Mike, aside from lending the world your expertise when it comes to bike mechanics, the incredibly positive and hopeful attitude you convey in your videos is truly invaluable, especially during a time like this. Thank you so much for reminding me to be grateful and for continuing to put out good vibes. Don't stop. Very sorry for any losses you have suffered. At least we are all suffering together.
Mike....So sorry for your loss... the loss is made harder in these times, I think.....Thank you so much for continuing the videos....they are the only one I clicked the "notification " bell......thank you for the positivity......looking forward to seeing you and being..."out on the road"
I have always been amazed at the number of mechanically minded people who do not understand the difference between pressure and flow. You can have pressure at the oil pump and no flow. With hydraulic lifters you will know pretty quickly you don't have flow, but it's a good practice to check flow back to the tank on any motor not just knuckles. I like watching your videos because I know what weather is coming in a few days. Stay safe Mike.
That horn is something else! what a piece. Thanks for the info regarding adjusting the oil pressure as well.. I've always been slightly worried to mess with mine too much incase I don't get enough flow. So this has been super helpful!
Great info Mike. Flow vs Pressure....back in the early/mid 70s when I was doing my first build (46EL) the old timers I was getting parts and information from were adamant about flow....keep it moving. More flow/less pressure = better cooling, better lubricating, less leaking. I never forgot that (a couple of those guys were old radial aircraft mechanics. Same basic concept applied to V-Twins and radials). Love the brass project parts. Thanks Mike. Stay safe.
By bringing out the brass light and then the horn, I want to thank you for giving all us subscribers a little " sneak peak " into the project bikes future outcome. I especially love the fact that you've been holding on to them for so long & the fact that it was your Father's. What a great start you have on the " collecting of parts ". Also, I like to read all the comments below from everyone and just want to say you have lots of love out here for you and what you do.
That is a great tip on old Knuckleheads oil pressure, it's more important on the flow of the oil. That project bike looking so cool with that old brass light, horn.
I love the inspiration and passion you have for these older Harleys. There's nothing more satisfying than working on machinery you know from top to bottom. With newer engines you're more or less guessing, since the manufacturer don't want you to touch anything and tolerances are so small that problems are not necessarily visible..e.g. that the Knucklehead oil pressure is enough when you see some oil returning to the tank.
P.M. has to be one of my favorite people on YT. Keep doing what you do. Also, my deepest and most sincere condolences for your loss. Thank You & Ride Safe.
The brass headlamp will look very sharp. The ahooga horn is just plain awesome. I am going to guess you will get lots of looks when folks hear the horn. Hopefully it will put a smile on their face in these troubled times. We're both high risk as are many others. Stay Safe and keep the rubber side down.
As long as you polish your own knob i'ts all good..... loving the aaaayuga horn... as a teenager I had the pleasure and privelage to ride in a 1914 Model T so that horn story brought me right back there in Ballston Spa NY.
Mike, First, I just want to offer my condolences on the loss of a family member and/or friend whichever it may be. I am so glad that I found your site and I have subscribed and look forward to your next videos. I would love to have an old knucklehead as that is my favorite motor. God bless and stay safe.
My cousin made oil coolers by using old Chevy canister oil filter to put more oil in the system of Panheads back before oil coolers .were commercially sold. Besides Chevy oil canisters was cheaper to use anyway. My cousin Larry who will be 81 this year was the best Harley/Indian mechanic I every knew and a master machinist and welder and rebuild air planes too. You are a lot like Larry when it comes to simple instructions even I can follow.
You have my condolences Mike. I'm so terribly sorry to hear that. I hope all is well outside of that taking place. Looking forward to seeing the motor for the new bike! That horn and light are both just flat out cool! Im pumped to see this thing.
