You're videos are very informative on the illness. I have family and friends who have schizophrenia. Happy Xmas to you Lauren. All the best from Ireland.🇮🇪✌️
...any glow races!?
Good luck with your keto diet. Hope it really works.
I've been struggling with schizophrenia for 3 years and not one med put me into remission. I don't know who needs to hear this but I started taking them yesterday and immediately, all my brain fog, all my anxieties, all my delirium, all of my symptoms are so negligible that I believe this is going to be permanent so long as I take them with my Seroquel and Prozac every day.
For help with schizophrenia:
Vitamins B6,B12
Mushroom complex(reishi extract, cordyceps extract, lions mane extract)
Omega-3
Take these once a day and issues with memory, anxiety, general brain and heart health.
Also COVID causes vitamin b deficiencies as well and I think that's why there's so many mental health conditions attached to COVID.
thanks. i hve schizophrenia. will try it.@@baconbo11
I'm glad this showed up in my feed today. No matter what challenges people face, a healthy and well planned diet is always a critical component to keeping us healthy and at our best. Very important, and I wish you all the best as you continue to share how that works.
Best comment in this topic!
I hope and pray that these interventions move you forward into remission and ultimately recovery. Some will say that the sacrifices are too much and “eating birthday cake”, “having a good mixed drink to relax” or “smoking pot” is what makes life worth living…. Mental illness is just part of life (label). As a father of a son with bipolar 1 and daughter in law with major depression who do not take care of themselves, I personally think that you are on the right path. Your husband and children should be proud of you!
We are all proud of you
Thank you for sharing your experience and your life with us. I’ve been following you since one of my loved ones was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Your experience and knowledge has helped us navigate this illness and ensured that our loved one thrives. 🙏🏼
Newly diagnosed diabetic! Struggled with severe panic disorder/ptsd since I was 21. But it was undiagnosed diabetes this whole time 🤯
Wishing you the very best of luck on this endeavor! ❤
Excited to follow this project! Wishing you the best!
Excited to see the journey. Thank you for being such a blessing! ❤
I’m so excited for you! ❤
Wishing you the best. this is going to be tough but very rewarding experience if one keeps at it.
This is great news. Can wait to hear more. God Bless you young lady. ❤
Thank you for sharing your journey. It’s sparked off some new conversations with my doctor. Especially as energy issues, spasm and mental health are big things in my family. I had no idea keto could be so scientific!
This is soooooo wonderful! I'm in the middle of writing a book along these same lines called 'The 7year Experiment'. I'd love to send it to you once it's complete!
I adore you! Thanks so much for sharing ❤
Good luck Lauren. It’s exciting all the news coming in about Keto for sure. Obviously keep up updated and let us know if it specifically has any effect on interpersonal deficits, negative symptoms, anhedonia, ipseity disturbances issues etc if those are issues you struggle with. I know Chris talks a lot about resolution of psychotic symptoms with keto but wonder how well it does with the devastating deficit and negative symptoms. Thanks :)
I am glad you are digging into this aspect of keto.
Good luck! and I'll be watching the videos!
Can't wait to watch your journey.
I asked this question a few years ago when you did a live where you answered questions! Unfortunately at the time my question wasn't addressed but I'm so happy to see you delving into this!
Praying it works out, Lauren! ✝️❤️😊
This so exciting. On one of the first videos of yours that I watched, I asked if you had considered metabolic therapy. I was worried I might have overstepped, but then saw you had talked to Chris Palmer and now I'm thrilled to be able to watch this journey of yours. Will be interesting to see the effects.
I’m glad you made this video. I think you’ve got a great support system for this endeavor. I have depression & ADHD, and times in my life where I’ve taken up a keto lifestyle, my mental health greatly improve. The only thing to consider is sustainability to be truthful, as keto can be hard to adhere to at times and it can be restrictive (but there’s a lot of tasty keto friendly foods now). However, if adhering to keto means remission of symptoms or at the very least the cessation of needing psychiatric medications like in some stories, it’s wholly worth it. We, your viewers, are excited to see how this works and support you! Cheers!
You are so amazing. 👏 🤩 💖 a beacon of hope.
