Thank God i found your chsnnel. I m a stroke survivor. Recently i m experiencing spasticity on my stroke affected area. I will appreciate more videos to relieve pain from spasticity & nruropathy. More power to you & your channel!
I live on Saint Croix US Virgin and I live alone and you have been an inspiration for me because I have been very dark places mentally and somehow you seem to help me pull out of the darkness. I find great motivation and your RUclips channel helps me achieve some semblance of normalcy. I suffer a great fatigue and So it is hard but your channel helps me get motivated. We have no services here so your RUclips channel is so helpful I get therapy three times a week but it’s not as helpful as your RUclips channel sometimes I feel the people are overworked and just going through a routine
@nikkicicero, I'm so sorry you're not getting the quality of therapy you need, but I'm glad you're finding the resources on this channel helpful! Please take care of yourself ❤️ - Elyse
Ma'am you are an amazing person..thank you for truly caring about stroke survivors.. you have been an absolute blessing to me and my recovery I pray GOD bless and protect you and your family!
Thank you so much for sharing the above video. Love the videos you share. The way you both brief explain show how to go about the exercise. You are blessed with positivity . You try to give us an assurance that yes we can get well soon.❤❤❤
My husband recently had a left-brain stroke and has no function in his right arm and leg in addition to no speech. Spending 7 weeks in the hospital with complications, he had no therapy and lost critical recovery time. He was in acute rehab for 19 days and started making some progress with one hour each of PT, OT, and SLP 6 days a week. He is now in short-term rehab and not receiving enough PT, OT, and SLP on a consistent basis and I fear that he is going to lose ground on his gains. I found this video very helpful and will try to work with him when visiting him are the rehab. Thank you for sharing this video. These techniques are used at Spaulding Rehab in Boston as I saw during family training. I can use this video with my husband to help him.
@darlenetaylor, Thank you for sharing yours and your husband's experience. I hope you both are doing okay. I know this must be a really tough time for you both. I'm so sorry that he's not getting the amount of therapy he needs but glad you are finding my videos helpful! Please take care of yourself and if there are any specific topics you'd like to see videos about, let me know! My goal is to always meet the needs of the community😊❤️
Thank you. . My wife is right side deficit due to her recent stroke. I found these informative and will help my wife do them. Can you also provide therapy that helps people to get back long term and permanent use of their hands, feet, speech.
@soxmate, I hope both you and you're wife are doing well. I know it's a very difficult thing for everyone involved (survivor, family, friends) to go through. I'm really happy that you're finding my videos helpful! Unfortunately, there's no magic exercise, activity, modality, or medication that is a "permanent" fix. It takes a lot of work day in and out, consistently, to make progress. But you can help your wife increase neuroplastic brain changes by actively and repetitively helping her exercise and do daily activities. Talk with her physician if you can, too, about recommendations for her specific situation. Please take care!
@@PostStrokeOrg I agree with you Dr. Elyse and that was exactly my neurologist told me. It takes time to recover from stroke or brain injury. Thanks for sharing your exercises videos.😍

Thank you so much for what you do . I would like to see a video about weight bearing on the arm for a bed bound person . Thank you Elyse and his bless you.
Hello Dra Elyse I'm really blessed and appreciate what you are sharing in your channel. It really help me a lot what to do like a schemic stroke recovery, I'm so blessed that you have a channel that helps us every day. Thank you so much 🥰🥰
Awesome! Why didn't therapists these last months not give my niece? I was telling her to put weight on her affected leg but this baby step hopefully should do the trick to help her get use to doing that. Thank you for posting!
THANK YOU!! I’m bed ridden and have been for years due to a spinal cord disease and I do as much as I can in bed as possible. I do exercise almost everyday when I can and have always wondered if my bones are getting any good strength from doing things like lifting my tush and holding that weight with my legs and or leg. My nurse didn’t think it’s real “weight bearing” because some of my body is on the bed but these exercises youv just done are about the same thing but better because Iv been coming up with things on my own. I do my best to match you even if my position may be a bit different. So my main question is are my bones getting strength enough to build bone mass even if it’s not all my body weight that’s being lifted. I also was wondering if you know a back (upper and lower) strengthening exercise I can do in bed?? God bless you honey🙏🏻. You’ve helped more than you can possibly know🥰
I'm really appreciate what you do on your channel it's really help me you really understand what the stroke survivors feel like and what they going through every day
Dr. Elyse, thank you so much for sharing the above video. The way you brief and show how to go about the exercise is amazing. Please do share some more weight bearing exercises. You are an Angel in disguise ❤❤
@kikiliz44 So a general rule of thumb is the more repetitions and consistency of an exercise or workout the better to create neuroplastic (brain) changes. However, you'll need to talk with your doctor or therapist to know what's most appropriate for your specific situation.
I found your exercises very helpful. The weight bearing for wrist is what I need the most. I have alot of pain in my wrist and hand the most. There are days that I have trouble controlling my left side. My arm stays swollen compared to my right side.

