Taste is arguably the most personal thing and if for him it isn’t too sweet but for them it is, that’s how they like their cakes and that’s how he likes his cakes.
Cake is meant for other people to eat therefore you have to make it to where they like it not you and him disagreeing is dumb is because he knew it was meant for a professional chef
Sure, if you’re a home cook. However Master Chef is supposed to prepare the contestants for performing like world class chefs who need to stick to certain standards for each recipe. The cake he was making isn’t supposed to be too sweet, which is why it’s a really bad sign when Gordon said that it was sticking to the roof of his mouth. It’s fine if he likes his cakes sweet, but unless he has some issue detecting sweetness, he should be able to tell how sweet the cake is and whether it’s the correct amount or not. Like, it would be fine if he was just cooking at home, but he isn’t. The food industry, specifically the professional food industry, is extremely competitive. If he can’t take it he probably should find something else to do, and this is something most people that have studied to become a chef or that have risen through the ranks of a classic kitchen brigade will tell you.
The problem is.... He's cooking for Ramsay and Joe etc. he's not cooking for himself, he needs to adjust his tastebuds to there's which can be difficult when you have to taste on the go. He's entirely not wrong at all, I like my bland foods solely different to someone who needs flavour on flavour.

There is some subjectivity in cuisine ofc, but this does not mean that there is no objectivity at all. If you cook pasta and you do not put enough salt in the water you cannot claim "I like it with less salt", as there is an expectation for a certain level of salt in pasta and sugar in cake. You can do a bit more or a bit less, and outside the accepted range it is just a mistake. To answer "everyone has a different palate" means that you do not know how cooking works.
@@bobon123 I agree with you about the absolute nature of neglecting to put salt ^at all^, but once you put some salt in, the quantity of salt becomes a relative matter, subjective and dependent on personal preferences. With pasta water, I've never seen any recipe indicating how much salt to use, and while it is true that some quantities would be ridiculous (like a cup of salt), some people really do like their food with more salt. I bet chef Ramsey was being over dramatic for the sake of the cameras, and the fact that the guy tasted it and still thought it tasted good shows that it was within the reasonable range of personal preferences. Chef Alvin: Dont argue with me. I'm smart. Do you know who I am?
Be humble😂😂😂😂😂
Respect to this guy man. Gordon's taste buds don't dictate the whole world. If he likes it he likes it and the chefs gotta respect that.
That's it.
"Oh, it's way too sweet" Well, maybe it is that I like the cakes too sweet, the good too salty, the fruits too sour...
Too bad he didn't join to impress himself. He had to impress the judges, and boy he barely did that.
I love how they framed it to make it look like he was a complete idiot, but he was actually super respectful and said nothing inherently negative towards Gordon.
I'm sure had there not been a camera on Gordon, he would have laughed and just moved on

You can do a bit more or a bit less, and outside the accepted range it is just a mistake.
To answer "everyone has a different palate" means that you do not know how cooking works.
