Have always loved your pieces Cosmo, great to have you back. I'm a bit surprised however this time that you made no mention of Sagan speaking on his radio twice just before his attack, and I think it was a brilliantly timed and planned attack and not a roll off the front, almost accidental as you suggest. The Bora team manager said as much in a post race interview. Sagan seemed to be looking around a lot when Van Avermaet attacked and was straight on to the radio, perhaps noticing that there was no Quick Step rider in the top dozen to fifteen riders as Van Avermaet was chased down. Terpstra alluded to this in his post race interview too. Watching Sagan's body language just before the attack I think it was a beautiful move and a deserving race winning move.

I was about to write the same. You can watch Spanish version of the race on youtube with Contador as commentator. He says 5 sec before Sagan attacks that he is attacking (I don' speak Spanish but understand that bit ok). So saying that he got to the front 'almost by mistake' just is not truth.

If it was Sky or Ineos rider it'd be mentioned but never for Sagan.

Now Eurosport partially own GCN you should put these out under that brand, it would get so many more views.

What was Silvain Dillier thinking in the last 15k of that race? And who was his DS? Between them, tactically so inept, it looked like they'd struck a deal with Sagan. (I know that is unlikely in the modern era, before someone corrects me.)

    • @glenschaillie2435

I think he might just have been happy with the second place and working with Sagan was the best way to achieve that. If he would have just sat on the wheels, they might have been recaptured and Dillier would probably not have finished on the podium. Okay, he could have stopped pulling Sagan from about 5km from the line, but even then, I can't see a scenario (not involving a crash or mechanical) in which Dillier beats Sagan in the sprint. There might have been some other (high risk - high reward) tactics he could have used, but personally I don't think it was suspect or dumb to keep working with Sagan, also considering the fact that Dillier up to that point had only won 1 Giro stage and the national championship and will probably never be in the top 10 of any Monument again.
Also, I absolutely love it that I am not the only one (re)watching these right now!

@@glenschaillie2435 Wholeheartedly agree with you, Dillier has nothing to lose by working together with Sagan. He simply was securing second place and if some mishaps (like mechanical failure or tire problem) happen to Sagan then he set his opportunity on first place.

This video is really a joke. It should be banned because there is not even one second of attention for Michael Goolaerts. This rider died during the 2018 Paris Roubaix. Maybe show a little more respect. When a stupid mechanical problem of Sagan can make the video,......well, i say no more.

The video title says "how the race was won" so that's were the focus is. All sport media, including Eurosport, gave attention to the tragic incident.
