The fact that you dove down set the camera up for the shot and then stoning two fish with one shot, is one of the more impressive things I’ve seen on RUclips!
haha love how that turned out!
Definitely did that
Love the video. Quick warning, the venom glands on lionfish are at the base of the spines, so even cutting them off you can still get stuck by the stubs. They're a lot less sharp and easier to work around when cut off, but its still a good idea to be careful.
didn't know that! thanks for sharing!
The double shot head pump made me laugh, thank you. ☯️🙏
haha
Amazing video. Love it. While it is frustrating when beautiful fish get away we are glad you show it so we can learn from your experiences. Thanks as always!
glad you enjoyed it
"Who put the Lion Fish in the beer cooler" would make a great title for a children's book. Man that water was clear.
lol!!!
Don't touch my Honey Combs, love the cereal bowl, great video
lol!
The shot of you heading down, but camera looking at the surface is so cool. Helps show the depth better.
Will try to show it more!
That 2 for one shot was awesome!
Haha thanks for watching!
Great shot !!!
Thank you!
That double shot was righteous! 😎
haha!
About to post a lionfish sashimi episode! What perfect timing. Also THATS MY KNIFE
Hot sauced that shit!!!!
😂
“I’ll take clear water over sunshine any day”
Isn’t that a fact. Love diving in the rain minus lightning.
haha no lightning
Fancy putting the camera on the bottom and getting in the shot, all while free diving. Seen a lot of people shooting these have not had any on the plate yet. That recipe looks great.
haha felt a little artsy! gotta try them! they are amazing!
that twofer shot was sweet!
haha!
Another awesome video! Thank you Aaron! I need a spear fishing trip soon. It’s been way too long!
Looks delicious. I found “cooking with clams” from you but didn’t know he was your roommate, I just thought he like using your kitchen and stopped by a lot!!! Lol 😂
😂
Amazing work as always but freaking love those angles while diving man. Really shows the perspective on the depth. we've made those tostadas ( with mangroves) 3 times since you and Clams shared the recipe. It's become the favorite way to eat fish in our house for sure! Thanks again!
I really like how it turned out with the camera in my hand! was feeling kinda creative! and thats awesome im happy to hear it!
I love lion fish and was bummed that one of my favorite restaurants in Cozumel didn’t have it the day I went out to eat! I look forward to shooting some when I come to visit.
They sure are delish!
That two-fer shot… nice job aaron … made my evening
was a really fun video for me! glad you enjoyed it!
Have never had em but a curry instantly came to mind!
I never try lion fish before, 2 in one shoot super that water looks so nice and clear, captain that looks delicious! Another great video fish slaughter!
gotta try them! you'll love it!
Not shooting a text to in one shot you enjoy that lionfish sure wished I had me some but a very nice video I love the underwater shots thank you brother
glad yo enjoyed it!
That was meant to say nice shooting Tex, two with one shot way2go LOL sorry about the misprint
Awesome channel! Keep up the catch and cooks! Best channel on RUclips.
really appreciate it! more on the way!
I was the first to like and watch.
haha love it! thanks for watching!
Another awesome video Aaron. I just made some ceviche for the 1st time and it was awesome. Fun fact, Robert Arrington’s, deermeatfordinner, niece Lauren, did a 6th grade science project on Lionfish ability to tolerate differing salinity levels. She won and was published, as a 6th grader. At any rate her research contributed to our knowledge of the Lionfish being able to adapt in widely differing salinity levels. Keep up the good work.
Instagator
that is awesome! they are resilient indeed as they are almost everywhere now!
Awesome underwater footage.. love it
I thought it was cool!
Two loins on one shot that is a first. Really liked the way you also showed the before and after on the recipe. No real details just amazing lookinh=g food. You are one heck of a sponsor your self. Take care of each other be safe and God bless. ☮
really appreciate the kind words! thanks for tuning in!
Hi YOUNG MY SON IS A MATE ON THE yANKEE cAPT. hIS NAME IS cORY. Man i love diving those mangroves my mom took magroves diving in the 1984 in the area you livin . way cool too see hte footage 30 yeaars later . Thanks
i'm sure I've met him! thanks so much for tuning in!
