Loved this video! It's kind of curious how music feels to each person. My personal story with The Final Cut is really similar to yours: didn't enjoy it until after lots of years as a hardcore Pinf Floyd fan, but then, in a specific period of my life, I've just grown a powerful admiration for so many of those songs (The Gunner's Dream, Southampton's or One of the Few). The exact same thing happened for me with A Momentary Lapse of Reason when the new remix came out in 2019 - the new drum recordings, less 80's mixing and Rick's keyboards from live performances just completely changed my point of view and I fall in love for this album. Here's my list: 1 Dark Side of The Moon 2 The Division Bell 3 Wish You Were Here 4 Meddle 5 The wall 6 Animals 7 A momentary lapse of reason 8 Obscured by clouds 9 Atom heart mother 10 The final cut 11 The endless river 12 A sarceful of secrets 13 Piper at the gates of dawn 14 More 15 Ummagumma
It is! I was a little skeptical when it was first announced. I didn’t think it was possible to make Animals sound better than it already did, but the remix is a big improvement.
Roy Harper isnt the only non-member to be a lead vocalist on a Pink Floyd song, actually. That distinction also goes to Clare Torry on The Great Gig in the Sky. (I know that’s kinda cheap since she didn’t have lyrics) Anyway, my big 4 is DSOTM, WYWH, Animals, and The Division Bell. Division Bell is so underrated. It’s my second favorite album by them (after Dark Side) and it’s in my top ten albums of all time just barely kept out of my top five.
15. The Endless River 14. A Momentary Lapse of Reason 13. The Division Bell 12. Ummagumma 11. More 10. Obscured by Clouds 9. A Saucerful of Secrets 8. Atom Heart Mother 7. Piper at the Gates of Dawn 6. The Final Cut 5. Meddle 4. Animals 3. The Wall 2. Wish You Were Here 1. Dark Side of the Moon
Wish You Were Here has to be my favorite followed by The Wall and Animals. WYWH made me cry the first time I hear it because of how profound the sound was.
Meddle and Animals are my favs. Took the family to see Aussie Pink Floyd last weekend and was really surprised how great they were. They first half of the show was the full DSOTM and the rest of the show was bits off everything else, a couple of the Div Bell and a great performance of See Emily Play.