So exciting …hopeful 🙏🏽😇 ….started leaning in to keto to improve family members mental health more than a month back as I seek professionals to come alongside …easing off sugars, eating more avo(fats) etc, eggs, salads, good meat , upping exercise, sleep already good …. much love ❤️😘🤗
Oh, this is exciting!
Im so glad you of all people is speaking on this instead of like saying meds are the only answer because i view medication as more of a short term thing mostly.
Thank you for your videos. I love your channel. I have schizophrenia also and your videos give me hope. Thank you for all that you do
I am so happy for you Lauren, I will be doing this diet with you and I hope I will finally know what it feels like to be welll again. I have watched many of the videos with Dr. Chris Palmer
and I really don't know how to implement the diet. I really appreciate you doing the ketogenic diet and I am very excited and hopeful. Happy Holidays to you and your family.
I look at the keto diet and just don't know where to start so I'm looking forward to Lauren's journey too. I have ADD, PTSD and depression and my father was paranoid schizophrenic. I would love to know how this could have helped him.
The basic thing is to keep the carbs low, 20 grams or less, and then depending on your body weight up or down the fat consumption. More if you want to be weight stable, less if you want to lose bodyfat. But of course be careful in the initial stages because the 'keto flu' can be painful and dangerous in terms of your symptoms in that stage
Dr Berg has alot of vids on RUclips of ketogenic diet. Look him up
Love you girl !!!!
Keep us updated and please be safe 🤍
good luck with this hope it gives promising results
Very good!! Thank you 😊
You are an angel i really appreciate your videos my friend has had this taking over his life
Just really surprising that medical communities are still in the dark about how to treat scitzo affected people as an individual
Your content is gold. My God bless you.
I hope these interventions work really well for you!!!
This is perfect! Thanks for sharing! Can''t wait to see if Chris Palmer's theory is going to make a difference.
I wake up hearing someone call my name who is not there. I believe this is common. Thank you for your sensitive videos. You are incredibly intelligent
Hi Lauren!
Good luck with this and I look forward to the journey. I would like to try it, but I should be using the lowFODMAP diet. But some of that clashes with my diabetes diet.
It would be interesting to hear from pregnant women with mental illnesses. There are very few meds allowed during pregnancy. So, does the Keto plan help them? Would they be able to nurse?
XO
Sounds exciting and hope these new insights can prove at least a little helpful to many. ✌🏾
I’m so excited to see your journey and interviews with experts
I’m hoping you’ll have some really positive results
It is unfortunate that this will be your sole focus with content for the next 6 months as I enjoy your other videos. I wish you the best of luck.
Im so excited that you are doing this, will be really interesting to follow you and see the results! Personally I belive in occasional gut cleansing and fasting as well 😊
Awesome 👍. I hope it helps, it has been proven to help a lot of different problems. I tried it for about a month, I felt the benefits straight away and had more energy and motivation throughout my day. However I struggled to stick to the diet as my wife does the shopping and she was not doing the Keto diet with me.
UK based researcher here recently just awarded funding for a large programme of work on metabolic psychiatry, including investigating the mechanisms of a ketogenic diet, as well as a large lived experience expertise component that I will be leading. Will be following along with great interest!
I'm so excited for you and this journey! I have reactive hypoglycemia and some other issues that don't lend themselves well to keto. However, when I had a brain injury, I googled what i could eat to help heal my brain. That helped tremendously! I'm now on a path to lowering sodium intake due to an increasing frequency of bouts of vertigo. Knowing your body and brain and being willing to investigate will go a long way!
Good luck!
I LOVE this new approach. I really wanna follow your journey in it. Go Lauren! ❤
Looking forward to watching your journey! I'm a mom who uses keto for depression and kids and their foods are my biggest challenges so I'm excited to see how you navigate and hoping to learn! You got this!
