It's not programmed to understand that its opponent is the dumbest piece of garbage in the universe, it's programmed to play solid positional chess with maximum tactical insight and such chess will lead to draws very often. If it had found a forced repetition before the final move that was mate in 1, it 100% would've taken it.

The benefit to being a human is being able to observe your opponent’s weaknesses. Martin is basically incapable of capturing pieces unless it’s like check or mate in 1, but stockfish doesn’t know that so it left its queen trapped in the corner even though as a human we know if we just took the pawn on the h file or smth there’s a pretty good chance Martin lets it go

And I was trying to show how to set up an "okay" start, and Martin ended up checkmating me with his queen after only 8 moves by me. I have never felt so attacked. I'm only an 600 ELO so I might have missed a crucial point somewhere.
