We should be grateful to be living in an age where studying is so easy and accessible and effortless. But at the same time there are so many distractions now.
Omg THANK YOU SOOO MUCHH!! MY BIOLOGY TEACHER IS AN ASS!!! He basically tells us to take notes on sections from the book and expect us to memorize everything in one day and then gives us a QUIZ of 50 questions !! SOOOO THANKKK YOUUUU SOO MUCHH! I FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE FOR TOMORROWS QUIZ! :D

this was so simple to understand . thank you for the examples. I learned this about 2 years ago but I did not grasp the information as easy as I just did from watching this video. thank you again!!
this video saved my life , .... i really understood all of it before my exam by 5 days ... and it didn't take 5 lessons a week ..
thanks a lot Khan ..... You Are The Master
Wow! ten years ago.
Ten years ago i was in my diapers roaming around 😄.
OMG thanks you teach better than my teacher, you should never stop making educational videos 😆
exactly, also in my case.teacher better then mine also.
bro are you a biologist now?
@@ikseason24 yeah! I guess so
Excellent video! I have been struggling to understand these lessons, and found this on RUclips to study for my midterm I have to take today. I am so appreciative of its plain language, and slow visual breakdown in comparison to some other videos on RUclips. Thank you!
Taking the MCAT in 2017, I'm not even nervous anymore after watching a crap load of you guys videos. Thanks so much for this.
Taking it in Spring 2018, change of plans lol, then gap year in 2019.

What a wonderfully beautiful poem
This man's voice and handwriting has got me focused!
Khan, I love your videos. I've been watching your Biology playlist non-stop and I'm getting really excited about Biology. Your video on meiosis got me hooked. Keep up the good work!

This video is so great. Cleared so many of my doubts.
click 'settings', click 'play speed', click 2. The pain goes away quicker.
Been playing the RTS and Genetics Sim game Beetle Uprising on Steam - had to come here and refresh my genetics understanding so I could figure out the breeding - thanks for the gaming help!
These videos have literally saved me. I wish I knew about them before finals. I learned next to nothing this past year and am having to learn it all for the final.
so uh, it's been 8 years, you got a wife and children? you probably don't even have this google account anymore but just in case you do.
Very nice presentation. Comprehensive, simplified sketching with a soothing voice makes this a great study tool. Thanks I am studying for the Kaplan nursing school entrance test
wow, you commented this 10 years ago!! how did it go? did you make it into nursing school? wishing you well!!
Ayyy watched this during my exam! Very helpful.
du- during?? thats cheating
Khan Academy is the best! Thank you!
This is a really neat video explaining Genetics and Heredity, especially for VCE students doing Biology. Thanks.
I just wonder why don't those years I've been studying they have the internet. Can't believe all the excellent subjects are gather here!
I had to do this for my science "Choose your own 'adventure' (Assignment)" project, but, I developed a liking to your videos
You guys are doing a great job Khan academy !!
Hey, this is the same teacher for Economics!! Brilliant human being!!
having a marathon of your bio videos before my sat 2 in a month thanks!!
thanks for the help i just pass the genetics exam with very good mark ,,,u r simplifying genetics so much in this way .thankssssssssssssss
Awesome video! Thanks for posting. It really helped me understand the basics. I really learned a lot more through your video than in the month of work through my physical anthropology class.
thank you..you have jus made genetics become clearer and clearer to me.. than you again.........pls keep doin what you are doin pls, its worth it.
At 9:37 the genotype had some trouble. Dominant always comes before recessive. Great work though!
this guy is able to reassure you of everything you have learnt in class, and then teach it better
I love your drawings and some of the explanation's, but I feel you can shorter videos, by not repeating the same thing or going off on tangents
Thanks to this video i finally understand Punnett Squares
I've learnt more in 17 minutes, than in the 2 months of a genetics course in school.
Me too
Waaa, you makes my Genetic studies easier man !! Thanksss a lot. God bless you !! :D
thx we have a test tommorow we love you for teaching us
Not we u 😎
That dominance thing is definitely the case with chickens. We had two black chickens a few years ago, they both had one chick from a very colorful golden brown cockerel and they both produced completely black chicks.
Really Helpful For grade 9 Science Pray for Canada
awesome, helpful in higher education

I watched several videos but none explained heredity so well. Thanks!
ok I have to say this.. you have the most epic voice ever!

tommorow is my exam ... N
Thank you so much. I have always been confused about this until now. I now get it.
wish i knew about kanacademy from long time!
Wish this went into detail about codominance, incomplete dominance, etc or that there was another video for more depth. But as always, awesome job!
Here in 2017 with a test tomorrow, thanks!!!
I'm 4 assignments behind and I'm watching this by my own free will 😅😅
you are an excellent teacher, thank you very much

If he hadn't, we'd still be blaming some things on superstitious influence and magic and witchcraft, that could easily be understood as inherited trait.