Always enjoy your videos Mike, what's not to like, old Harleys! They have been my passion for 45 years too. I really enjoy your attention to detail and how clean your jobs are, a man after my own heart. Soooo I'm going to put my opinion out there when it comes to the motor on the project bike since it hasn't been reveled yet. I think you should get a board and have everyone take a guess on what it will be and put a tally on the board for each person that emails you a guess up until the unveiling. So I'll get it started and say Flathead, hoping it's a big one, 80ci. I'm thinking you have a pan, knuck and a shovel already so I'm guessing big flattie. Looking forward to watching it all come together. Be safe. LLH&R
Really appreciate you,I remember my uncle showing me the ins and outs on his knuckle, while coaching me on my shovel build, man I was 17 and couldn't wait to get her finished, sorry for your losses, and wish you well. That being said my son and I are going into the garage to put the back tire back on his wideglide, the yes we're headed out to the national Forest for a Saturday ride, Ride hard ,ride safe,be well bro
God bless you Mike, these videos have been such fun to watch and learn from. I am sorry for the loss of your friends. We are in strange times and it seems like things are going to be different going forward; that being the impetus for my recent retirement . I can't wait to start on my 1966 Triumph TR6SR bobber project, a basket that's been languishing in my garage since I got it in 1990. A couple of parts were collected along the way, and now I have the time to dig into it. And I am going to lace up my own rear 16"wheel, after watching your recent video on that. Thanks again for your vids, they have been a wonderful distraction from all of this madness and sadness.
Mike, so sorry for your losses. The best way I know to honor the ones we lost is to live a good righteous life. Love your outlook. Keep it up and please be safe.
You are correct Mike active duty Navy here that is definitely a deck light, and I’m glad you like brass the Navy has definitely put a damper on that for me lol
Dang Mike you have my 60 year old butt sitting up until 2 or 3 in the morning. Watching your videos and I do not even own a Bike anymore. Great Job. keep the videos coming. Thanks.
ohh man, thats a beautifull headlight.. I want one too. So good you talking about the oil presure, that you only need the oil going back to tank, and that high presure can make it to leak. Thanks for a realy good Harley machanic channel.
I had a lot of problem about puking oil from the crankcase (Shovelhead) vent.I listening to Mike and take one step backwards...And now it looks like there is only a small amout of oil under my bike. And yes.....there is anough oil in the oiltank :-)
Hello from the UK... my condolences for your losses there, very surreal times for us all all over the world to be living the same life at this moment in time, it grounds us and makes us closer I feel. Anyway thanks for another enjoyable watch, I’m new to the channel and find this very interesting and also relaxing to watch and joining just as you are starting collecting parts for the project bike I’m very interested now to stay and watch as you progress from the very start. Stay safe there and thanks again to you Mike 👍🏽
Holly sh#t, what an incredible parts you showed us again! Thanks also for your peaceful comments, it's a real pleasure. Have a nice day Mike, cheers from France
dang im glad i watched this. dont have a knuckle anymore but, used to have a 47 and occasionally the front head would puke all over the front exhaust pipe. i would take rocker covers off and try to reseal them . it was frustrating. i wish i would have seen this then and i wish i still had the bike of course. running a 38 UL now and she is a sweetheart but i miss my knuckle
just founded the channel today! Mike you are a master person and expertise ! ,I bought my first Harley last week(heritage softail classic 1997 carburetor ) ,just subscribed sorry for your losses, unluckely I know what is it ,being on the same situation ,thanks for the great material you are doing here greetings Dard
Hey Mike, I was very sorry to hear about you losing four people close to you. You are definitely in my thoughts. On a lighter note, I have a unity spotlight on my flathead. They are so great, mines from an old mercury though. Best regards Travis.
Nice video Mike, that is a great looking headlight choice, it will really polish up Super. That horn needs a good dose of TLC, but is really funky, and you got that history story with it. Stay healthy, and cheers Mike!
Yah. Thank You. The horn, besides it's many years of history with my dad and I, is over 100 years old. I'll refine it a little, but not much. It is what it is.
