Just finished putting my camping gear away till next year. 35 year vet of Pennsic.

@shadowcat3163 my first pennsic was 1996. I missed 2014 to 2016 because we were stationed in korea, but other than that, I've been going consistently every single year. It's fascinating to think back on the things that have changed and the things that have stayed the same!

Fought at 17 thru about 40. First was 16 and missed only 2 since then. Getting harder since I hit 60 though.

Ahh, to be able to get away from the cares of the world for a bot of time...

Marveous to watch - but how did they know these are authentic moves?
Though obviously there was significant time in between, if this is what dance was like when the waltz came along, I can understand why it was so scandalous!

@EducatedSkeptic thank you for that great question! We actually have multiple manuscripts from the 15th and 16th century that describe social dance in various levels of detail. There are often gaps and challenges in the written word, though, so some aspects need to be filled in through extrapolation and visual sources, but nevertheless, the dances I teach and reconstruct come from original extant dance manuals. 😊

@EducatedSkeptic and indeed, although dances of the late 18th century were longways rather than threesomes like this, they were closer to Oringe in intimacy than to the waltz! 😅