Is the dominant allele always represented by the capital letter?
jiminie's kookie yes and recessive allele is represented by a lowercase letter :)
In dominant/recessive inheritance, that should always be the case. However, there are other types of inheritance that follow different rules.
Yes
This video and another has helped so much prepare me for a quiz tomorrow! thank you!
Wow. The same thing has occurred to me. My dad has green eyes and my mom has brown, but since brown is dominant over green, I got brown eyes! Wow. Doubt cleared! Thanks, Khan academy!
thanks from germany!
better then our lessons...
Khan academy, this guy and Vsauce are like the basis for all teenage knowledge in science
awesome explanation......not boring at all
Ohhh my god this guy is amazing.
great stuff as usual!
Hey Sal. I know one person ho has different eye colors. But, thanks for this video anyway. Big Science Test in the 7th grade. Tomorrow. Last Major grade of the year and of the 4th quarter. Next year, 8th grade!
This helped me so much. thank you sir

He has standards, doesn't everybody?
@Kristine Sherman lmao
I hope pearson edu is paying you, coz this was on my psychology online course material
Just for the information that the eye color is determined by multiple genes. Khan had used this as an example of trait governed by single gene to make it simple for understanding.
Thanks Niraj bhaiya.
I wonder what you do now ? I mean it's been 10 years
yeah I like these episodes, I'm on the final season
how to find whether the feature like brown eye color is dominant or the blue eye color is recessive
Very informative❤️
My Geometry teacher knows this guy!
Amazing video!! Thankyou Sir =D
IT WAS REALLY USEFUL , THANKS A LOT !!
excellent explanation doc
i finally get it! i'm so happy, thank you :]
Zee Sky wow almost 10 years ago
11 years. wow
OMG! Thanks to you, now I understand ! very good an easy explanation tankx
I wanted to ask a question to clarify some simple concepts. We always hear that we have two copies of every gene (one from father and another from mother). When we say that, do we mean the 5-3 strand and 3-5 strand double stranded DNA? Or do we mean that there are actually two copies of the gene, each having its own 5-3 strand and 3-5 strand?
YOU ARE AWESOME .. how did you know all these information :D you're teaching math physics biology and even economy !! are you even human ?!
+Abdulrahman Mahdaly he knows stuff yew
great videos on biology generally. One thing however maybe you could put inheritance into the tags of this as that is how i searched for a video on this topic and only came across this one because it was in related videos. Thanks again
Khan Academy always has the best explanation. Straightforward and easy to understand.
thank you for all your informative videos.
passing my exam tomorrow because of you.
Thanks Khan really helped me!

This helps a lot for mah UDL project ;-;
At 9:05 you said that brown eyes are recessive, other than that, this it great!
I love the little brown eyed baby! it's so cute! ;)
thank you ,thank you ,thank you ,I finally understand now
Can you tell me the difference between traits and alleles.
In our biology classes, we don't use the word alleles we use the word traits. For example, blue eye trait.
The Alleles make up the trait, for example for the "blue eye" trait contains the alleles Bb if it were heterozygous, or containing two different alleles. The two alleles are B and b which make up the blue eye trait
Okay! Thanks!
Alleles are variations of a trait. Eye color is a trait, but each allele represents a variation of that trait. Different variations, or alleles, for eye color are brown, green, blue, hazel, and so on. Each person has two alleles for each trait - one from mom and one from dad. That's what the B and b represent...one allele from each parent. Now, some alleles are "stronger" than others - the dominant ones. Dominant is represented by 'B' and recessive is represented by the lowercase 'b'. All dominant means is that all it takes is one allele to see that trait. So, if brown eyes is B and green is b, all you need is one B from either parent to have brown eyes. If you get two recessive alleles (bb), you end up with green eyes. I know that's a lot of info. I work in genetics, so I try not to sound too confusing. If you have anymore questions or something's unclear, feel free to ask.