This guys got great content, glad I found him 👍
welcome to the channel! glad you enjoy it!
Great video! Love the side camera view from the sea floor.
Thought it was cool! Like how it turned out!
Good job. It's a win win. But anyway thanks for caring about the reef.
amen! thanks for watching!
Great idea to scissor off the spins before putting them in the cooler, safety first ! Very cool how you swam through that cave / rock pile then placed the camera on the bottom. Very nice bro
thanks so much for watching!
@Key West Waterman I appreciate you taking the time to reply to our comments, I am sure you get many people hitting you up. Not many youtubers reply, or at least not consistently. 👍
Awesome recipe! That fish is actually delicious.
it really turned out great!
Nice video .🏖️🌊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice double!
haha right! love it when that happens!
Never sleep on the lionfish dawg! Good advice
Haha so good!
Nice lion fish recipe. Enjoyed the vid.
glad you like it! gotta try the recipe!
Loved the camera angle as you dive down. You should do that here and there in your new videos
I need to try it again! thanks for reminding me!
What an awesome diving spot!
lots of cool spots on this day!
nice double!
haha thanks for watching!
Well Done! Thanks for sharing!
thank you!
Finally weekly episodes
yea baby!
I had the opportunity to try Lionfish up in cocoa beach. I was an immediate believer. I ate it three more times that week. I was amazed at the flavor of the meat and just how tasty it was.
they really are great!
Looks delicious. Thank you.
Thank you!
Cool camera work!…. Always impressed to see someone equalize without a nose pinch. Its basically like having a superpower 😆
I like how it turned out! And i didn’t even know that was a think until a few years ago 😂 i assumed everyone could do it!
that was awesome two in one shot 😎😎😎
haha got lucky there!
Great video. If you spend all of your time answering all of the comments and questions on this one video then we won't see more vid's from you in weeks...lol.. Great work man!
Haha I’m finding a happy balance!
Love when the juices get flowing ahaha 🤣
haha you know what im talking about!
Got a nice one on hook/line in 170' a couple weeks ago, was my first.
That's a Jethro Bodine cereal bowl!
we randomly get them jigging! always is a surprise! haha! I don't play when it comes to cereal!
Good work. Have never speared them, but will give it a shot.
They are great!
Bottom footage in your film was killer LOL. Keep up the good work and stay safe. Btw it's time for a commercial trip video. be looking for it!
Got a little creative with this one! I really like how it came out! And I’ve been trying. Just slammed with charters. Thinking it’ll slow down soon though
@@KeyWestWaterman Charters are the sure $$ at least, take what's there when its there. Stay safe
Love those tostadas.. we make it all the time
they are def one of my favs!
Amazing vid!
thanks for watching!
I’ve seen a gowned big man cry getting stung with one of those !
I almost did! It’s not fun!
Got zapped 3 times in a week in Belize. 1st one burned like crazy, but went away in 20 mins. Next day got spined in the thigh. Same sensation but gone in 10 mins. Final time, less pain and over quickly. On a 50 mile offshore dive trip we killed 62 of them. That night at the dive bar they treated us to 3 different lionfish recipes plus sides - all for no extra cost. 2 tanks, gourmet lunch, plus dinner for $150. Crazy.
doesn't sound like you got stuck very good! its extremely painful and lasted for about 4 hours for me! but that's a hell of a deal!
Enjoyed
thanks for watching!
Great episode! Looks like the ‘from the floor’ angle was more because of having no mask mount, which gave an awesome new perspective whether intended or not. Any tips on braining safely before cutting the venomous spines?
Actually was just feeling creative this day! Lol. But I normally leave it on the spear and brain it, or just lip it with a pair of gloves and a long knife
@@KeyWestWaterman nice! Definitely came out very cool from that angle. Especially the double.
👍 Neil Young playing in the background 👍
every damn day!
Whoa 2 in one! Nice shot!
haha love it!
One of these days you should set up a go pro in the canal after you tossed a bunch of unwanted fish parts. You would be surprised what comes in there to eat!
I have been working on stuff like that actually!
