fun, splashy abstract watercolor butterfly

  • This is a loose, abstract watercolor butterfly that is really fun to paint! You can use any medium brush of your choice and 3 main colors- a base color for the butterfly wings, a contrasting color for the veins, and a complimentary bright color to splatter, usually a warm color. I also use a white gouache to splatter around at the end, which creates a delicate atmosphere to the wings. Have fun! Tag me @bloomfeatherstudio on Instagram. I would love to see what you come up with!
    Colors I used:
    quinacridone purple from Daniel Smith
    lemon yellow from Winsor Newton
    horizon blue from Holbein
    hooker's green to mix with the purple which makes a dark gray for the body of the butterfly, but you can use payne's gray or black if you would like.

    You do not know how many simple watercolor "tutorials" I've watched where all they do is show you them painting their picture and don't tell you a single blessed thing about what paints and materials they are using OR WHAT THE FREAKING HECK THEY ARE DOING! Anyway (moving on from my passionate views about simple watercolor RUclips tutorials), the point is I love how you walk us through every single step, unlike a lot art channels' simple tutorials that I've watched. Very helpful and gorgeous. I'm going to stop typing before I become THAT person in the comment section.
    heck, I probably already have

      @@bloomfeatherstudio1003 I'm so glad I found this channel. I mostly do simple landscapes (very very simple), because I only started watercolors about a year ago, and I'm teaching myself so it's not very official 😁. And this channel has inspired me so much to branch out a little, rather than just doing the same thing every time I sit down to paint.
      I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with that (no offense, I'm just kind of shy about showing people what I've done, in all areas of life really). But if I ever change my mind I'll put a video up on my (unused, shame on me) channel and comment the link.

    It shows us how delicate butterflies are. I love it when an artistic expression of of whatever it is and you still know what it is. Butterflies are so beautiful and you make them even more!

    Really enjoying your art. Could I ask the type paper you use cause mine dont spread out like yours did?

    • @bloomfeatherstudio1003
      @bloomfeatherstudio1003  Год назад

      Make sure to wash it with water first so that the watercolor runs a bit. What paper did you use? 'Ive done this many times on different paper. Personally, for cheaper paper I like Strathmore 400 series the best, but 100% cotton would work as well.

    So beautiful! I had trouble keeping my paper, wet enough while working on this. What kind of paper are you using?

    • @bloomfeatherstudio1003
      @bloomfeatherstudio1003  Месяц назад +1

      I have used both cotton and cellulose paper. It definitely needs quite a bit of water, especially with cotton paper. If you try again, wet the butterfly first, then wait a minute to let it soak in. Then, wet again where you see it drying up. Let me know how it turns out!

    • @bloomfeatherstudio1003
      @bloomfeatherstudio1003  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks! My rigger is an off-brand that is many years old and doesn't exist anymore. I think the most important factors when looking for a rigger is long bristles that can hold a decent amount of paint. If I were to buy one, I would look for a bit thicker than what I currently have.
