    I've had my jlw6v2 in 3 different vehicles over the last 10 plus years. Still pounding. I think the quality of the speaker has made it last this long. Paid 500 for one when new.

      @@Prince-sq8yl I found one on Craigslist, dude got a DUI and needed cash fast, he sold me a 12w6V2 with a custom-made ported box, built to specs, for $200.

      They are good quality no argument there but as far as durability any decent sub that's not abused should last. I had a Polk db12 I paid $60 on sonic electronics it lasted forever over 10 years of daily use. But it was on 250w vs its 350w rating. It only met it's maker from it being grossly overpowered by my son on a 1200w amp being used as a temporary sub. But then again it's back up n running again with a custom re cone that cost $30ish in parts but now has a 4 layer coil and paper pulp cone vs poly. Way lower FS now.

      W7 are supposed to be better because they can handle for RMS watts. But the W6's are just as good. The W6 is expensive but W7 are more expensive. Can't go wrong with a W6 though.

      Best for what?
      Have you ever heard what a Dynaudio Esotar 1200 can do SQ wise? Do you also realize there's a bunch of pro audio drivers from Precision Devices and B&C that will outperform any JL in both SQ and SPL? Have you heard what the new Focal K2 E 30 KX can do in terms of both low end extension and power? Trust me, the hey-day of JL is long gone. Unless they get the sound quality of those W7 drivers up tonpar, and quit building rubbish amps, they are not very interesting. No matter the task at hand, another brand has something that betters it.
      All that being said, there's one JL driver that is of some value. And that is in fact the 10W6-v3.

      Depending on what you plan on doing with your system, I would either get the Gladen SQL 12 or SQL Exstreme, 12 or depending on a few things in your setup, the Stereo Integrity HST subs might work very well.
      At what point do you plan to cross your sub and lf drivers? What's the maximum size you have available for sub box per driver in ft*3? If you are planning to do a ported box with the JL 12w6 and if you can keep the crossover point below 95-100 hz, there's not much that can touch the Stereo Integrity HST-15MKIII in a sealed box. It needs a total of 1.7 ft*3 if you add about 2-2.25 lbs. of polyfil damping. That's 1.7 including the driver. Once you add the port and driver to the JL ported box, the JL box will be larger than the HST-15 box.
      If you have less space and plan to run the JL in a sealed box, the HST-12MKII Is a good choice.
      If you have the 1.7 ft*3 available and don't cross over too high, don't let the fact that I suggest a 15 inch scare you. It is a driver with VERY good definition, it has a high sensitivity, and it reaches so far into the basement that it will satisfy most - it has an Fs that is over 10 hz lower than the JL. It was made to do well defined lows in a sealed box. I run a pair of their 18's as pure subs crossed at 50 hz. They can go way below what is needed and they stay clear and tight.
      The only caveat with the HST drivers is that they don't like a too high crossover point. If your system can run with a crossover point below 100, it's not a problem. In the case that your system needs to be crossed in the 110-120 hz region, the Gladen usually works better. Note that your crossovers needs to be 24db L-R filters.

      @@AB-80X Thank you for your response. I will admit, you've kind of overwhelmed me with information. The torrent is an Suv, so it has space. I was thinking of actually putting 2 fifteens in the back. I always liked ported boxes but for this setup I'm not willing to give up all my cargo space but I'm willing to sacrifice a good chunk of it. $3500.00 is about what I'm willing to spend. I just want to be blown away with quality and i still want to be able to feel it kick me in the chest.. Hard. I would kind of like to keep my electrical system somewhat simple. I'm going to do the big 3 and go with the best alternator that will fit my setup and get a high output battery.

      People that buy these aren't looking for a "way more stout sub", they want a high quality sub that produces incredibly clean bass and will last many years when ran properly... this isn't in any way an SPL sub, Quality is their first priority.

    • @95Sn95
      @95Sn95 3 года назад +2

      @@2869may I'm not referring to a 100lb bass monster but there are plenty of subs that produce excellent sound with a good build quality that are priced hundreds lower. Take the sundown SA v1 or v2 they are regarded as having excellent SQ and even with sundown's higher than average pricing is way less. Just one example Is JLs plastic formers a high end feature? Think not no one uses plastic for there formers for good reason... Also JL makes so many proprietary parts you can't rebuild them as is with out there overpriced parts if you can even buy them so it's toss it in the junk pile buy another overpriced product or replace frames ect. And then rebuild it. Hey if dropping another 700 to $1000 isn't an issue go for it but not me I don't wanna throw money away.

(12 yrs old) Which shows you won't need to rebuild them if you treat them right.... But I agree with you about the price, it is a bit unreasonable but as long as people are willing to pay it and keep them in business they're not coming down.... same thing with shoes and Oakley sunglasses and so many other products.... A lot pf people are ego driven to pay those prices, just to able flaunt those products.

      I was looking at Sundown SA 10" myself. I have the 10w6V2 , and the sub magnet is almost right up agaisnt the back of my sealed enclosure, and I think this makes a sound difference. Sadly the Sundown is the same exact mount depth of 6.9" so since I have only 7.25" and the minimal is .5" with already some effects, I want to find a bit more shallow sub for my special sealed enclosure.