Just watched this one. Great double take down! Liked the way you put the camera down to make the shots. Dumb question: How long can you hold your breath? It seems like you're down there forever! Again, thoroughly enjoy your videos and how you easily you explain everything. Keep them coming!
thought this one had a cool feel! and it all depends, an average dive is only 1:30 or so
@5:25 damn double homicide LMAOOO
Lol
That double kill shot was sick at 5:14 almost a triple
haha thought it was pretty cool!
@@KeyWestWaterman year old video and still answering the comments, dedication all yall who help make it work.
Ceviche Chalupa’s look insane! Will try with flounder or cobia.
They are great!!!
Amazing
thanks for watching!
Lionfish come from the south Pacific and are invasive in the Caribbean. Good job, kill'em all.
Like #666 😂. The ceviche sounds awesome.
Haha we do! And it really is one of the best for it in my opinion!
Hey I'm fairly new and I'm loving the content. I would like to see a video on how you got into commerical fishing. I would love to get into it as well just not sure how to get the permits.
glad you like the content! and thats a video I honestly don't really want to make. it all depends on where you are, what you're targeting. there's a million different things you need. not to mention a ton of cash. a grouper snapper permit alone is like $75k. best thing to do if you're looking into getting into a commercial career is get a job on an already operating commercial vessel!
I have always dreamed of hunting lion fish
they are delish!
Insanely common off Tampa/St Pete. Really good market prices and if you are deep enough they are prolific. We don’t cut the spines any more but do a straight fillet of them, much faster and haven’t been stung after harvesting hundreds.
yup I believe it! lots around here as well if you know where to look!
As always, great content and very informative! Just curious, since you knew what your target species was (lionfish), why wouldn't you use a Lion Tamer gigging pole as it is easier and quicker to use and reload? Again, just curious...
forgot to bring it
That Bimini top is really keeping you dry! 😂
lol crushing it right
That double was nice
haha love it when that happens!
We truly enjoy your videos. As a mother I deeply appreciate it you put details in so people can see what you are doing & how to do it. We have watched all of your videos and now my husband & boys are the new I want to be" Sea Hunt" diver from Lloyd Bridges old shows....Thank you, Thank you. we do appreciate your time & efforts.....a quick question pease: what type & mil gloves do you use to work with for: lion fish, lobster, crabs.
really love to hear yall enjoy them! thanks so much! and I use mainly Neptonics gloves, any dyneema based gloves do great for me. neptonics.com/product/neptonics-dyneema-gloves/
@@KeyWestWaterman Stay safe out there and we hope to see you all sometime. Honestly, we enjoy the fact you keep it "Real" & all the hard work you both put in on making videos is amazing! Do you ever sleep?
Nassau at 5:00? cool cave!
yup! was a big healthy one!
I will someday taste a lion fish from florida
haha they are all over!
How common are these nearshore? visiting the FL keys soon, no boat, so I'm limited in how far I can go out. How many can I expect to see on a jetty? how about 1000 ft out? didn't look like there were that many in your vid. nice double bagger.
depends on the spot! some people do well from shore but know where they are going
@@KeyWestWaterman can I get a few lionfish spots?
Lion fish fillets remind me of crappie fillets.
Both delish!
I caught 10 crappie and catfish last weekend and on the 4th we fried them up and cooked up some sirloin steaks too. Had us some surf and turf!
I watch your vids all the time. Do you straighten your bent spear shafts or do you have dozens of them leaning in a corner somewhere?
I have dozens of them. I have a guy that will straighten them just have to get them up there!
Would like to see a video on how you got into commercial fishing!
lol it was honestly an accident!
I heard the pain from a Lion Fish is unlike any other! Super painful. On the other hand, looks extremely easy to catch 🤷♀️. Dinner looked delicious 😋
It is very very painful!
Man what a great idea cutting those spines off before putting them in your boat! Get all them jokers you can!
amen!
Great video! Did you notice any bump in subscribers from your pseudo collab with Blue Gabe?
it was Kellys video, but def had a little spike there! was very kind of her to do that, she didn't owe me anything. hope to have them out on the boat someday!
Awesome Aaron .. why would u not use a simple pole spear and lobster bag?? Being u can so close to then!!!Just a question?? I haven’t seen them yet here in South LA. In the GoM!!
