The best thing I've learned about having a 07 2.5i is its much more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow

And probably makes a better daily driver anyways too haha. Not to say a WRX or STi are bad daily drivers but.... that gas mileage benefit though lololololol

If i were to get a first car, i would prefer to just get a naturally aspirated vehicle first to get the feel

I've daily driven both a 2.5i and STI. I can tell you the gas is so much better when driving the 2.5i. It also has more than enough power for a daily driver.

I drive an 07 Impreza with 355k. I bought it at 330k because it blew a timing belt going down interstate at 75 mph because of failed timing belt tensioner. I’m a mechanic and did my research. Everyone seemed to think the engine needed to be replaced but after inspection of the piston heads and bent valves since it is interference engine I decided to just replace all 16 bent valves, valve seals, head gaskets and a timing belt kit. I had to reseat the valve guides as they had pushed out of their original position that caused some exhaust valves to not to seat firmly. It was risky because I couldn’t find info on anyone doing this and it working out. So far so good I love the car handles and drives great. Just took it on a road trip no problems. I recommend this car

I love my 06 2.5i and I actually enjoy driving it more than my cousin's WRX. The throttle response is extremely linear and the engine happily revves to the redline. With a turbo you get the lag then boosted up until you hit the speed limit or corner.

I have a silver 5 speed '06 Outback Sport Special Edition wagon and appreciate this review. I've had it since last October and got it with 85k miles on it. Agree with everything in this review. It's no miata, but it's a ton of fun for a naturally aspirated car and has good weight distribution and with a whole lot more practicality. I've always loved how the wagons from 02-07 look, so much more than the sedans [sorry ;)]. You're right about the universal subie love. I have friends with WRXs but I still get respect just for having a clean older subaru wagon.
Glad I'm not the only one that has the same brake feel. At least now I know that's just how they are. Was wondering if mine needed to be serviced with all that pedal travel and sponginess. Is your brake brace for the master cylinder? I've heard that and a pich stop upgrade are pretty welcome. I'm also on stock suspension but would like to look for some conservative upgrades; koni struts, fender braces and slightly thicker sway bars.

15:45 I can completely relate. I floored it during the rain at an open intersection... not knowing there was a sheriff heading my way... and I lost traction and was sideways probably for a full 2 seconds but nothing :) I probably would have been hella fined if I had a much faster car. Like this man says, it's so much fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

The carfax/service records had oil changes every 3k miles and all proper service of timing belts and head gasket etc at the right intervals. I have never seen such extensive records before. It was a 1 owner who kept it stock save for a catback exhaust that has a slight rumble but nothing too crazy. I spent the 9 because of the service records and the quality of the vehicle. I know im 1 year late on the comment but .. Not really its not the same block
2.5i has a open deck EJ253 block and the sti has a semi open deck (not closed but still) sti has lower compression ratio (that lets room for way more boost ) sti can handle 20lbs of boost on stock internals and the 2.5i can only hold max 5psi (above that you can blow up some stuff) besides all those things and the 6 speed manual trans that can hold up to 600hp and the electronic Diferential that you can choose to close or open with a button and some brakes and suspention maybe even the drive shaft i guess they are the same car lol … im a proud owner of a 2.5i btw (i had an sti before tho)