Your timing on this is really incredible! I, myself, was just about to try the Keto diet for the sake of helping my ADHD, so seeing you start this for your own mental health right at the same time I'm diving into trying it for mine is really exciting! I will mosr definitely be following along as I go on a similar journey of my own with Keto. I truly wish you all of the success in the world with this, and will be sending tons of good energy your way for an amazing outcome! Thank you so much for being so brave as to share your journey with us, and for all you do for people everywhere looking to improve their mental health! Best wishes for every success to you on your journey! 💖
Yeah Girl!!! I believe!!!!
My granddaughter has epilepsy and a rare brain disorder called PVNH. She had 100s of. seizures daily. The doctors srarted the keto diet for her, closely monitored with a lot of education for her parents. She is down to 9 seizures a day.
Really looking forward to following you through this process.
My own mental health (adhd, depression, anxiety) is 1000x better on a low to zero carbohydrate diet, as is my digestion, menstrual cycle, and energy.
The part that makes it difficult is the social pressure to “not diet” or “not THAT diet” and I’m just so happy that it’s being studied and taken seriously as an effective therapeutic method. More ketogenic options in restaurants, less pressure to drink, more emphasis on exercise… all these are so valuable for mental health and it’s so much easier to stick to them with a community.
This is exciting!
So excited about this!
This is good. It is good to have knowledge and try any thing and all things! ❤ my son has sought nutrition, and supplements for his mental health and has improved exponentially! Go for it.
What supplements help your son & in what dosages please? Does he eat keto, GAPS, carnivore, FODMAP diet?
I am so happy you discovered Dr Palmer! This is going to help you!
Thank you! My partner was Keto WOE for several years and went off it and then heavy carb loaded and went into psychosis/catatonia that lasted months. His transfer addiction is food, particularly carbs and caffeine. He has disordered eating still and it keeps his moods, and mental and physical wellbeing bouncing all around.
Thanks!
whatever I just hope it will make you feel better bc u deserve to feel better you seem like a very nice woman
I too have started a change in my diet and have a professional Nutritionist assisting and I am focussing on changing my Gut Bacteria at the moment and more proteins.
I am doing more of a Mediterranean Diet.
I agree 💯
Best of luck.
Diet definitely affects my mental well being, low carb with no processed food makes me feel the best. Years ago we moved to a farm to grow all our own pesticide free food. The trace peticides were affecting my husband's inflammation. He is doing really well now.
you should check out the book Your brain on Food by Uma Naidoo. She has different chapters in the book on how food affects your mood. There are chapters on Adhd, ocd, schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, anxiety, libido etc. She mentions food to eat and foods to
avoid to help your mood. She even has recipes for a whole day for different ailments. She mentions supplements as well and what vitamins you should be trying to get through your diet. I have made a few of the recipes in the book and I really enjoyed them. At the end of the book there's a cheat sheet of what foods to avoid and what foods to eat for different ailments. As well as what vitamins you should include in your diet. She also has a chapter talking about the Ketogenic diet. You might want to check out this book as part of your study. You can pick and choose what chapters to read rather than having to read the whole book from cover to cover. Thanks and keep up your excellent work.
Two other great books are Brain Energy by Chris Palmer, which Lauren mentions. And Change Your Diet, Change Your Mind by Dr. Georgia Ede, out in January.
Yes! I wonder how much diet has an impact! ;) Good good!
Wooohoooo! I have been on keto for a week, can't wait to see if it helps my schizoaffective/bipolar/schizophrenia! I hope it works for all of us! Thank you for sharing your journey Lauren! Let's gooo!
Good luck
Thank you SO much!!! It is needed@@m.mercedesalonsosevilla2090
Well done Lauren for continuing to support us all with information. I wish you all the luck in the world with this project, you truly are an inspiration to everyone who watches your channel. Thank you so much, we love you!xx
Cool! I love the research into the reasons for mental illness. I think that there *has* to be some physical reason for mental illness from brain disorders to diet’s influence, etc.. Enjoy the journey of learning for yourself!
I am so happy to see you exploring additional avenues to support your mental health. You are a spectacular patient as well, educating yourself, taking an active role in your treatment and reducing the stigma for other patients seeking (or needing to seek) mental health support.❤❤❤
Been sort of doing this without really realizing it. High protein for me, which is sugar free or honey sweetened peanut butter to get something in my stomach when I wake up, or if I want a snack just grab a spoon of it. I have a lot of stomach issues so this just happened because I don't want to eat but I need to, so yeah. Seems to be working, plus keeping a daily routine and regular social interaction and routine meds yadda yadda. Routine is paramount, and especially one that you actually want to do or don't mind doing every day for the foreseeable future.
