If you are searching for a video showing the patina on the Hamilton mechanical khaki field 38mm bronze search no more! I have patina'ed mine and it looks just GORGEOUS!
Great video. I was just given this watch as a gift from a friend today and absolutely love it. I still have an old Kahki but it’s been damaged from rock climbing many years ago. It was interesting to learn more about it from your video. Great stuff.
Hey David, awesome gift you got there 😉 enjoy it and take care!
Great review 👏 thank you for addressing this whole issue with the Hamilton, I have been sitting on the fence for a long time on this watch, you have given me more food for thought 😀
Thanks John and glad this could be helpful to you. I was the same! Take care
The Tudor full bronze is also a beautiful watch with a beautiful patina !
Good video and I think I’ll by the Hamilton Bronze too!
Yes!! I agree with you on the Tudor Bronze, I was highly hesitating… may be the next one? Check out Christopher Ward’s collection of sub bronze watches - I keep an eye on those too!
It is really nice to see someone appreciating bronze watch with this much passion. And i really like the BB on your wrist with that 007 Nato strap. I have the same watch and same strap, so I'll try it asap :D
😃 thanks for your feedback! Yes try that setup with the Tudor BB 😋 cheers
Great video. Love the patina on this watch; if I went bronze, I'm considering this Hamilton. Look forward to more content!
Thanks a lot David! Glad you liked it and stay tuned for more 😃
Great review man, I like your delivery and style.. very chill, informative, and no nonsense. Was definitely considering this watch - looks amazing in Bronze. I heard they made the buckle in Ti because it's a skin-contact piece, and those surfaces (like the case-back) are better suited to be something other than Bronze... not sure if some people are allergic to Bronze, or sensitive to it, or something along those lines. Thanks for the informative review!!
Hi there! Thanks a lot for your message and feedback - much appreciated!
Thought so on the buckle - makes sense indeed.
Take care!
A bmjf
Really enjoyed your review - great no nonsense delivery 👍
Thanks a lot - much appreciated
Great review!!! looking forward to more watch content. This is an amazing watch and a all around bargain. Rugged, casual, functional, and looks amazing with some patina. Bronze is a humble metal and it's really the workhorse of metal's. I will get one this year hopefully. My grandfather worked in the second largest copper/bronze mine in North America. Drove a CAT 797F mining dumpster trucks. My uncle was a geologist who excavated for copper/bronze and other precious metals/minerals. So to me there's some family connection to bronze.
Amazing story and connection to bronze!
I agree with u - loving this watch!
Take care and thanks for sharing!
Very nice Indeed! Thanks for the update on patina, it looks very good!
Thanks!
Fantastic looking watch can’t wait for mine to patina
Bet it would look amazing with a green or chocolate dial 👍
Nice review!
You’ll love it!
Had a LOT of wrist time lately 😉 take care
Thanks for the look man, keep up the good work
Thanks a lot - much appreciated!
Hey man, love the video! Just subscribed! Been wearing a Khaki Automatic for the last few months, and I've been looking for a review of the bronze mechanical
Awesome watch too ou have there!
Hope this was informative for you and thanks a lot for subscribing 😊 take care
Amazing watch 😎🤩
Good video! Like the look of the watch.
Thanks Anthony!
This one pops so much more than the regular metal one
I agree!
Great review! I love mine!
Thanks 😊
I bought my today and I already love it
Awesome - enjoy!
Perfect look !
I agree! 😉
Probably the best looking patina I’ve seen. It looks like it belongs on thst Hamilton
Thanks Kenny, yes I love it SO much, it looks vintagy and with that leather strap (or other nato straps for that matter) it really fits fantastically. Take care
Great video! Thanks for showing what this watch looks like with the patina. I think you hit the pros and cons on the money. And on a sidenote, congrats on the amount of views your videos are getting, I know what it’s like to grow a channel. Therefore, I will help you out and subscribe!
Thanks a lot Jeremy - much appreciated!
I like the bronze a lot and think it’s suits me but trying to decide between this one and a Hamilton Murph when I buy my first nice Swiss watch early next year. I like both of them a lot.
Those are 2 good watches indeed!
This guy loveeeee the word PATINA ..
thanks for the video .. just order it .. keep the work going
Haha 😂 awesome!! Enjoy your new time piece 😊😉
@@watch_luver I’m a photographer my self .. I have watched many reviews about the watch but from the video it seems bigger ( the 38mm one ) that what it is because everyone is using wide angle lenses very close .. I feel y video really help to see the real dimension of the watch .. 👍
Hello,
Nice review ! Superb image quality and voice flow
You got yourself a new subscriber and definitely deserver more !
