Great video Travis. As a 36 years post injury quad. My advice is to take every opportunity thrown at you. Walking is so overrated, my wheelchair never stopped me living the life I wanted. You have a long and potentially very fulfilled life ahead of you. Your mindset is amazing. Look after the important parts of being disability. Just never allow your mind to be disabled. Hope that all makes sense?
Good for you (I mean this genuinely). My father is going on 23 years and he has let his physical disability consume him hold him back in every aspect of his life which has been exhausting to deal with as a caretaker.
Travis thank you for sharing this. Back in 2019 I woke up and I couldn't move my legs. Called the doctor's office and was told he was booked for the next 4 weeks. While walking holding on to things I tripped and fell, and I ended up breaking my neck. Like not being able to use my legs wasn't bad enough. Anyway, my story is too long for the space allowed on here, so I'll make it short. They said I wouldn't walk again. I'm walking with a cane. I'm not fast but I'm not sitting in the wheelchair they arranged for me. People I didn't even know were making decisions for me. I live in a second floor Condo, and they all said I should move into a facility for someone in my condition. I didn't listen and I'm glad I didn't. Hearing your story made me reminisce back to the beginning. Travis, your right, people will tell you that you can't do certain things, they mean well but they're not always right. You do think about your life and the things we took for granted. I don't do that anymore. Every day is a Gift and that's how I treat it. Travis, thanks again for sharing your story and whatever you do don't give up because it does get better. You are proof. P.S. we're both proof.!
My sister had a diving accident in 1990, she is c5 & c6. You seem to have a very positive outlook, that means so much. She was 17, summer before her senior year. It's always been so hard to think how one split second changed everything. Prayers to you, as I can personally relate 🙏 I know you will inspire many.
Travis you are such a strong handsome man! I pray God gives you peace when you are feeling a little down. You are such an inspiration to many and not just by what you’ve overcame physically, but your mindset/gratefulness is a force that will take you far! Sending you all my love! ❤

In a matter of time this is how I will also become. My oncologist basically told me that my spinal fracture will render my spine to completely give way. I'll become quadraplegic due to aggressive cancer that's eating away at my spine. Lord knows I'm dying, but I can accept that. What I fear the most is neurological pain when the cancer reaches my spinal cord. I watch your videos and draw on strength from them in that they might help me to see reality of what is coming to me. I thank you kindly for your videos. My worst fracture is T3 AND T2. I also have sternum fracture also from the cancer. 🙏❤🇦🇺
Hello Travis from Chicago. I'm in my 50s n my partners in his 60s n he was hit by a car crossing the street 1 night n almost died. That was about 19 years ago n he still can't walk without help. He is a happier man now than he used to be as we both now live life more fully n don't take things for granted. Your wonderful n a total inspiration to me and of course my partner inspires me as well. I plan to be watching your progress.
Hey Travis. You look almost exactly the same as I did after I busted C5-6. I did the 7 months of therapy at the spinal cord rehab center I was in. Three and a half months into my injury, a lot of muscles just started turning themselves back on. At that point rehab. started kicking my ass. All I wanted to do each day was to go back to my room after therapy and sleep. And the next morning the nurses & therapist's were getting me out of bed to start therapy even before breakfast was brought to my room. They kept telling me that there was to much work to be done, and we needed to take advantage of what was happening. It was crucial that those muscles needed to be worked as hard as they could before the atrophy made the muscle to weak to work. One of the biggest problems we had was that nobody had ever seen a C5-6 with the amount of return that I was having after almost 4 months of nothing. Nobody knew how to teach a quad. to pee again. Pooping again was relatively easy, but it was really hard for the Dr. to tell me what needed to be done to pee on my own. They had never come across this opportunity and weren't sure what I needed to do. I was walking, granted very slowly, but if I can walk, I should be able to pee on my own. We just didn't know what to do. When I was released from the hospital, they had ordered a wheelchair for me. By the time it was delivered though, the only thing I was using it for was getting dressed in the morning. Please let me know if there's something I can give to you. Any intelligence I can give you, or techniques that worked for me, or just someone to compare notes with. It would mean the world to me if I could pass along any knowledge that would help you, and then you pass it on to the next walking quad. Take care my friend.

Strong work brother. I've had many injuries in my life from sports and activities (ACL, dislocated shoulder, numerous fractures), nothing as serious as yours, but I agree the mind is our most powerful muscle. I spent most of 2022 on the ground recovering after a ski accident. It humbles you immensely. I will never take for granted the ability to walk, to clothe myself, and other basic things. Don't limit yourself. You are young, you have amazing spirit, I know you will accomplish great things in life.....whether that's on your feet or on two wheels!!!!

