not a drawn conclusion.
Happy Birthday Igor Sir
Thank you!
I think that way can work against caro kann too .. Happy birthday wishes . 🎂🎂🎂
It transposes into QG
Happy Birthday 🎊🎊🎊🎉🎉🎉🎂🎂🎂🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁
Added bonus - French players hate the exchange!
Happy🎂birthday🎂. Enjoy.
Immaculate
Happy birthday to you GM Igor Smirnov.
Last 10 move
Have a prosperous Birthday.
Be well.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Actually, taking the queen after the fork is not the best continuation, there's a mate in 3, sacrificing the queen and giving mate with the knight
At end of smothered mate sequence, Queen can take Knight on f7.
Im sure the gm missed that…
Well, it WAS secret up until now! 😂
You share a birthday with my mom I guess it'll be easy for me to remember for next year lol
