This movie is so underrated and underappreciated. It is so full of symbolism that most people are too simple minded to understand. This world is full of people acting like ostriches, sticking their heads in the sand and ignoring reality.
The studio complained about the length of the fight scene and asked Carpenter to re-edit it. He said, "No problem!" ...and re-edited it so it was longer.
The length and intensity of the fight scene is indicative of the level of resistance the masses go thru to ignore the truth right in front of them. I have tried my best to wake those around me to the realities of this illusion we live in... and every single one of them HATES me for my effort.
Great reaction to this John Carpenter classic Shandor... The video game 'Saints Row IV' (which came out in 2013 & was remastered in 2022) has a mission within the game (called 'He Lives') that acts as sort of a mini sequel to this movie (and featuring both Keith David & Rowdy Roddy Piper reprising their roles from the movie as well as breaking the 4th wall by also playing themselves). It is a fun game worth playing for that mission alone. 😁🎮

John Carpenter only gave us a grade school version of the truth by throwing aliens into the script. Just like it's always, Russia, Russia, Russia, it's always Aliens, Aliens, Aliens.
The 1980s was the beginning of the major sell-out of America. There were posters that literally said, "Poverty Sucks" and it was not meant sarcastically. It showed two wealthy people holding champagne in front of their Mercedes Benz. It was a full-scale embrace of the embrace of wealth. The popular shows on TV were Dallas, Falcon's Crest and Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. There was an open, disgusting, push of the narrative that wealth was good.
It's a shame what the alien speaker said on the podium wasn't shown in full. World Gouvernment 2025? We may not be fully reachable in terms of time, but we are well on the way there.

Yes, it looks like the film has been beautifully restored. It seems to have gotten little distribution when it came out, and it didn’t become a cult hit until people like me saw it on TV a couple years later. The weakest aspect has always been the poor acting by the lead. However, I appreciated your reaction for reminding me of the film’s many good qualities.
I didn’t realize when I was young and watching this, Big Trouble in Little China and The Thing that these movies weren’t popular when they came out. I get John Carpenter’s bitterness. They were played constantly on cable and like you said picked up viewers who appreciated these great films.
This movie is a documentary. But, the aliens are the demons in control. One Gospel: Gospel (GOOD ANGEL) of Reconciliation. Jesus Christ came into THEIR kingdom to reconcile fallen angels unto Himself. We are the fallen angels (ELOHIM) kept in DNA chains of darkness. If you do not confess being a fallen angel in Lucifer's kingdom, then you are an unbeliever. Unbeliever = those that claim to be made in the image of ELOHIM(gods). REPENT FALLEN ANGELS.

Wonderful movie, one of my favs. Roddy Pipers background in pro wrestling really helped shape and make the character more realistic.
That's where Ronda Rousy got the name "Rowdy" from as he was a favorite of hers.
I love Sunday mornings with Shandor. I never know what movie to expect but it's always a great one.