Good lad 👍. Well done with your rehab. You are where you are, but you’re making the most of everything that you can do. Still got that infectious smile. Best wishes from Cornwall UK 👍👍👍
Hi Travis! Thanks for sharing your story. Even though you've suffered this catastrophic injury, you've still done things that many of us physically able folks are too timid or afraid to do. You are proof that we are too often limited by our own thoughts & lack of courage, more so than our physical abilities. All the best to you, Travis! God bless!
My daughter has cerebral palsy from a birth injury... she's 8 now and just started to walk. She also had a hemispherectomy when she was 1.5.. so the progress she made up until that point was wiped out and she had to start all over but she did it. She loves to watch videos like these of people "like her". This kid has such a good attitude and I'm sure he's helping so many people. ❤

Wow, I really admire your determination & positive attitude. Thanks for this video & sharing snippets of your recovery. What you went through can happen at any time to any of us, and your video is a true public service. As a side note, the ergometer for the arms is an underrated machine. I’m like the only guy using it at my gym, but it’s done wonders for my torn rotators & it’s the best thing for upper arm strength. I wish you the best of luck lin your recovery & in life.
Impressive .. thanks ... belief is something very important in life .. as Travis said "always be grateful for what you have because someone will always have it worse". Alhamdu Lilah.

I'm so sorry this happened, but your determination has been admirable and will continue you in good stead as long as you don't give up. Who am I to say it? A respiratory therapist who has had lots of rehab experience. I've worked with young people like you and it's heartbreaking and mind blowing at the same time. The amount of work and stubbornness when others are just giving up! You ROCK, never quit.
Attitude is the best incentive, or the biggest stumbling block, in finding a new normal, and new ways to enjoy life! With family and good friends, they can help a person recover, no matter what the injury or illness! We all need to appreciate those around us, who love us unconditionally! God Bless you as you continue to find new ways to cope.

You should be so proud of yourself. You are an amazing young man. And you are soo sooo brave to be so honest with the world and letting your guard down to total strangers. You definitely have taught me some things today. Thank you for your gift to the world. Much ❤❤❤❤❤ from Louisiana!!!
I had a friend who was in a car wreck at 15 in 1977 that broke her C5 also. She lived a long full life. She passed away from bone cancer in 2019.
Young Man what an inspiration yoh are to me. So many would have given up and yet You learned how to continue Life doing everything you did before minus walking. May God do great things in your life, be HEALTHY HAPPY AND GO GET EM💗
What an amazing example of humanity, science and physical therapy combined as a comprehensive, holistic healing process. There is good in this world. May God bless you and yours, along with all that participated in your recovery.

Thanks Ryan for sharing your story. I'm inspired by your drive and determination and thanks for reminding me not to take things for granted. So easy to forget. I broke my neck C1, C2 (Christopher Reeve fracture) while riding a motorcycle when I was 22 and God willing avoided paraplegia. I'll be praying specifically for your full recovery buddy. Take care

Hey Travis! I've been a quad since 1990 (C5 incomplete). Live life to the fullest, and enjoy every day!
Impressive .. thanks ... belief is something very important in life .. as Travis said "always be grateful for what you have because someone will always have it worse".
Alhamdu Lilah.
Stay strong! God bless your family for being there for you all through out. You have an amazing support system. You’re gonna be okay.
This was really inspiring, Travis. Thank you for sharing your story with us. I wish you all the best!
I care full time 24 7 for my mum who has parkinsons dementia and had a stroke 12 years ago. I dont have a day off and me and my husband lift her exercise her and i feed her and give her drinks. I wash her and the saddest thing is she doesnt know me some days. I am encouraged by your journey and your positive attitude. If only all people with illnesses had acsess to the equipment in rehab. Im sure all this support and help would benefit most especially the elderly. Keep up your positive attitude.