@anurahbhatnagar, It sounds like you have made some amazing progress in your recovery! I'm really glad my videos have been helpful to you. Thank you for your question, but it's a hard one for me to guide you on. Knee hyperextension can happen for a variety of reasons after a stroke including spasticity, muscle weakness, proprioceptive issues (how our body tells where are muscles/joints are in space), and trouble with ankle movement. Generally though, some things that may help are strengthening leg and glute muscles, a daily stretching routine for hips and legs if you have spasticity, and/or certain braces for either ankles (like an AFO) or certain braces for the knee. If you can, talk with a doctor or therapist for more specific recommendations.

@fsrfamily, I'm so sorry to hear about your stroke earlier this year. I hope you are doing okay and glad to hear you are making progress with your walking! @Jeffreyzo As a general rule, I don't recommend it. That's primarily because if you have any sensory issues or real difficulty with movement, you can accidentally get it caught under you and potentially hurt yourself or limit circulation. But because I don't know your exact situation, I'd recommend reaching out to your doctor for more specific recommendations :)

I have several other videos on working towards movement without having any movement (mental practice and mirror therapy) as well as more specific workout videos for the hand and wrist that you may find helpful!
If you have little to no movement on your affected side, you may find starting with techniques like mental practice and active visualization helpful. They don't require any movement from you to start! Check in with your doctor or therapist to make sure they're right for you. I recently posted a video on these: ruclips.net/video/XpyPf17iEUY/видео.html
Great question! There are a couple of different ways! You can buy specific braces that help keep your hand flat. But you can also make your own using a stiff cardboard and fabric. Maybe this should be another video...
@vilmajohnson, Repetition of exercises and activities is one of the best things you can do to create those positive brain changes (via neuroplasticity). Keep working at it!! ❤️
Madam I am also a physiotherapist, one of my client is a RTA patient, she had multiple fracture in ribs and thoracic vertebrae, whenever I start my treatment plan in little vigorously, then she complains pain in ribs and back, so how can I treat her to improve muscle strength?
@sanjoydas, Thanks for commenting! So my general advice would be start with what she is capable of tolerating, even if it is against gravity ROM without other resistance (weights, bands, etc). We have to meet our clients where they are :)
@stevekierstead, That's definitely an option. I generally recommend flat hand splints to help with keeping the hand flat during exercises. Something like this: amzn.to/3NFX1tv If you are working with a therapist or doctor, they will be able to make more specific recommendations 😊

Good question, I’ve wondered the same if it’s OK to do that.
@Jeffreyzo As a general rule, I don't recommend it. But because I don't know your exact situation, I'd recommend reaching out to your doctor for more specific recommendations :)

How do I keep my affected hand open like that, mine stays curled
Great question! There are a couple of different ways! You can buy specific braces that help keep your hand flat. But you can also make your own using a stiff cardboard and fabric. Maybe this should be another video...
I don’t have that range of motion to put my arm in that position 11:33
Excicise to raise your shoulder up
Cannot figure out what you are talking please.-Thanks

@@PostStrokeOrg tnx a lot
Maybe l’ll get my care worker to keep my hand flat
@stevekierstead, That's definitely an option. I generally recommend flat hand splints to help with keeping the hand flat during exercises. Something like this: amzn.to/3NFX1tv If you are working with a therapist or doctor, they will be able to make more specific recommendations 😊
I love your videos. I help take care of a senior lady that had a stroke 3 years ago and couldn’t continue her P A from a service coming to her house. I recently started helping her by watching your channel. Question…, if it’s been Swahili since she has had any therapy, is it going to matter if I keep trying to help her with these exercises?
