I'm 25 now and have only been 2 or 3 times since I turned 18. mini season is very nostalgic for me, and its crazy to see how more and more boaters seem to show up every year. I miss being able to get down to the keys more than anything I've ever experienced. I hope to be able to afford to return the favor to my parents and start taking them back to the keys some day. thanks for the content, it lets me remember what home was like while I'm watching this all the way out in Japan!

When you have boiled the heads and shells into a stock, I take all the shells, guts and all, put it all into a cotton bag, and pound and crush it all up as much as possible, then you put it all into a blender and puree it into a thick paste, then strain it through a strainer, and then you will have the best tasting soup, stock or seafood sauce ever.... and you will NEVER throw the shell away again. I freeze it in ice cube trays to be thawed as needed. I live in Australia on the great barrier reef.

Seriously 28:40. I moneyshot a Pavlovian response on my keyboard. 😂😂
Finding a honeyhole must be really tough with the humanity these days. I remember a day at Boca inlet in the very early 80s, the South jetty had antennae sticking out of seemingly every rock. All we had were gloves, pillowcases, and snorkel gear and we got our 6 each limit (as it was then) in short order. There were some dudes that were poaching and wringing near us, we got back to my buddy's house and called the Marine Patrol (as the FWC was known then). I had never seen so many bugs in my life. Had to be a walk the night before because I hadn't found them in previous days.

Makes me want to live in the Keys. But then I drive through Homesteads. 30 years ago was a totally different experience. I remember Frog gigging on my friends boat. Had them lined up like lines on a highway. Ma skeeter was a local legend and one of the best country cooks to ever prepare me a meal. I never got the pleasure of Gator hunting or Lobster fishing. Boa Constrictors were only seen if someone had a pet. Amazing how 3 decades can totally transform a place. I like '" Boat People " and enjoy island food but I really miss Southern Florida in the haydays

We limited out both days and I’ll give you a spot that you can take the contender to whenever and there are always lobster there. Even had a few charters pull up next to us on the second day. Props to you for always keeping things realistic, man. Got a question about etiquette and would love your perspective. As you say, finding these spots takes a lot of time and effort, and some people don't like to put in that time. I'm one of the people who's spent many weekends just looking for holes. But sometimes, going out with friends is the best part of these experiences. What do you usually do when a good friend invites you on their boat? Put in a spot, but delete it after? Keep all your spots just to yourself? Put the number in and leave it in their GPS? Keep your own portable GPS and use it to get there?

Great video man! Looks like you and Madeline had a great time out there! We went out for mini season up here in big pine, but the storms and wind were horrible the whole day. We managed to catch our limit and had a great time tho. Awesome video!

One of these days I'm gonna be an adult and remember mini season exists so I can actually put a reminder on my phone to participate 😂. Great video as usual, and awesome catch and cook! Although, I can't help but feel bad for the lil cat waiting so politely and patiently for its plate of lobster only to be denied and then on top of that have its seat stolen! The sad longing look @ the 30:50 min mark had me lmao. Hope they at least got some lobster bits later on. I would sleep with one eye open if I were you.😂😂😂

I never learned to hold my breath long enough for lobsters. I'd need traps if I was there. I have a couple crab traps and they're pretty productive for being dropped from a pier while I try to catch fish.

Looked like a nice crab was in there too! I remember my first trip to Belize. I went out fishing with a local and they had pieces of plywood on the ocean floor propped up with a stick to make a artificial ledge and he dove down and caught me some. I love the taste of spinytails!
