- Hi everyone! I got through my first week of teaching Middle School! I am feeling all sorts of emotions, but I am grateful to be here and to be given this opportunity to be a teacher this year. I had no idea when accepting this job what the state of the world would be like, but I know that there is a reason that I felt strong enough to return to the classroom again and I will continue to hold on to that. Thank you so much for being here and enjoying this quick first week back to school! I'm looking forward to taking you on this journey with me and sending you love.

unrelated but I wanted to tell you that a couple weeks ago you said "your students are waiting for you." this mantra has kept me going through the hard parts of starting college and I cannot wait to continue! maybe it's a merch idea? it's been so helpful for me.
About a month after what happened at your school, the same happened at mine. I was a student in my senior year, eager about everything that was happening in the next six months.
I remember writing letters to students at your school, saying “I know I can never understand what you’re going through, but I am with you.” Just a few weeks later, it all changed.
Over the course the past few years, and of your journey to healing and happiness, I’ve been along on mine. No, we don’t know each other, and our situations aren’t the same. I don’t think I will ever be completely “okay” but I’ve learned to live in my new reality. I’ve learned to adapt because of what happened.
I’m now a Junior in college, and I must admit I have similar feelings to yours. I guess the point of this is to thank you. Thank you for helping my heart heal and thank you for guiding me through this “new normal” in life. You’ve helped so many people, and you probably don’t even know it. Just keep being awesome!

I’ve been a middle school teacher for the past 4 years. I would never want to teach another grade. They’re so funny, quirky, and since their bodies/minds are changing then they need guidance in how to become a true version of themselves.

So proud of how far you've come! For some reason starting school again makes me anxious; I'm 22 and a Freshman in college. I'm so worried about it, but something you said a while back has inspired me to keep pushing "Your students are waiting for you" Even though it's tough and I'm anxious I know I can get through it and my students are waiting for me at the end of this College journey! This video has made me feel so positive! I am doing my student teaching this year and it’s easy to get discouraged that I’m not getting the whole experience. But I know this situation is only temporary and students will still be able to sense my enthusiasm

Thank you for this video. I teach middle school as well and the school’s internet disconnected on Friday in the middle of class. We were directed to work from our classroom. It was so hectic. I felt all kinds of emotions. I’m praying every day. 🙏🏽

Ms. Brittany, I will start high school in September and I have less than ten days left. I am really going to miss middle school. You are now teaching and it is wonderful for you to educate students everyday. You are a middle school English teacher and you are teaching virtually. When we were in middle school, our teachers told us that they learned so much from our creative and vivacious personalities. Your students can write about the objects that they presented. As for my school schedule, I will see all of my teachers on the first day before block scheduling commences. I love you

A few days ago, as I was zapping on TV, I came across the end of the Hannah Montana's movie and I started crying hearing "The climb". I hadn't listened to it since my teenage years, so having been through some things in life and understanding the lyrics now, brought tears to my eyes.
I love your videos Brittany! You have a calming presence and make being a teacher less intimidating as it may seem. I am going back to school to be an educator and I am a little nervous what my student teaching will look like this spring when I do it. Thanks for the positive energy you always bring! PS where did you get your cardigan? Looks super comfy :)
thank you so much, it means a lot! I wouldn't say it is intimidating. There are hard days, but there are also good days. You can do it! The cardigan is from a local boutique here that closed down a few years ago :(
Omg yes! I feel, especially working with children and being on a back to back engaging one-on-one schedule, it's so hard to drink water at work! I leave work SO MANY days and realize my cup of water is still full, then get so discouraged because it's not even 1/2 of the water I should be drinking for the day lol.

Hi Mrs Brittany, I truly enjoyed your video of teaching middle schoolers and you truly have a passion for education.
I also enjoy pursuing education because it has a huge part of my life and it's a good escape.
You made a good point in regards to self-care because some people may not think it's important to do things for yourself.
I can relate to you when it comes to self-care because I find myself in the mother role a lot with my family especially in making sure they are taken care of before myself.
During this quarantine, I have taken more time more about myself by getting plenty of rest, reading, spending time with family, and listening to music since that was another huge influence in my life from middle school to high school.
What are you doing for self-care?
Also, I checked out your teacher outfit a month ago and absolutely adore every outfit especially the birdies slip-on shoes.

I'm starting my 3rd week of senior year tomorrow, I feel numb. I mean I'm happy but confused and it feels unreal. Kind of like being stuck in a jar of pixie dust and it having a happy effect on you but you knowing there is so much that could be going on outside, yet the jar is closed. I don't know I have so much school work, college, and many more stuff I'm just overwhelmed. Just existing.

thank you for being here! hmmm, that's a good question. regardless, I am still planning for full classes, but I think being virtual comes with a lot of technology use and that can be really challenging sometimes when you are trying to do a presentation and balance talking to your class, watching everyone, and engaging them at the same time!

I feel kind of strange for not doing a get to you thing this year. I have the same students again this year. Some of them have been with me for three years. It's really great to see them grow. If you ever have fifth graders and then eighth graders, the difference is unbelievable. The maturity is really eyeopening. :)
I'm going to do the One Word Project with my students the first week. I think we all need something positive right now.
