The fact that her family too are toxic, made her ungrounded and unprotected made me so sad. I still remember when their parent divorced and they made her looks like 'choosing sides'. Mrs Spears made several books about it and Brit looks miserably dragged into it.

I guess the thing about being a successful singer is not all about having a powerful voice. Sometimes, uniqueness is the key to success. There are so many powerhouse singers from all those singing competitions and reality shows, but only very few of them is as successful as Britney. When I hear Britney, I instantly know that it's Britney. But for some other singers, when you hear them, you'd be like is she trying to be Whitney Houston? If Britney had kept singing like how she used to as a child, maybe she wouldn't have been so internationally recognizable.

@@angelataylor7799 yeah i mean... Christina was forced to fit the pop icon image but she got tired of it immediately and decided to do what she wanted from Stripped onwards, so Britney could have rebelled too if she wanted to. I don't know why she didn't, I don't know how much pressure she had from her father and so on. But in the end that way of singing ruined her vocal chords. So in my opinion if she really didn't want to sing like that she could have rebelled and finally be herself. Maybe money was more important but we really can't know...

Назира Сайнидинова because of Hollywood. When you grew up being a child actress/singer, you have lots of pressure to be perfect and all and britney probably got forced to make her voice baby. And i heard that she sign in with a record label that said she have to make her voice baby. Also i’m pretty sure they make her make the baby voice because her voice and christina sound pretty similar and they both i guess have deep voice and they decided that they want only one to have a deep strong voice. And i guess cuz her natural voice is very strong and deep, it’s harder to sing all song because her tone is very deep.

As long as i would like to hear her singin with her chest voice and not make playback, part of the reason of why she is famous is because of that "baby voice", Max Martin and others producers made her a product, they manage every aspec of her to make her interesting to people (at that time), songs, clothes, dance, and voice, and they made it

Looking back at all the shows i used to watch, Icarly, Victorious, the amanda show... lot's of very creepy stuff on these shows. Water fights with underaged girls in swimsuits, playing with their feet etc etc... the world of child stars is very fucked up. Because Britney had the doe-eyed look to be sold as the "Born Sexy Yesterday" thing and producers knew it would sell and it did. Ariana Grande also happens to fit that niche, she just has a voice that matches better/the experience that she didn't require as much finessing at the hands of the industry. But, that's the market and if you look at how many full-grown men were positively drooling at Brit when she was way too young for them, you can see it worked. It's gross to me but there is absolutely a huge market for young women who are physically sexy in an adult way but still project a lot of cute in a non-adult way that reads as young and naive.

For anyone who doesn’t understand what’s meant by “real voice” - when her debut album was in production the studio execs decided her voice was too similar to those of her peers, like Christina, and wanting to separate her from the other mouse pack and turn her into a brand they hired someone to come in and RETRAIN her to sing in a little baby voice. The execs thought that it would be more sexy if she sang like a little girl and way more marketable. But it’s way to high for her. Her real voice is much lower. This is bad for her vocal chords and is shredding her voice, which is why she HAS to lip sing so much. Awhile back she wanted to record an album using her real voice and kind of reinvent herself so the public could get to know her on a more intimate level. But as soon as they found out her real voice would be used they shelved the project and wouldn’t let her continue. She really is controlled from top to bottom.

Jennifer Brigitte, Christina’s Reflection didn’t chart, and wasn’t commercially successful on the Billboard Hot 100 or most radio formats. So I doubt that was the reason why the label had Britney sing in a different register. The label saw an opportunity for her to be Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, Samantha Fox and they went for it. If anything Britney’s success is what made record labels search for their own Britney’s which is why Christina, Jessica Simpson and Mandy Moore we’re forced to record more bubble gum Britney sounds. Originally Christina was supposed to be an Adult Contemporary Celine Dion type of singer (listen to her EP Just Be Free) for what type of sound she was peddling in 1996-1998 before being signed to RCA. Britney originally wanted to sing “Sheryl Crow” kind of music, but the label wanted something more similar to the Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys and **NSYNC. Jessica wanted to be a gospel artist.

My guess is you had to either really kill it (such as the divas of the time : Christina, Celine, Mariah, Whitney) or be kinda bubblegum poppy and digestable for a 12 year old girl to listen to. Though she was GREAT she was not at the level of those divas. An example that comes to mind is Mandy Moore. Though Mandy sang in her real voice and IMO was one of the best, she didn't have the vocal ability others did.. and kinda was just semi-successful (in comparison to Aguilera and Spears) 12 year old me preferred Britney because it was easy to listen and sing along to. I don't believe she would have had the success she did had she sang in her real voice. But maybe given how fame has damaged her that wouldn't have been such a bad thing.

Christina doesn't want anything that is shown in this video at all. She has an insane range and her own singing style, that's why you hear people saying "that sounds like Christina Aguilera". As for Britney, I think she was forcibly imitating stronger singers when she was younger but it's true that she had a darker tone than the actual baby-ish sound used in most of her records. However I hear the baby-ish sound somewhere in the voice that she has in these videos and I hear this voice in her very first hits such as Baby One More Time, I think her real problem, after she had hit puberty, became singing in tune live which has nothing to do with one's tone. The good thing about Britney in these videos is that she could sustain long notes (00:36). That's what she actually lost. However I don't know why Britney fans are making comparisons with Xtina, they didn't sound alike. Britney used and still uses lots of vocal fry and her tone was always more nasal (00:48 ain't nobody crying). Christina sounds utterly different, not even remotely similar. She has smooth low notes, falsetto, head voice, range, power, roars and stuff like that.

Christina actually has a natural deep voice lol, watch her I Have Nothing back when she's 14. It's even deeper than what she has right now. Her failure to adjust to her mix is what makes her voice screamy rn. She has a deep voice, with a very unique tone, great diaphragm and pipes. She just failed to improve her technique.

Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears sounded too much alike on the Mickey Mouse club, so they were told to go different directions. Britney was told she needed to sing higher pitch and Christina was told to sing lower.

This is the Michael Jackson Syndrome, all over again. Take a child, that sings, sounds and acts like an adult, then when they become an adult, make them sing, sound and act like a child. It's the ambiguity of it all that is so bizarre...

@Kibbles N bits the sad thing is, they would have had to have given him some serious estrogen to keep his voice like that. No wonder he was so androgynous

Totally. It's actually really common that young people who experience trauma end up "getting stuck" in some ways at that age as far as maturity level and behavior are concerned. So, as they become adults, it becomes more noticeable, because they are not maturing and can't cope like most adults do.

@@smccreery86 yes. She also has the adult behaviour of a (dare I say it) sexually abused child. I'm sure this is a factor in her behavior. If u search up, "mk ultra: kids", she seems like a perfect example. And yes, parents have done this to their own kids. The same mental effect happens to children abused; their minds break, and when somewhat put back together, they are easily controlled, but can have meltdowns. Its tragic