Great video as usual, sorry for your losses. Maybe the problem will be solved soon. I have that same manual, and the 48 to 57 ridged frame Panhead manual. People ask me all the time why the oil pressure is so low, and I tell them the same thing you just did. That reaffirms it. Stay safe and healthy, it took us old guys a lifetime to reach our age, and the best is yet to come my friend.
go Mike go! I have a couple of same headlights, you asked so here it is, mine all came off a fire truck the rear step as it's called. and your right their spotters, 24volts. I would mount them on bikes I would build in the '70s-'80s. pans and shovels. but I always took them off the wide glide forks before I sold it. and stuck on a bates or whatever I had around. also, they were chrome, not brass. the fire trucks were LaFrance and macks.it could of very well came from a naval ship, as they, the military, were prone to use brass, not chrome. can't wait to see your project bike. stay safe, as you said us old guys are at risk.
Very informative video Mike. Glad you’re doing well. Stay safe and healthy. Looking forward to the unveiling of the engine for the build! The parts look great
I love my Unity spotlight. Been running it on my long wide-glide since "69". It came off a calif. Highway Patrol car. No idea how that happened. Enjoy. My condolences to the folks that have lost someone in this sad time. Chin up. Carry on.
It's lovely to know there is someone out there who has the same interests as me. Your videos inspire me to maintain my Harley even better... Cheers. .. While back I commented on, " learn to ride and stop complaining about motorcycle noise" !! I'm so sorry,. that comment was not addressed at you, it was to a person who was complaining , calling motorcycles noisy contraptions , and my reply was pointed at him , I hope this clears the misunderstanding.
Absolutely. Sometimes, I write things that don't come out right. You and I have no problem. Glad to hear from you. And that other guy? Probably needed to vent on someone. So, let's wish him a good day too. Isn't it great when a harley with straight pipes goes by, and the children smile from ear to ear? That's what the kids on my street do. That guy would be run out of town where I live. Ain't life grand?
@@pacificmike9501 It's comforting to know that we are still on good term . No matter how hard we try to do nice things, there are always those who would want to complain about it !! Strange ?? yes running them outa town would be sweet. ahahah.. Yes straight through pipes on harley makes a unique sound that is not unpleasant . Your evolution engine Vid is WOW. With thanks.
Thanks for the videos Mike. They really put me in a very happy place and always looking forward for the next one to come out. Sorry to hear about your losses , it's a hard time for all of us now. Trully love the knuckle btw,. I had a giggle you had your pump adjusted since yesterday I replaced a very strong(aftermarket) spring on my shovelheads pump that was flooding the top end. Greetings from greece. Stay safe
My Panhead service lists oil pressure as 35psi at 30mph and above. On early morning startup, mine will idle at 35 running the original '52 pump and 20-50 synth. I have re-timed the breather gear to get a better case vacuum and also added a one-way valve on the end of the outlet tube to assist the somewhat leaky breather valve. Altogether a near perfect oil tight motor except for the small drain hole under the generator.
Pacific Mike I make trips on my ole shovel out to Sacramento to see my brother and to Reno to visit a friend during the summer till the Covid-19 issue came up. When it is over and can travel I would like to come see you to at least shake your hand and tell you that your doing a bang up job on your RUclips videos. When I work on someone's bike and they want to learn how, I just talk them through it and when you see them realize it wasn't as hard as they thought. Seeing them smile is worth all the time it took.
Such good info mike, a bike I have with roller crank, they run 7 PS I pressure, and when you add a cooler, you change the oil pump drive gear ratio, which increases flow not pressure, to compensate for the added cooler in line
Thank you for the videos it brings back memory’s of my first shovel head 😢 bought it got it home rode it once and tore it down and rebuilt it GOD I miss that bike. But life got in the way kids and stuff saddest day at the time when I watch a guy ride off with it broke my heart. Bin trying to get up the courage to ask the wife if I can build one again. Keep riding 😎
Mike sorry to hear about your friends. This video may have been a simple matter to address but there are many people like me who know nothing about old harleys or knuckle head engines. Keep posting and stay well.