Gunner, my thought on that is that since he has to come up for air anyway, no real need to bring a bag down with you (one more thing to carry not to mention the drag). Still, I would have thought the use of the pole spear and a paralyzer tip would be the way to go for these fish. Easy to get off the spear.
if im in the shallows I bring a 3 prong, but yes free diving there's a ton of drag carrying a bag around. not efficient! realistically sometimes ill just keep loading my gun with the lions on the shaft and go back to the boat with 4 or 5 of them
@@KeyWestWaterman Aaron.. I e seen others bring bags and have them anchored to the bottom when lion fish hunting.. Seems like a neat idea.. But yes I’m sure it’s in shallow water...
Lion fish is one of my favorites! Always nice taking out an invasive species too.
It really is delicious!
They are very good eating fish
so good!
I’m curious about the snips you use. I find most scissors out there are low quality crap that does not last. Which ones have you found that last at least one season. Thanks.
lol these are them. these are $2 at the register at cuddle sales. I buy them by the dozen. I normally get at least 4-5 months out of one set.
Nice
Thanks for watching!
It's convenient to have the canal behind the house when you clean the fish. Have you ever had any trouble with gators ?
it is! and I have no, we seem them around from time to time but never have in my canal!
hey I see you have a canal side home... are you able to park the boat there?
I could probably get the big boat in but it would be tight, but I don't ever bring it home.
Aaron what brand mask are you using? Great video’s as well!
that is a scuba pro solo, the best mask ive ever owned. I have a big issue with masks pushing on my brow. I've had that same mask since I was 18. unfortunately they don't make one with a GoPro mount.
@@KeyWestWaterman Thanks for the reply. I have the same problem with masks. I went with the seaview frameless and its been great so far.
Those Lion fishes are huge! Is the average size now in the keys? They’ll were tiny 10 years ago…
lots of different sizes. these were close to average.
Do you use a dive computer? What kind? Thx ❤️ the videos
sunnto d4f its just a free diving watch
Great video as always, but how do you go down without pinching the nose to equalize??? People say that swalloing does the job, but as far as I try it, it never works...
I use a method called hands free clearing, i'll be honest I didn't know I was doing it until an instructor pointed it out. apparently it's not very common.
@@KeyWestWaterman Thanks for the reply! I have some friends that also have this "luck" on clearing without having to pinch their nose...maybe it's something from each body's anatomy! Anyway, hope to have a chance to fly over your area to go out spearing some fish (I'm from Rio - Brazil). Keep the good job on your videos, it's always a pleasure to watch them!
do you ever use a sling/Hawaiian spear for the lions? they seem pretty docile.
Yea i have a 3 prong for them!
How do you equalize when you go underwater without pinching your nose? Love the video by the way.
honestly I don't know, I've always done it that way and didnt realize it was a thing!
collateral!!!
thanks for watching!
I have yet to have lion fish but it looks amazing. I can’t get over how they have no bloodline whatsoever. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen seen one bleed before.
it really is wild how nice the meat is! they are incredible
Am I the only one who is wondering what creatures are lurking in that canal? I bet some crabs will be enjoying that lion fish skin!
all kinds of creatures!
Hey Aaron is there a certain depth you usually start running into them?
I’m the keys everywhere, bridges any ledges or rocks the deeper you go the more but They are everywhere
@@RandomChannel-eg3wx I thought that was the case too but I was just in Marathon and I was so looking forward to killing a bunch of those things. We dove about 10 pilings on the seven mile bridge and saw one small lion fish. We dove some patch reefs and didn't see any at all. We were not in anything over 40 feet though. I thought they WERE going to be very easy to find but for us, that was not the case.
they are literally everywhere, but they like structure. ideally somewhere they can hide. a ledge, cave, hollow coral head. anything with an overhand and a dark comfy corner. 5 ft out to 300'
Noticed you don't clear your ears as you dive down. How long did it take for you to reach that point? Also, how did you train to hold your breath for 2 min plus? Or did it just come naturally?
I "hands free" clear from what i'm told. apparently its a rare thing. didn't know I was doing it until i had a certified Freediver on the boat. and Never done any training. I grew up surfing my entire childhood and swam a bit in highschool. just came naturally.