Am I right by saying that I heard the slightest "Swiss-French" accent ??
Anyway, cheers from Fribourg 🙂
Haha! Awesome - thanks for watching and subscribing!
Eh oui, canton de Vaud 😏😁
Thanks for the video! I was really curious how the patina looked on this watch.
You’re most welcome
Hi man, I must admit that bronze might be the only good excuse for fauxtina, the watch looks great.
Hello James, yes i agree. Some other watch makers did pull off fauxtina but bronze looks just gorgeous. Take care!
Nice review. Please do another.
Thanks Robin - will do!
Sam Martin sells a variety of quality bronze buckles, I bought a couple to put on my straps that came with stainless
Nice! I’ll check it out!
Nice Vid! About to get the Bronze / Brown Baltic Aquascaphe - just not sure yet if I like patina or not ;-)
Oh nice! I’d love to try that one specifically 😁😉
I love this piece but have a couple questions: does the oxidation process risk staining lighter coloured clothing? And I really like the patina on this watch but when I look up other watches, they show up very green/blueish. Is this likely to happen on this one in the long run or is it very specific to the specific environment it is kept in?
Hello Sam,
Didn’t have any issues with light clothing - once the bronze is dry you should have stains. Patina wise, I saw one little blue spot yesterday- which I like. Bronze being a material and alloy that changes all the time, you can clean it anytime and make it almost as good as new (hence the beauty of it). There are specific environments that can make it patina faster but I let you look online what these can be (much easier for you). Cheers!
Nice selection of watches you have there 👍👍👍.
I have a Tudor BB too but…. In bronze 43 mm 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, and I want that Hami in steel, the green version, maybe in christmas 🤔🤔.
I think there is no necessary to force patina, just enjoy the age process.
Greetings from Mexico
Thanks for your comment Raziel! Lovely bronze watch you got there! Ok the patina I know it’s a slow « patiner » 😁 and I wanted to show you guys how’d look with patina but I might clean it now and let it be 😊
Take care!
This watch looks great. I'm really having a hard time choosing my first watch. I love this watch, but also the black PVD khaki looks badass IMO. There's a couple others I'm looking at and It's a struggle deciding. I just don't know if I can justify paying $300 more just to get the bronze over the PVD or stainless steel
Hello Gabe, I hear you!
I went for bronze for 2 reason:
1) I love how it ages and how it will never be the same as anyone else’s.
2) it was the first bronze watch from Hamilton.
Of course the looks drive me crazy but I also liked the looks of the other ones.
It really is the taste that will determine which one you chose, but I really don’t regret spending the extra cash for the bronze - well worth it.
Hope that could help - take care
I wouldnt go bronze on first watch. Hamilton is a great choice tho
what did you end up getting? i have a the black pvd and love it, downsides are the loom is poor and no anti reflective on the sapphire. other than that great watch. bronze is in my wishlist too
@@faketoothtommy I ended up getting the black PVD. Agreed, the lume is poor but other than that I love the watch. It’s now my most affordable watch and I love it just as much as my more expensive pieces
Great video. It’s been over a year though, I’d love to see a follow up video to see how it looks now!
Thanks and great idea!! Stay tuned
Fantastic patina with terrific photography that showed it very well. I have 2 bronze watches that I let naturally patina for a little more than 1.5 years but if I were to get one of these Hammies I'd want to achieve what you have here.
When you put your watch in the bag with the hard boiled eggs, did you allow the egg to touch the watch? Did you purposely 'apply' the mashed egg all over your watch or just sit it next to the egg allowing the vapor to create the patina?
Hello Adam, thanks for the message!
No, no need to touch the watch with the eggs, what is important is to have the eggs hot and steamy, to seal the bag well and to have the yellow part of the eggs well exposed. The fumes of the eggs is what’s important here and what makes the bronze patina. Take care
@@watch_luver Awesome, Thanks! Just wanted to make sure as I think you mentioned running your watch under water after the egg treatment.
Love the khaki bronze, can you show some other strap pairings for this watch
Funny you’d say that - I thought about doing a video with some other NATO straps yesterday 😉
@@watch_luver there is not much content on this watch, and a lot of interest please make more videos. Also I'm not the biggest fan of natos can you do some pairings with conventional straps too
This Hamilton Bronze patinas very differently to my BB58 Bronze. I'm not sure which one do I prefer more 😅😅
Damn! Don’t tell me more about the BB 58 bronze cause I might go buy it RIGHT NOW!! That’s the next one I’ve got my eye on… so so so beautiful!!