Hey Mike, Just wanted to say Thanks made me smile, Laugh! Just remember they may be gone, but as long as WE Keep Them in our Heart! They Our NEVER FORGOTTEN!! God Bless Brother!! Thanks, James
Great videos sir, stay safe and wish you all the best. I like the way you educate those who wants both, to watch and most important to listen your advices. Keep it up with these great videos.
Hi Mike Your videos are always so polite high tactics and full of love to followers and your deals. Im watching with pleasure also I do not have any bike or related business except WMP. Thank U & take care. Will see )
Loved seeing this bike I haven’t seen it yet and looks great, (I love that springer front end) and it was great to see another video from u mike it made my day.
Thanks for the video Mike! Sorry to hear about you lost some people dear to you. The project bike parts are adding up to a serious bike! I built a 1950 Panther chopper many years ago and used a lot of brass. I used nickle plating, I thought it complimented it rather than chrome... but what do i know! haha Take care out there! Al
Hey Mike, Thanks so much for your videos. I really enjoy them. You have a very casual, sincere approach to explaining things. You show interesting things. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I would like to hang out in your garage and turn some wrenches with ya. Keep up the good work. Cheers! Ken Kondell Glendale, AZ
Cool Knucklehead Mike. Wow. Nice light. You always get the cool stuff. Dont know if you plan on going to Sturgis but hoping to meet you somewhere, someday. Later...
Great Video Mike. Hope to own a beautiful knuck like this one day, for now it's Sportster choppers 😁. Really enjoying the parts for the parts bike at the end of every video. Thank you for making these!
Stay home stay safe bud and get the knob polished to a mirrored shine. Really enjoy your videos they honestly relax me after these long crazy days we have now. Thanks for a good laugh and happy polishing. 😂👍

If only there was a way to get guys like you to the top of Harley Davidson so they start building old school bikes again. Awesome video as always. If you ever go to Europe on a bike trip, let the subscribers know. I bet a lot would like to meet for a group ride 😁
That would be cool! I'd love to meet you guys. We all do the same stuff in a little different way. If, I could afford it, scratch that. When I can afford it, it will happen.

Great info Mike. Flow vs Pressure....back in the early/mid 70s when I was doing my first build (46EL) the old timers I was getting parts and information from were adamant about flow....keep it moving.
Couldn't agree more!

That horn is a really cool piece
Thank You. It's over 100 years old.
Sorry for the loss of friends....thanks for the videos. Finishing another EVO toy....i do the same with oil cap....thanks again 👍👍👍
Thank You.
So sorry for your loss Mike
Thank You. None of us are alone in this one.
Cool.
Love your passion for these bikes and parts.
I appreciate that!
thanks for sharing !! sorry to hear about friends or family you have lost !! your in our prays back here in pa !!!!
Thank You. I wish everyone a better time. I believe it will be.
Come on Mike just say it " I like to ride fast". It's OK, so do I.
Didn't think I needed permission. But, thanks.
Absolutely love your videos Mike! Keep’em coming!
Thanks! Will do!
Hello Mike another Beautiful bike glad to see your Okay be careful my friend Top priority is Keep yourself safe my friend regards Alan from the UK
Thank You and you too.
Such good info mike, a bike I have with roller crank, they run 7 PS I pressure, and when you add a cooler, you change the oil pump drive gear ratio, which increases flow not pressure, to compensate for the added cooler in line
Very interesting. What's the bike?
Suzuki gs1000 78

Thanks for the video Mike! Sorry to hear about you lost some people dear to you. The project bike parts are adding up to a serious bike! I built a 1950 Panther chopper many years ago and used a lot of brass. I used nickle plating, I thought it complimented it rather than chrome... but what do i know! haha Take care out there! Al
Yep. I love nickel plating. It's softer appearing than chrome.