Sounds like a good experiment, Lauren. I also wonder if switching up cardio for strength training could be considered as an additional intervention, if that resonates with you. I have a schizoaffective diagnosis and found that running always erodes my mental health, while strength training helps with metabolism and building a stronger central nervous system. To each their own, though. Good luck and look forward to hearing more!
How do you go do all that. e.g strenght training and running. When Im on anti psycotics I am not motivated enough to keep going to do such
@@jeanpaultongeren125 I have been off antipsychotics for over four years, as they’ve never been effective for me. While my current diagnosis is schizoaffective disorder, I believe CPTSD with psychotic symptoms would be more accurate (but try to get a psychiatrist to understand).
I don’t run anymore because for me, running becomes about losing as much weight as possible and can lead to food restriction and other unhealthy habits.
I had symptoms of burnout and depression that I’ve been slowly healing from since 2021, When I felt ready get back to exercising, I started doing some gentle movement using Fitness Blender workouts (they have a channel here on RUclips and a website). I moved to weighted workouts with light weights. After a lot of stops and starts, and also addressing some of my internal trauma, fast forward a couple years and I am back at the gym lifting heavier.
With all that said, I know the feeling of being on antipsychotics and it is so debilitating. I wasn’t able to work out at first. Just do the best you can at whatever movement you can manage.
@@jeanpaultongeren125I'm flat out just getting out of pajamas, cleaning my teeth or having a quick shower. All 3 are a hood day for me!
It makes sense that less carbohydrates would increase mental stability. Any time I overeat them I am sluggish depressed and literally agitated.
Hi Lauren, may I ask what medicine are you on? I’m taking Aripripazol and paliperidone.. which I think made me more propense to have delusions when the meds withdrawl.
Cool stuff
I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome; so very interested to see how things turn out!
This is so exciting! And one thing is for sure, you will definitely learn something from this project! I am really excited for you and for what you will discover over the next 6 months and going forward!! God bless you all in Jesus’s Holy Name, Amen!!
Smart
Yay!!
IMO this type of effort of inquiry is to be welcomed.... although I am not familiar with this specific method of self-discovery I applaud the drive in this direction---I could go on but briefly is preference currently so it may be a stretch but if can ponder the mere idea that we are here in this vast universe on one planet of many ---there has to be assigned understanding and purpose of understanding within all of this; without this type of efforted pursuit and self-inquiry I'm led to consider between 'Am I wasting precious time' and 'who am I out of billions of people with differences to discover discoveries of what seems to spawn of impossible-made possible birthing impossibilities.... the mere fact that we have continued to exist throughout a seemingly unsearchable origin is astonishing and ever the more, evidence of an underlying drive, an underlying understanding no matter the unit of its measure it inches further beholding the ability mostly of impossible to possible mechanism by the spawning of reproduction and cancels as its own furthering rests as a progression, imo. With that bit being said I'll rest here----for now. #Insomniasfinest😅 (24 hours and counting)
Man giving up drugs is one of the best things I ever did. I've found there to be a decrease in my auditory hallucinations when my diet mainly consists of meat and veggies. I also believe over consumption of gluten and high fructose corn syrup may play a role in mental health. I have been asking alot of questions myself, why are mental health issues in the greatest country in the world running rampant? Espeacially in mellinials amd gen z. Yo i love your channel Lauren, been keeping up for years and it is really helpful in understanding amd dealing with my own psychosis.
It's because the country is run by monsters basically XP
oh this is nice
Thanks for this video. Could you please do a video on KarXT, the new treatment for schizophrenia that's finished phase III trials?
I’m really excited about this! My sister has the same as you and I’m hopeful for her because meds help but she still struggles with paranoia and symptoms.
