Scotty and Ayumu had such amazing runs. Happy Ayumu got the gold. His riding is insane. Props to Ben for giving us such fun runs to watch, love his creativity.
Honestly, Ben Ferguson is the of the most Chill, Underrated riders ever. I mean, he is just incredible to watch. He is so stylish in the air and his type of riding is just amazing and soo smooth. All those big guys like Ayumu Hirano and Shaun White and Scotty James are insane, but oh my goodness Ben Ferguson is just a great kid and really fun to watch.
The truth right here. Not to take anything away from them, but the kid Ben has soul.

Im pretty sure if Ayumu and Scotty switched places, Scotty would have gotten the 99 and Ayumu a 100, or atleast 99.xx. Reason they didn't give him a 100 was because they could not know if Scotty's run would have been better before seeing his run. If it would have ended up better they could not have been able to put him above Ayumu's score.

Props to Scotty James and Ayumu Hirano for all their tricks and spins, but oh my god did Ben Ferg look stylie there. I mean, he really is the snowboarders snowboarder and he IS the peoples champion, such an amazing creativity, so stylie I loved it man so beautiful to watch, amazing style.

I suddenly got a really strong feeling that Ayumu Hirano would get a perfect score aka 100 when I started watching this video. His last run really deserved 100, but I guess they decided to leave it at 99 for Scotty James to have a chance.
That though is like saying if the first contender in his first run performs THE BEST run you have ever seen, flawless trick variations, landings, height etc according to that way of judging you can't score it as 100 simply because he's the first one, which is just wrong to me.
However this is by far the best SuperPipe I have ever seen and it could have been even greater if Iouri Podladtchikov wouldn't have fallen. Imagine what his score would have been, what his LAST run could have showed us.
So sad to see him go down like that and I wish him a speedy recovery

the alternative would be to give that guy a gold medal before seeing everyone else's runs
Ofcourse not. If a contender equals the said 100 score run later on, he shares the spot. Simple as that.
what if someone else does a better run? what if that run you thought was perfect ends up being the "worst" run of the contest?
even if they share 1st place, you are still handing out gold medals before seeing every run (aka before you can know which run was best)
I see what you mean and how that can be a challenge for the judges, but Hirano should have got a perfect score in my opinion because of the things I stated in another comment

Legendary snowboarding - all contenders. Massive respect for your no fear attitude.
The girls at the bottom might look like fake smiles, but if I was there, I'd find it hard not to smile and laugh and be pumped up with everyone. They got paid to smile and chosen because they're nice to look at. Not many would turn down the opportunity to travel, hang out with like minded people, oh, and smile.
I do wish the commentators didn't sound like 8 year old's though... I had to mute (without the grab) too much.

Well there's something if you don' know I did paired up with Scotty James when the Special Olympics Unified Snowboard event made it's debut to X Games in Aspen Colorado and Scotty James and I had took the bronze medal.

Sean white was the cleanest smoothest pipe rider and went big. That's why he always won. He could execute his tricks perfectly and go down the pipe like he was riding on a rail. The most technically perfect rider I've ever seen, you had to hand it to him.
