Pat Metheny & Antonio Carlos Jobim - How Insnsitive (Bm)
    • Pat Metheny & Antonio ...
    Lyrics:
    How insensitive
    I must have seemed
When he told me that he loved me
    How unmoved and cold
    I must have seemed
When he told me so sincerely
    Why he must have asked
Did I just turn and stare in icy silence
    What was I to say
    What can you say
When a love affair is over
    Now he's gone away
    And I'm alone
With a memory of his last look
    Vague and drawn and sad
    I see it still
All his heartbreak in his last look
    Why, he must have asked
Could I just turn and stare in icy silence
    What was I to do
    What can one do
When a love affair is over

Do you sing when you play?

Actually I do, about half of the time. I shouldn't 🙄, I know, but sometimes I can't help it. My singer friends usually laugh when they hear me... have a nice week 😊.

I don't recall doing that. I'm normally thinking/feeling melodies rather than vocalising them, except if it's a song to sing a long to ofcourse.

To me, the lyrics are not exactly sad - at least in the original 1963 version in Portuguese - but they lead to think of someone discussing with their own heart about breaking someone else's heart. The song says that there is no love for one who does not love anyone else and that there is a reason for asking for forgiveness. Need to check the English version, though. Anyways, thank you very much for the beautiful rendition of this jewel of Bossa Nova. Subscribed!

Thanks Rotem for all the content!! It's super helpful to have insight into how more advanced players digest music in general. You are a tremendous player and educator. Keep the videos coming, we will continue watching!

I`m used to play Insensates in A minor. The only way for man´s voice to go with the song. But Rotem, as always - exquisite play. Love listening and learning.

The secret to Rotem's tone? Leather! :D Also, it's funny that Metheny and Jobim chose B minor for the Carnegie Hall performance. We all know that D minor is the saddest of all keys.

What's it called, Nigel? (Just to prove I get the reference, and don't want to post something possibly problematic to the easily offended).

Hey Rotem, I love your channel. Thanks for all the content. I just had an idea for you. You probably know that a lot of people really want to get your tone. Me too. But I don't really want to mess with my guitar too much and I've heard that the Fishman Play can be really tricky to install. If you could work with a company to make a pedal that gets your tone maybe with a stereo output or something like you have, I think it would sell really well. I'd buy it for my jazz stuff for sure.

That's sad man... beautiful but sad. I'd like to learn it, not only to improve my playing but also because your arrangement has such a musical quality that I hope will make me understand how to become a better musician. Thank you very much 😊🙏.

Love the Astrud Gilberto version for vocals. Normally when Rotem does two or three 'levels' of a tune, I prefer the later levels, but this time I think the first level outlines the tune better - at least to my ears. All great stuff though either way.