Take care 😉
great video man! I love the Patina on the hammy. I was actually thinking about picking this one up. Just a quick question; where did you buy your Nato strap from? it looks really nice! Greetings from Vienna :)
Hi there! Thanks and glad you enjoyed the video and the watch 😉
I made a separate video about the straps (this one is the one that comes with the watch when you buy it), check out on my channel.
Take care!
@@watch_luver Ah Sorry, I didn’t see that. But I’m also curious about the Nato Strap on the Tudor. Is that also from Archer?
Yes, it’s also from archer 😉
Very nice Hamilton..what is your experience with the H-50 movement I've read many people have problems (broken mainsprings..handwinding failures...)!!
Hello there,
Never had a problem with this particular model and movement. It loses about 9 seconds per day so am pretty darn happy! Take care
Hi again. That strap seems to have a great patina also. Looks really oiled/greasy in some areas. Did you do anything special with that strap to give it a hard worn look?
Hello Adam, thanks. No no special treatment- literally 3 weeks of normal wear 😊
Take care!
Great watch, great review, great channel! One question: Does the bronze rub off on clothes or skin? I heard, that it sometimes does (when you sweat for example)
Thanks a bunch Thomas!
Yes, bronze can and will slightly rub off on clothes and skin with sweat. This one has a titanium case back so no worries there tho.
Cheers
for most of the few in the know? we are all waiting for hamilton too upgrade their atm on the khaki mechanical and lug to lug problem...
Yup 👍🏼 exactly
If they’d anodized the titanium buckle bronze it would’ve elevated the watch. Saying that, it’s still a great watch and the bronze patina is unmatched
I very much agree with you on both counts! Take care
Hi, I was wondering if the patina on this watch will stick to your hand? As far as I know, a bronze watch of the emperor rudder will stick to the hand, I do not know whether this will only, so I want to ask the blogger
No it won’t, the back is make of titanium to avoid leaving marks on the skin - and since no skin contact there is not problem.
How long do you think it would take to patina the watch to this point naturally? Has it gotten much different since you created this video?
I would say months or even years! But depends on your environment. Mine looks less “harsh” now and more subtle in terms of patina and I love it. Cheers
Great video, this is one of the best patinas I've ever seen, I absolutely love the look of this. I got the Hamilton bronze as well and I'm wondering what method you used for your forced patina? Hoping to replicate similar results
Thanks. I say it in the video how I did it. But basically you the watch in a plastic bag and together with hot boiled eggs that you smash inside but no contact with the watch. The fumes will do the job. Make sure you keep an eye on it and not longer than roughly half an hour. Cheers
@@watch_luver thanks a ton, appreciate it a lot
Nice !
Thanks!
Loved the video! do you think the watch would fit on my 15.5cm wrist?
Hey Jacob thanks. Yes should be ok. I do advice to go check it in a AD thought before buying it to test it. Cheers!
The patina on this watch is beautiful, it looks amazing! And can You or the viewer tell me whether my Seiko Presage SSA426J1 covered with Rose Gold galvanization will also acquire a similar overtone over time or should I rather count on discoloration from creams, sweat, oils or hand disinfectants (since the latter it has become visible discoloration on the coating). I'd appreciate an answer because it's really bugging me!
Hey there, thanks!
No, galvanized rose gold won’t patina the same way as bronze. Bronze is very particular in terms of patina and you won’t get the same. There will be discoloration for the most part but it won’t be as pretty as bronze for sure (I mean some people hate when bronze patinas so it’s a matter of viewpoint really). Take care!
@@watch_luver Thank you for Your answer:) Regards!
How has the movement held up? Been quite a few question marks on it, wondering on people's views on this as I really like the watch
Honestly great so far, no issues whatsoever. Good time keeping and works without a flaw. Not my daily runner either, but for the use I had it worked just fine. Take care
Great vid, thank you, what’s the lug to lug measurement?
Thanks! 44mm of lug-to-lug
Cheers
@@watch_luver thanks, bought one :)
You forgot to mention that this watch, any bronze watch, can be protected in many different ways very different results. There are extensive articles on this online.
Ver true! Thanks for bringing it up - cheers!
Where did you get your James Bond nato for your Tudor?
I got it on Amazon.de from a brand called « Sniper Bay »
Take care
I have the same and my bronze looks cleaner and is evenly weathered. Did you force the patina?
Hello Billy, yes i forced the patina (I mention how in the video if you’re interested to know how). Wanted to show the community (and myself of course 😀) how I’d look with more patina.
