When downloading and installing the new OS I turn off the time machine automatic so it will not interfere with the process. When it is downloaded and installed - then I turn the time machine back to automatic.
Thank you Tasia. Upgraded as we're afraid of being vulnerable to threats. Bonus tip 2 for sure. I also use time machine for back up. Never needed it yet but it's a good safety net.
I prefer a NAS. Through a few hoops to jump through with 3rd party hardware, Apple hardware just "plays nice together" SMB is a nightmare. Thanks to Apple "own" way
Hi Tasia, thank you for your very interesting video and advice give. May I please ask for your help and advice before I go ahead and possibly make a wrong move. I am currently running a of macOS Catalina Version 10.15.7 and due to the many problems I am having with it I was intending to Erase everything and re-install either the same version or move on to Big Sur or Monterey, but unfortunately I have no idea as I am not a computer wiz kid by any means, which is why I am reaching out to you for your help and advice before I go ahead and install anything. Your help and advice will be greatly appreciated since you seem to be much more of a wiz kid than I could ever be. Thanks a lot for taking the time to read my message. By the way I am fully aware that I should do a Backup before I do anything. That much I do know ah ah ah. Regards John E.
HELLO ! GREAT VIDEO ! Q: I HAVE A MACBOOKPRO 2011 (HIGH SIERRA) I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT IF BIG SUR OR MONTEREY IS ADEQUATE FOR MY MAC. I DID LOOK AT THE LINK YOU RECOMMENDED STILL NOT SURE
Hi Tasia, I am a UK viewer of this video, which is very helpful. However, as an 82 year old man, and not very technical. I am currently using Mojave, so I am 3 upgrades behind. I am scared to update in case problems occur, which I am unable to rectify, or which might upset my computer. Also, I have read that Monterey slows down the computer. Can you provide any re-assurances that will allow me to do the upgrade confidently. Many thanks. Terry Davis
Hi Terry, 'Respect'!!! 82 years young and having 'a crack' awesome! I am a 52 yrs and not very technical, I have managed to upgrade to Big Sur, so I am only one upgrade behind (hahahaa) but nervous about upgrading to Monterey for the same reasons as you. I guess at the end of the day, as long as you have backed up your machine, you can always revert back. I spend many hours on the phone to my 81 years young beautiful mother trying to explain how to do stuff on her i-phone and computer. She used to have a mac but her partner trying to do something nice, updated her hardware but effectively downgraded her by buying a PC which makes it even more difficult to explain to her how to do things in a phone call. Anyway, just wanted to send some 'tech challenged love' your way! Good luck with whatever you decide! I have just backed up my macbook and are about to take the Monterey plunge.
Went to upgrade then it kept freezing saying needs to be connected to internet I was at home connected to internet. Gave up upgrading after 3 attempts.
Im kind of feeling thats probably going to be what's best for me too. Some ppl are better at being (semi) beta test drivers for OD software than I, myself am.
They need to slow the hell down on their updates. I just updated less than a year ago and apparently there's been a few since then that I've ignored. Ain't nobody got time for that! Pick something and stick with it Apple! Christ.
Apparently you don't install it on your external ssd if you lack space on your internal hd. How was I supposed to know that was a horrible idea? I barley even know what an OS is. Google said it would be fine. I did it today and it wiped my entire drive without even warning me first. Computers... I'm just gonna become Amish.
I called Apple Support about upgrading my 2018 MacBook Pro and was told it was “safe” - then the install “bricked” the machine - at first the Apple Store told me I would have to pay $600 the fix the machine but a follow up with Apple Support verified that I had called and gone over the Build, Storage (130GB) and Admin privileges… are replacing my machine. CALL 1st!!!
no 32-bit.... but if your on Big Sur, you would know this anyway, so your apps would more likely be 64 anyway. Apple menu, About this Mac, System Report. Under Software, go to Applications, and go through the apps in the right pane you use.. The bottom pane will show the "Kind" eg. 32 or 64.. FYI.. the patch version may be the 6th version, but its still buggy lol.. It better than 11.1, but I wouldn't say "better" Go to DU and first aid, copy files,, while its "waiting" you see this pesky,(but cool graphics going back and fourth,.... its drives me nuts,
Things you should do before, IS NOT THE SAME THING AS, SHOULD YOU UPGRADE! If you can't comprehend the distinction, it's unlikely the contents of the video will be worthwhile.
I feel a bit of da-ja-vu coming on ,.,. Don't we go through this with every MacOS update?? You would think people would know by now, yet must be repeated again, and again, and again. Man, we're forgetful.
What To Do Before Upgrading to macOS Monterey? Have your head examined for even thinking about it! Same goes for buying a MacBookPro16 M1! Worst mistake I've made in MANY decades of using Apple products exclusively!!! What a P.O.S. (Problematic Operating System)!!!
Hey friends! Thinking of upgrading to macOS Monterey? Here are 5 things you need to do before upgrading!