I have schizoaffective disorder and my symptoms are mostly controlled by medications. I also have type 2 diabetes which responds well to low carb or keto. My issue is I have trouble sticking to the diet. Where did you find the specialist. I am looking for some type of support.probably will do dr Westman’s keto made simple course.
Yes, Yes and Yes! Excited with you. We already know Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetics can manage their disease via Keto under 30 grams of carbs a day ( Type 1 will still need meds of course but a keto way of eating can help keep Blood Sugar spikes very managable). This will be very interesting.
There's definitely a connection between the gut and the brain
brave lady ❤❤
We did the keto diet for my daughter who has epilepsy. It did help and as she has gotten older her seizures have been at bay for a few yrs. Although her kind of epilepsy can have long periods of non active times.
Having the same diagnosis, I will be watching intently. good luck!
Lauren, I'd love to see a video about understanding doctors notes. Most of it makes sense but it'd be nice to understand the shorthand.
What do you want to know? I can translate for you into layman's terms
I feel like this may especially true with bipolar 1 disorder. I have severe bipolar 1 disorder w/ psychotic features. When I'm in full-blown mania, it feels like my entire metabolism speeds up drastically. My skin gets hot to the touch, my overall body temperature raises, I start losing weight, obviously I become extremely hyperactive, and I can do physically straining tasks for literal days on end without getting tired or needing rest. My energy feels endless when I get to that level of mania. I also get my thyroid and endocrine system assessed by an endocrinologist yearly and everything is functioning properly. It really feels like I have a shift in my rate of my body's metabolic activity when I am having an episode. This is so fascinating.
I also have bipolar 1, and I get hot when I'm manic or hypomanic, I sweat from my armpits a lot, I lose weight, I never get tired until bedtime, fortunately I do usually sleep well through my episodes, many things similar to what you described.
My mum had type 1 and she was a chubby 50 year old woman but when she was full on manic she could jump out of a first floor window unharmed, spontaneously rolling like a martial arts practitioner, and outrun a 30yr old policeman through the woods. It was amazing. Quite sympathisable why people used to believe it was due to "possession".
LOL Well Whe Im manic I fight like a DBZ character....ITS REAL
Oh no a Helmans mayo lover
Miracle Whip is the best lol
It could also make things worse. There's a lot of paper theories about how things should cure or fix chronic illnesses, but many who try them, it doesn't hold up to the hopium. Just remember that many in these communities, if you don't get better, they will blame you for not doing it 'perfectly right'. Good luck with your journey.
She has shown herself to think logically and not fall for scams like that. it's definitely not a cure all (not does she say that in the video) but there has also been evidence of ketogenic diet helping with symptoms in epilepsy for a long time
What makes you think a different diet will make things worse
@@CashMoneyMoore You lose significant weight on a keto diet and it can put a big strain on your body as it learns to use protein and fat for energy instead of carbs. My body does not function without good carbs. It makes all of my health issues worse (blood pressure drops even more, heart rate is even higher. I have to up my beta blocker to compensate).
Hopium... Perfect new word!!!
Right fuel for your body is probably the most important, basic thing for both mental and physical health. Common sense.
Idk if this helps but I have mito disorder and low creatinine ( which is created by mitochondria when eating meat) even though I eat meat apparently it’s a marker or mito disease, but also a lot of other health issues too. Either way, I hope the changes help you, good luck ❤
waiting for KarXT too, it should be FDA approved this year
So off topic I'm sorry but what mascara do you use? It looks really nice
Can you document it in such a way where it is counted as valid evidence? I've definitely seen diet change my brain and I've know for years. It angers me that this isn't just general knowledge. I hope you feel the wonderful effects ☺️🌻
Your videos are great. I have one doubt, does Psilocybin help patients with Schizophrenia. Thank you in advance. God bless you.
No!! Steer clear of all psychedelics & hallucinogens - DMT, ayahuasca, shrooms, LSD, peyote/ mescaline, kambo, ketamine
Thank you so much for replying. I am a Bipolar with Paranoid Schizophrenia. I have tried all medications but life is miserable. Now I am getting better after listening to Videos by Eckhart Tolle@@Miss_Millie_
Look into root canals and how they can lead to mental health struggles in some people.
