HARLEY DAVIDSON WIND SHIELD THREAD INSERT INSTALLATION - DIY SOLUTION - LESS THAT $2.00
In this video, I replace a stripped out threaded insert on my Harley Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic. The insert has stripped some how from the plastic inner fairing and will not secure the wind shield any longer. I purchased the replacement insert from the Harley Davidson dealer (H-D Threaded Insert part# 16585-96). The insert was under $2.00 and its considered and OEM replacement. Follow along this is definitely a DIY repair and there is no need to purchase an expensive kit to make the repair.
The tools I used in this video are.
Slot tipped screw driver - To remove the single slotted screw(yours may be diffent)
7/16 Wrench - To remove socket head cap screw
T27 Torx bit - To remove all other screws securing the wind shield screws
5/32 Allen wrench - To remove wind shield screws
3/16 Allen wrench - To install new wind shield insert
3/16 Drill bit - To remove puddled up plastic from inside the insert.