Take care!
Stunning looking patina indeed although I was a bit disappointed that you had to force it and it's not naturally developed over time. In general your review is great though, good information and stories, great delivery and nice macro shots. Also well edited. Looking forward to your future videos!
At 1:48, when you wind the watch, after you let go of the crown, it spins backwards. What's that about? My steel Khaki Mechanical doesn't do that. In fact, no watch I ever handled did that. Kinda wish I had the bronze version though after your review, well done!
Also, please don't get tempted by the RUclips clickbait stuff like the capitalization that you use in the title. Just pump out quality content on topics that interest people and you'll grow nicely.
Hello, thanks a lot for the message and feedback.
Yes, the patina is amazing! I understand the potential disappointment, but it was either waiting some 10 years or so before doing a video (and most importantly I bought the watch because of the patina looks!) or forcing it. The good news here tho is that you can always clean it off and make it new-looking again and let it age.
-
I know it does spin backwards, not sure what that is. I'd have to get that checked out - never saw it either in a mechanical watch. Not necessarily an expert in movements but I have friends here in Switzerland that work in the watch making industry so I'll ask them. If you are able to get this watch for yourself you won't be disappointed.
-
Clickbait-wise, I like to emphasise some parts in my titles as an overall. I am mainly a pro photographer (I have 3 other big channels) and I normally do this in my channels. I do take note thought! :)
-
Again, thanks a lot for watching and am glad you enjoyed it. See you in the next one and take care
Coming back to you on the crown point you brought up. I checked with a friend who’s a professional watch maker and he said it is totally normal (he went into details but to keep it short it happens on some models and it’s perfectly ok 👌🏼)
@@watch_luver Oh, thanks for checking and for replying, very interesting. Good luck with the channel, eagerly awaiting your next video.
@@watch_luver I don't care, how did you do it? Very interested.
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for this video! Could you share a source about the alloy they use ? I searched the whole net and couldn't find. I agree with what you say: this seems to patina slower than classic Cusn8
Thanks for watching! I found this about the alloy: Cu = 91.78% / Sn = 8.18%
I typed “hamilton khaki filed bronze alloy” on google.
Cheers!
@@watch_luver I found that too, but this is not compatible with the idea that they chose an alloy that does not patina fast. Cusn8 is standard bronze alloy, the most used in watches. Every site that mentions this Cusn8 is not the official site :/
I see! Y’a that is all o found as well. If you search on RUclips for the Hamilton CEO interview that’s where I found that information.
@@watch_luver Thanks! I managed to find the video : ruclips.net/video/0X6vgz6rVtU/видео.html.
They start to talk about the watch at 6:00. CEO goes in the details about patina at 9:00, but does not mention anything about slowing it down with the alloy. However, at 10:15, he talks about avoiding too much oxydation, but this is only about the titanium case back.
If Indiana Jones wore a wristwatch, this would be it
Absolutely!
Why the hell would they not make the buckle bronze as well? Damnit....
I know man…
How did you force the patina?
I explain it in the video
hi
I am Comming from youre photography Chanel.
regards,
That’s awesome! 🤩
Bell 'orologio 👍😀😀😀
Si! 😙
That forced patina is impressive its the dirtiest bronze watch I've ever seen. Well done.
😉
Very happy with it - and this mode REALLY looks impressive with the patina. Take care
does it have a snap on caseback?
Hum… not sure 🤔
If you have a small wrist, and the lug length is a concern, wear it on a bund strap. The bund makes it wear as if you have a larger wrist.
Very true 👍🏼
patina does not stain clothes?
It might - especially in summer. But not that much honestly
Where are you getting the idea that 5 bar water resistance only means you can submerge it in the sink? You should be able to submerge it up to 50m in water with no issue. Showering would be fine.
Do some online research. You could go for a swim but since there is no screw down crown (normally found on 10bar up watches) you might get water in - at your own risk. It even says « short periods of swimming - no diving or snorkeling ». How do you go 50m under water without dive or snorkel?
Take for example 3bar (30 meters) it says « everyday use - no swimming ». So how do you go down 30 meters then? See what I mean? Sure you technically could shower with it - but for the price of the watch, it’s construction and the materials I would highly advise against it.
非常棒的分享,感謝你,我也打算入手此錶款了
Thanks you and glad the video could be helpful to you. You’ll love it!
Can you change the strap, for a non nato strap?