You and the wonderful team around you are quite simply amazing,
The human spirit is a sight to behold ✨🙏🏼
Well done Travis for overcoming the obstacles. Wishing you a great life. ❤

Thanks for sharing. Your an inspiration to others and provide hope to other spinal cord injury patients especially those with recent injuries. You young folk never cease to amaze me with your dedication and the amount of time and effort you put in to be able to regain as much as function as possible. ❤️
This video has really given me some inspiration that I really needed. I've been suffering from severe depression because of a rare disease I was diagnosed with and the effects of said disease on my dreams combined with the losses of both my Grandparents and then my Aunt and Uncle and then the worst my mother. I needed to see this. You are in my prayers and I hope you have more good days coming. 💯🫶😇

I'm so proud of you! don't stop fighting! indeed we never think this can happen. we take lots of things for granted. please remember all the beautiful things in life and cherish it like you can. It's ok to have bad and good days..You are never alone, you are loved. Never be afraid to ask for help. You are so genuine and kind. You can see the sparkle of life in your eyes. I wish you the best.
I HAD A SEVERE HERNIATION OF MY C6-C7 DISC IN MY NECK, I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU WENT THROUGH, MY INJURY HAPPENED IN 2015 FROM LIFTING WEIGHTS AT THE GYM, TOOK ME A GOOD 3 YEARS TO START FELLING BETTER, IT'S BEEN 8 YEARS NOW AND I CAN LIVE MY LIFE NORMALLY NOW EVEN THOUGH MY NECK WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AND I FEEL DISCOMFORT A LOT. I KNOW WHAT YOU WENT THROUGH IS WORSE AND I'M GLAD YOU HAVE HEALED, LIFE IS UNPREDICTABLE, I THINK THIS INJURY HELPED ME FACE REALITY AND CONTINUE TO MOVE FORWARD IN MY LIFE, I WENT INTO A DEEP DIVE, I WENT FEET FIRST INTO THAT DARK PLACE IN A PERSON'S MIND THAT CAN EITHER BREAK YOU OR MAKE YOU STRONGER.
Oh God bless you, Travis! I had cancer around the time of your injury. I am thankful to be alive. I came through this by the grace of the Lord. I cannot do what I used to do. This is hard for me to accept. You taught me something today🙏😊 Thanks for sharing. Live in hope!
You are completely OUTSTANDING!!!! Way to be a total WARRIOR…
I recently got a injury to my leg that damaged my peripheral nerve in my ankle, Ive never in my life have been so grateful for the small things and I take consideration of everything and I appreciate everything so much more, im still recovering and hopefully will make a full recovery but seeing your story inspires me to fight and get back on my feet. I was hit by a truck as a pedestrian car was going 60mph

You are a warrior, and today you became my new hero. With much love and blessings.
You are going to do great things, and inspire many.💓💓💓💓💓💓
Thanks for sharing this. I'm a few weeks away from 30th anniversary of the accident that paralyzed me. T1 here, so not so far off. There are going to be some hard hard days ahead, but if you keep the positive attitude, you will prevail. I hope you look back decades from now and are satisfied that you overcame and conquered this.

My cousin was paralyzedfrom the neck down and didn't get the rehab opportunities. He cannot move a thing. You're doing amazing
Physical therapy is so underrated by many! It’s a miracle! 🙏
Travis I understand a bit of what your going through although I’m not as badly injured as you. When I had just turned 50 I collapsed at home onto a kneeling position and the blood supply to my legs was cut off resulting in a right leg above the knee amputation and my left leg was so badly damaged it’s now none weight bearing so I found my life had completely changed. My kids were all grown up and I had been looking forward to special times now they no longer needed me. It’s 12 years now in a wheelchair and I’m still not used to it I don’t think I ever will be to be honest. I think your amazing such an inspiration to me
Your a good man Travis. Your spirit is very powerfull and your determination is help me and inspire me . I'm 53 with blown back , sciatica and I can walk it's just daily pain and misery with pain. I refuse to accept that I'm an old weak man now , so I push myself and I'm back into bodybuilding again at age 55 now. Life is never easy for anyone and it's all about how we comeback after our " personal crisis ect ". The comeback is the Glory and the payoff. Beautiful people. Your comeback inspired me to man up. Refuse to be weak. You are a success young man , your a winner. You have the heart of a champion Travis. Hats off brother. Your make the world a better place by inspire others. Beautiful stuff and its priceless.

You're amazing and a inspiration. One of my friends was in a car accident a few years ago and he has the same mid set as you He just has fun and doesn't let anything from stop him from having fun and dose rock climbing and stuff He can walk without support now..
M now 70. I have Cauda Equina/Paraplegia. L1/L2. It has taken me 5 years of private physio. I can walk with aids, not far but I can walk. My Consultant told me i would never stand or walk again. Stay strong my friend you are doing well.xx

Travis your energy and determination are so inspiring! You're living proof that even in utter darkness there is still light/hope. When life shits on you you get up and deal with it. And without a doubt I'd rather date a guy with your attitude to life with or without full limb abilities than many of the guys I've dated. You're experiences and strength make you very attractive!
