Smoke from this film could be seen from one of the sets of NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, which was filming nearby at the same time. There are echoes of CITIZEN KANE in this film.

"we'll see what I can do" is such an ominously bad ass thinly veiled threat that works in many ways

This is a very strange sentence but: I really respect you as a reactor. love your thoughtful and calm way of doing this.

The writer and director Paul Thomas Anderson, his favorite film is The Treasure of The Sierra Madre with Humphrey Bogart and Walter Huston. Thats also a classic about prospectors, greed and murder.
For Daniel Plainview, Day-Lewis based him and his facial characteristics on Walter Huston's character Dobbs -- and the voice is basically an impression of Walter's brother, the director John Huston.

SHANDOR!! a great start to the day!!
This is a whale of a character n performance!
Those old “Miner-49er”s were hella tough as all our predecessors were!
We stand on the shoulders of vicious giants!!
    And thankfully so!
I contend the actor who plays Eli has the MOST PUNCHABLE FACE in movie history!
So Daniel didn’t have to do toooo much method acting to pummel him! 😂😂😂

Paul Dano is always playing a weasel or creepy guy. He actually did a great job in Escape at Danemora. He buffed up and acts totally different. It’s a really good series on HBO I think

Yes Robert Elswit won the oscar for Best Cinematography.
He and director Paul Thomas Anderson work together on all of Anderson's films.

Gonna have to disagree with you. Daniel didn't change. The ominous music at the beginning should've clued you into his true nature. He never cared about the community or the boy. He might have attempted to rise above his sociopath nature at some point, but he failed. Daniel was an empty vessel from the beginning and the only thing that was ever going to fill it was hate.

Didnt care for the community, but definitely cared for his boy, and for his brother when he thought he was being honest.