Wanna know the blueprint song for all Pink Floyd? Astronomy Domine. Sounds like Us and Them. And countless other stuff. Barret created their sound cause Waters emmulatef him.
Hi Nick, your choice for no 11, 'A Momentary Lapse in Reason', well, you know why it was made? For Pink Floyd to be be able to tour, regain their confidence as live musicians, and enjoy touring and playing together. They could have toured without a new album, but touring with a new album gave them impetus. If the album incorporated too many 1980s production cliches then with the live versions of the songs, the songs sounded different., They had to move on from when Roger dominated the band-his domination was not good for them an human beings..
Interesting takes. I personally like the psych takes just as much in most cases so my list would be different. One thing I would like to see is what region/pressings of the each record you show in these vids! Cheers.
Hey Nick! Speaking of Pink Floyd. There is a Pink Floyd Exhibition taking place in Toronto Ontario Canada. I just checked it out yesterday and I really enjoyed it. Thought you may appreciate this as a Pink Floyd fan.
I almost went out to LA last year to check it out. I know several people that did and raves about the exhibit. Hopefully it comes to either Chicago or NY.
Great video. Here is my ranking. 1. Piper at the Gates of Dawn 2. Dark Side of the Moon 3. Animals 4. A Saucerful of Secrets 5. The Wall 6. Wish You Were Here 7. Meddle 8. The Final Cut 9. Obscured by Clouds 10. More 11. Division Bell 12. Atom Heart Mother 13. Endless River 14. A Momentary Lapse of Reason 15. Umagumma
My ranking: 1. The Dark Side Of The Moon 2. Wish You Were Here 3. Atom Heart Mother 4. Animals 5. The Wall 6. Meddle 7. A Saucerful Of Secrets 8. The Piper At The Gates of Dawn 9. Ummagumma 10. The Final Cut 11. More 12. Obscured by Clouds 13. The Division Bell 14. The Endless River 15. A Momentary Lapse of Reason
The remix, absolutely! I didn't quite enjoyed listening to the original album, always thought that it sounded so dated and never really used to return to it. After the remix, some of the songs and actual Rick's keyboards playing just blew my mind. Fall in love ever since and it became my top 7.
The live stuff on Ummagumma is among the best stuff they've ever recorded and much better than the studio versions. If it were released alone I think it would be close to #1. But yeah the studio disc is not very good.
Love the video, but I would say that The Final Cut was every bit of a Roger Waters solo album every bit as A Momentary Lapse of Reason was a David Gilmour solo album, and rate them just above Ummagumma at the bottom. The Roger lead era (Dark Side to Animals apposed to the Roger take over period that followed ) was their finest, but my personal favourites are Meddle and Atom Heart Mother. For me The Wall lacks Rick Wrights input as much as The Division Bell lacks Rogers lyrical genius so I always rank those two albums just below the awesome rest of the 70’s stuff.
Certainly a tough call on the top 5 or 6 albums! Since the 2018 remix was released last year, I have been listening to Animals the most, followed by Wish You Were Here. I cannot get enough of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, such a great track. I guess that puts Dark Side at 3 for me (at least this year) 😀
My top 5 - Animals, Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Wish you were here, The Final Cut. The rest is good though with the exception of the crap from 2014.
For me the Pink Floyd I like begins with Meddle. My favorites ranking is: 1) Dark Side; 2) Meddle; 3) WYWH, 4) Animals; 5) Obscured By Clouds; 6) Division Bell; and 7) The Wall. The rest are take it or leave it in my opinion.
I suppose it all depends where you came into the story Personally it was via covers of It Would Be So Nice and Astronomy Domine by Captain Sensible and The Soft Boys. The first album I bought was The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. I was exploring the Monkees albums around the same time and 1967 being my birth year it will alwaya have fhe most interest to me I'd have to pick A Saucerful Of Secrets as my secind favourite snd More as my third. Cirrus Minor, Green Is The Colour and Cymbaline themselves are the heartbeat of that record and everything surrounding it makes it all the more worthwhile. I wss never keen on Dark Side or The Wall. They're too Roger Waters centric as are Animals and The Finsl Cut although somehow I prefer them to the other two. I perhaps go in order up to Obscured By Clouds then put Animals and Momentary Lapse next followed by The Final Cut.
Great ranking. Momentary was my first Floyd album, still in top3. Piper is easily the most interesting album, fantastic songs as are those on his solo records. Roger was a great lyricist, not so great that he should have recited his own lyrics on Barrett documentaries. Can't stand Final Cut and his whining, it's revolting. Atom Heart Mother, A Sauceful of Secrets are also excellent.
"Piper at the gates of dawn" stands out as their only really joyful album, and should have got a higher placing for that reason alone. The lyrics started to get darker once Roger took the helm. Having said that ( and I am probably alone in this opinion), "Grantchester Meadows" from Ummagumma is one of my top 10 favourite Floyd songs.
And Piper is the album where they created the pink floyd sound... those soundscapes and experimentation instrumentals are amazing. Syd was so ahead of everybody else.
1. The Wall 2. Animals 3. Wish You Were Here 4. The Dark Side of The Moon 5. The Division Bell 6. The Final Cut 7. A Momentary Lapse of Reason 8. Meddle 9. Atom Heart Mother 10. Obscured By Clouds 11. More 12. The Endless River 13. A Saucerful of Secrets 14. Ummagumma 15. The Piper at The Gates of Dawn
For me, they NEVER topped the “Piper”!! Yes, I know very well what I am talking about! For some reason, it is not quite appreciated here-and this, to my surprise! As for the “Dark Side”…certainly a milestone, but it can be tiring or boring, at moments.
Interesting…. My list would be pretty much the opposite of yours. Granted I am a big Psych fan, for me the best Pink Floyd stuff was when they had “The” in front of their name. 😉
My ranking is pretty far off from yours: 1) Ummagumma 2) Meddle 3) Animals 4) Piper At The Gates Of Dawn 5) More 6) Obscured By Clouds 7) Relics 8) Wish You Were Here 9) The Wall 10) Saucerful Of Secrets 11) Atom Heart Mother 12) Dark Side Of The Moon 13) The Final Cut 14) The Endless River 15) A Momentarily Lapse Of Reason 16) The Division Bell That's the best thing about music though, everyone has their own take. Animals without question!!!! The keyboard work by Rick and David Gilmour blazing solos especially the end of Pigs.
The newest Animals on vinyl sounds incredible.
It is! I was a little skeptical when it was first announced. I didn’t think it was possible to make Animals sound better than it already did, but the remix is a big improvement.
Mine: 1) WYWH 2) Animals 3) DSOTM 4) Amused To Death (yes, I know it´s Waters) 5) Meddle 6) The Wall

Division Bell is so underrated. It’s my second favorite album by them (after Dark Side) and it’s in my top ten albums of all time just barely kept out of my top five.
There´s a third Floyd song in that segment, "Hey Hey Rise Up" sung by Andriy Khlyvnyuk.
Awesome rank! I'd put Momentary above Atom, but pretty good list.
Pink Floyd never made a bad album. Astonishing actually, only the Beatles are on that level.

Animals will always be my favorite , but Dark Side is breathtaking. Dogs for me is the greatest song they ever wrote with High Hopes not far behind.
For me #1 The Wall #2 Animals #3 Dark Side of the Moon

Meddle number 1 for me. Final Cut is dead last
It was last for me for a very long time. It wasn’t until the last couple years that it started growing on me.
Your #1 is mine as well. One of the greatest of all time.

Animals for me.