A leather strap u mean? Sure 👍🏼
@@watch_luver Yes, just never seen this watch with anything but a nato on it
@@watch_luver and I noticed they had removed the holes for the drilled lugs, only on the bronze version
@@Fetishmale Yup, that's correct, no holes anymore. You can put leather 2 piece straps on it, am just not so much a fan of it cause I change my straps sometimes 2-3 times a day depending on what I wear (unless I have a metal bracelet on the watch) so NATO is the most convenient setup for that (also if you get your strap wet you can swap it without a problem vs the 2 pieces strap that needs a tool each time). Cheers
50m water resistant is good enough for a swim. don't baby the watch.
You know, I believe it is fine, but I just won’t risk it. That been said, am PRETTY sure nothing will happen. Am more of a « GShock » type of guy when it comes to swimming 😉
Urine is a great, and green (even thouhg is yellow) way to get a patina.
Interesting 🧐 thanks for sharing
Titanium is hyperalergenic where as bronze can react with skin the same as copper
Makes sense. The buckle does not touch the skin usually though… not sure 🤔
Almost 1k and no anti reflecting coating
Not everyone wants that… I think they kinda wanna keep it “old school” and the sapphire crystal is almost border line honestly… anywho cheers!
Good review and nice watch. Not sure I'd want to shower with a leather strapped watch. Frankly, I don't need to tell the time in the shower.
Thanks Roger. Yes definitely don’t wanna shower with a leather strap 🤦🏻😊 but a nato can also look nice sometimes 😏 cheers
no sale=a dirty watch + low atm ?
Hum?
Not a dirty watch - needs upkeep (that’s the downside of bronze).
Low ATM - I agree with that
And it really looks...Sexxxy!
😏 right?
Would buy it if was 100m WR, a shame.
I know right? I wish it was - really
So sad to see Hamilton cut corners on this $800+ watch with the buckle. It should be bronze. It is not touching the skin more than the side of the watch case or crown itself for example. It is a balony to say they put Ti buckle because of the buckle touching the skin. If the strap is on the wrist, the buckle barely touch the skin anyway. Poor design decision for sure.
I totally agree with you - the hardware should have been bronze indeed - sad
Take care
@@watch_luver Thanks bro
I would not call it cutting corners. Titanium is not exactly cheaper than bronze so its more an intentional choice than cost cutting.
It was made this way to help prevent allergic reactions with it's wearers. This is the same reason the case back was not bronze also. If you knew much about metals you'd know many people are sensitive to bronze. This was not done to intentionally cut corners, and in the long run is not cost effective at all by using titanium in it's place.
It's a welcome example of cooperate responsibility, and brand integrity. This information has all been made public via Hamilton. I'd have hoped you would have reviewed, let alone this poor influencer, this information before making such a negative comment . My point being maybe do 10 minute worth of research on your own, rather than depending on RUclips for information, or as is the case here misinformation.. which sadly is far to often the case. Do this little bit of work on your own before you comment on something like this and continue the spread of bad information. ✌
I don’t get how the WR is such a dealbreaker for people. Do you want to go swimming with your watch that bad? And who showers with their watch on? You also wear socks and a beanie in the shower? And fyi, I know people who regularly go swimming with their Speedmasters on. 50m is fine for surface lever swimming.
Also, I’d recommend not wearing the watch (or any watch) on a leather NATO strap, since it will make the watch sit higher off of your wrist. Get a regular two piece strap and it will wear way better.
For me, the WR is important and yes, I always shower with my watch on. Be it a Rolex, a G-Shock or a Tudor - I do do that.
50m is fine but if anything happens it’s on you (if you read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions).
True on the NATO strap, it does make it bulkier and more raised, I agree with you. I love that style of it but doesn’t sit as well as a 2 piece strap.
Cheers
Why bother paying that much for a Khaki - which is basically an imitation of their vintage GG-W-113/MIL-W-3818B, when you can pick up an original for about $450, or less?
As the for the opinion of the crystal, the sort of person that would buy into one of these, would no doubt enjoy looking at their own reflection.
Thanks for watching and for your feedback 👍🏼
If you are doing this channel for real, and I think you should, than you gotta take care of those hands. Lotion and keep the nails clean
Thanks for your feedback 👍🏼
I dont get the whole patina thing. To me it just looks like a watch that needs to be cleaned .
It’s a style - some like it for the old looks and vintage apparence - some don’t.
Take care
Why not Titanium?)))
Titanium the best
Very nice too 😉
@@watch_luver )))))
38 mm is too small.
Maybe for some
No
38mm works great for my 7.5" wrist. But I also wear a lot of vintage watches that are between 33 and 36mm.
That is not nice patina.
Personal taste 👍🏼
