    Froome really felt the fatigue at the Giro, but still fair enough...1st and 3rd is way better than a double second Mr. Doumolin
    And i mean, his solo attack on the Colle delle Finestre is worth alone an entire season and has definitely put him amongst the greatest legends

      You can also say it ended in a 1-1 in 2018 because in the whole Tour Dumoulin was stronger and ended in front of him in the GC and at the Giro Dumoulin was not great and not bad, but Froome was just remarkable smart and strong in that stage 19 too win the Giro despite the time he lost due to the bad days...

    What annoys me is that so many people are acting that Thomas was a massive underdog. He was joint leader at the best team so clearly among the favourites.

    • @adamm8124
      @adamm8124 6 лет назад +6

      True, but hes also geraint thomas, the king of crashes, has never ridden as a GC contender before (always been a domestique for froome) and even though he was given "permission" to ride for himself he was still in reserve to back up froome if he had to until his form showed him as a favourite. He was up there but id call him an underdog compared to froome/domoulin/bardet/porte etc among the pre-race favourites

    • @GamerFlair
      @GamerFlair 6 лет назад +6

      I think people are making him out to be far more of an underdog then he was, but he was definately not plan A.
      To be honest, the most suprising thing is that Sky actually got it right this time. The last 2-3 times this situation happened they got it wrong. 2011 Vueta they threw away the race by continuing to back Wiggins when Froome was stronger. 2012 TdF they got away with it because Wiggins still won, but Froome was stronger and would have won if they had swapped leaders.
      Last year Landa was probably stronger and probably would have won, although it was to be fair still the right call to back Froome given his history vs Landa's and he still won relatively comfortably.
      Given how smooth everything went, I actually suspect Froome probably made the call all the way back on that first Alp stage to have Thomas swap to Prime and have him go backup, and they basically just played with everyone for a few days on letting everyone continue to worry about Froome whilst Thomas grabbed easy time by people not taking him seriously.

    • @Ewane
      @Ewane 6 лет назад +1

      Adam M he wasn't the outright favourite but he was still up their.He was a GC guy on Giro 2017,well rested,and being King of Crashes meant we didn't know his GC potential.

    • @Ewane
      @Ewane 6 лет назад +2

      GamerFlair I agree with you on Vuelta 2011 and Tour 2012.Last year I think Froome was still stronger,particularly early on, and LANDA gained a lot of time in a break on Stage 13 because of his earlier losses.

    • @TheCRSIN
      @TheCRSIN 6 лет назад +1

      Noone thought Thomas was a massive underdog... That statement is wrong, they all knew how good he was. All of them were just clinched by the duo riding tactics of Sky which made them to have to choose between following Froome or marking Thomas, and then the obvious choice was made. They couldn't beat both at the same time so they all chose to see Froome as the front man. So probably the thing that annoyed you was the fact that both Thomas and Froome ride for the same team...

    Let's look at it this way:
    In terms of GTs
    THOMAS hasn't done one since Tour 2017,where he withdrew on Stage 9
    DUMOULIN did the 2018 Giro and won the 2017 Giro leading up to this
    FROOME won the 2017 Tour,2017 Vuelta and 2018 Giro building up to this.
    Having won the last 3 GTs,fatigue was going to show.
    Also,remember when QUINTANA tried 4 GTs in a row he only won one,and was 11th in the last of them.

    It's amazing how Dumoulin said that Roglic was cheating when Roglic beat him on the decent with a car in front of him but Dumoulin did the same thing in an earlier stage.

    • @waybright1992
      @waybright1992 6 лет назад +11

      which he got penalized for and roglic didnt ?
      if you want to call them "the same thing" they should be ruled the same way right ?

    • @philliplovesthwkiel
      @philliplovesthwkiel 6 лет назад +3

      It wasn't the same,Dumoulin used his own team car,fully on purpose,where Roglic was behind a neutral camera moto,which could've gone anywhere,but chose to stay in front of him. Roglic did nothing wrong,he just rode the fastest line which was the motos line as well

    • @el_vee_ee
      @el_vee_ee 6 лет назад +7

      Which was wat Dumoulin has said about 20 times, even with his emotional outburst right after the finish of that stage. He also said that Roglic did nothing wrong, just that he was powerless closing the gap to Roglic because of the motorbike.
      Anyway, no comparison at all.

    • @rolandlundall133
      @rolandlundall133 6 лет назад

      Hi.I think you missed the interview where Dumoulin said that Roglic got help from the motobike and that he was pissed off about it.He even showed it with his hand explaination.But he forgot that he got help also even those he got a penalty for it,it was his was car.I think it was just a case of sour grapes.

    • @el_vee_ee
      @el_vee_ee 6 лет назад

      Somm Man then show me the interview, because I'm Dutch and I've seen plenty and in all of them he says he respects Primoz, he admits Primoz was the strongest rider at that moment, but that he only blames the motor rider.
      Again, you can't compare somebody cheating to make time up after an incident (they all do in these circumstances, but they know the risk you take when doing so and he accepted the penalty) to somebody having an advantage over his opponents and winning the stage and threatening Tom's podium. Of course it was a case of sour grapes. Sour grapes also seem to be the only reason to compare these moments.

      EnjoyU2 Tilburg Pls elaborate. They just told the truth, because Dumoulin just kept losing those sprints during the Tour to Thomas and he underestimated Thomas. And they show Dumoulin tried and was in a pretty good shape for someone who rode the Giro just before that...

      AOR SmokingPuppy841 A small amount of hope can make a big difference... And it may have been a different as Thomas could’ve fallen due to the pressure (hypothetically spoken, although the chance is there that it could’ve changed a significant amount)

    WTF? Which, Thomas or Froome? Or, wait Thomas for Froome, or winning Thomas and Froome.
    Yes, Thomas was up with the pace on nearly every stage unlike Chris. Poor Froome had accidents, more accidents, pepper spray, crowd-funded hit pieces and antagonistic whining French to contend with. Good to see GT win tho.
