    Seamus is a brilliant pianist, he has accompanied Emmet for many years and is able to balance the piano music to Emmit’s wonderful voice. Together they have given the world great joy, God bless you both.

      Yes, truly moving, ethereal-
      Ag Criost An Siol, Ag Criost and fomhar
      With Christ of the seed, with Christ of the harvest
      I n-Iothlainn De, go dtugtar Sinn
      In the granary of God, may we be taken
      Ag Criost an Mhuir, ag Criost an t-iasc
      With Christ of the sea, with Christ of the fishes
      I lionta De go gcastar sinn,
      In the lines of God may we be entwined.
      O fhas go h-aois, is o aois go bas
      From growth to age and from age to death
      Do dha laimh a Chriost anall tharainn
      Your two hands o Christ hither draw us.
      O bhas go crioch, ni crioch ach athfhas
      From death to the end, not the end, but all eternity
      I bParrthas na nGrast go rabhaimid
      In paradise of the blessed may we reside.

    I want this sung at my funeral, but I'll probably have to record it myself beforehand because with my luck I'll not be able to get ahold of an Irish-language singer when I peg out. 😀

    What a great rendition! I wish I could hit those notes with such clarity and perfection. I first learned this hymn in Cork in 1975. As the grandchild of four grandparents who had left the ould sod more out of need than desire (I'm sure), I had been raised as a hyphenated Irishman in a land never quite completely home and then left that place, finding the missing pieces of misty memory in Cork. This hymn was my first exposure to Irish-language music, and I had to learn it. Needless to say, my own redition was never a thing of beauty - but Emmet's version has the power to haunt the soul... and it does.

    As an Irishman brought up in the Roman Catholic Church and taught by ‘Christian Brothers’, I learned this hymn composed by Sean O’Riada in school. Sad to say that, though the words are indeed beautiful, many many Irish people are going to miss the salvation and ingathering that the song describes, simply by putting their trust in the doctrines of an organisation and their own ‘good works’ and merits, rather than resting their souls on the FINISHED WORK of Christ on the cross, whereby HE TOOK my sins and the sins of the whole world, ON HIMSELF, and as a wonderful exchange, GAVE US HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS (right standing with God).
    That is why the last recorded words of Jesus from the cross were “IT IS FINISHED”. The term is rendered by just one word in Greek....TETELESTAI....which means in effect ‘PAID IN FULL’. That’s why Romans chapter 5 verse 1 states: ‘Therefore (because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and his resurrection), being justified by FAITH, we have PEACE WITH GOD, through our Lord Jesus Christ.
    My prayer is that God would bring that revelation to many Catholic people weighed down by their own sins, and with no assurance of salvation. Go dtaga riocht De!! (Sorry can’t do fadas).

    Ag Críost an síol, ag Críost an fómhar;
    in iothlainn Dé go dtugtar sinn.
    Ag Críost an mhuir, ag Críost an t-iasc;
    i líonta Dé go gcastar sinn.
    Ó fhás go h-aois, is ó aois go bás,
    do dhá láimh, a Chríost, anall tharainn.
    Ó bhás go críoch, ní críoch ach athfhás,
    i bParthas na ngrás go rabhaimid.
    English translation
    Christ's is the seed, Christ's is the crop,
    in the rickyard of God may we be brought.
    Christ's is the sea, Christ's is the fish,
    in the nets of God may we be caught.
    From growth to age, from age to death,
    Thy two arms, O Christ, about us.
    From death to end, not end but rebirth,
    in blessed Paradise may we be.
