Yellow Monster Bugger - articulated streamer fly tying

- Lean, mean and with a color that make large trout go bananas :0) Slimline articulated streamer fly, that makes a good alternative to the more compact sculpin style articulated streamers. It's an easy tie, the materials are cheap and it's a killer (even though we probably release most of the fish anyway ;0)

Wow I can't believe I didn't comment on this, I must have been shy or new to the channel. Floating Cities fits the airy description of the pattern as you said. Nice to go back and see your older format. Awesome pattern. Worthy of 100,000 + views. Thanks my friend.
Thanks Joe. Yeah it is kind of funny to see the old videos. This one is ok. We do things differently now - but i guess it's a natural process. Some of my very first videos sucks, but at least they help visualize the progress. Cheers my friend, Michael :0)
@@MichaelJensensAngling I wouldn't say they suck, all the patterns are great. I've learned a lot of patterns and techniques from you, plus your knowledge of flies, fly tiers, history, and fishing in general is awesome. You handle all comments with grace, never saying your way is best, always offering what works from your experience. Your blog is awesome, people should visit it, I should do so more often - I've barely scratched the surface.
I love film, your videos check all the boxes for me, being both informative and entertaining. Speaking of which, check out Jackie Venson. I watched her band last night on Austin City Limits. Excellent guitarist and vocalist, imho, in the blues genre.
Take care buddy!
@@joeduca8582 Thanks buddy. You continue to inspire me. As a fisherman as well as a lover of rock, blues and other equally important matters. Now with Jackie Venson. Man, she is one wild stratocaster slinging kitten. Fabulous energi.
Cheers, Michael :0)
:o)
@@MichaelJensensAngling Yep! Awesome! You're welcome! Cheers!
Awesome to say the least, all the best Pete from Scotland .
Thanks a lot, Pete. All the best to you :0)
Amazing pattern; Thanks for sharing. Can't lie, that music, as enjoyable as it was, put me to sleep!
Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you had a good sleep.
Cheers Michael.
A fantastic tie-like a circus peanut on steroids! nice and neat wraps, tight lines.
Thanks a lot, redshaftedflicker. Tight lines to you as well :0)
Nice pattern. I like that it's simple and the materials are relatively inexpensive.
Thx a lot. Sometime less is more :0)
you are an inspiration. Thanks
Thanks a lot for your feedback, Phillip. Tight lines, Michael :0)
Awesome work
Thanks a lot. cheers, Michael :0)
wow kudos a nice tie
Thanks a lot, Mark :0)
I liked that speed thanks brother
And thanks a lot for your feedback :0)
Man nice tie, my best pattern is white gartside streamer, going to try these thanks for video
Thanks you for your feedback, Rudy :0)
Beautiful! That's a real pig bait, for sure. I'm thinking of maybe using bunny strip instead of maribou. But, will try it both ways. TYVM
And thank you for your feedback, Gerald. A bunny strip would work great, but give a more fat and solid appearance. The Monster Bugger is more airy and transparent. I do a lot of bunny style flies as well, though. They are great producers. Tight lines, Michael :0)
Nice tie brother !
Thanks a lot Joey :)
Nice pattern!
Thanks a lot, Robbie :0)
First of all sorry for my english =) GEEeeeezzzz thats Hot ! tanks alot for sharing . I am at my second winter fly tying and thats for sure i Am trying that one !! Friendly yours have à great christmas time !! woww
Hi Kevin, Thanks a lot for your nice comment. I am so happy to hear you like my fly, and that you have taken up fly tying. It's a fabulous feeling catching fish on your own flies. So give it a shot. Happy Christmas to you and your family. Tight lines, Michael :0)
Nice and not too fussy,Larry Dahlberg said : if you spend more than 10 min. on a streamer, you're waisting time, these fit perfectly in those 10 min. (with some practice 😉)I use them for Northern pike (tied on slightly bigger hooks) I like the Bacon Snack too. Greetings from Belgium!
Hi prwcstr, Thanks a lot. And sure Larry was right - though I have to speed up my game to tie a Dahlberg Diver in 10 minutes :0) I´m a big fan of Larry Dahlberg.
Tight lines, Michael
Nice man 👍👍
Thanks a lot :0)
Nice one
Thanks a lot, Benjamin. Cheers, Michael :0)
Amazing Pattern. I can't wait till I get to tying these bad boys. Also, what's the music playing? It's so soothing. Many thanks.
Thanks a lot, Alvaro. Glad to hear, that you will give the Yellow Monster Bugger a swing. Music is Floating Cities by Kevin MacLeod. Tight Lines, Michael :0)
Really cool. Suddenly I’m actually thinking of tying some articulated flies. How does it hold up without a reinforcing rib for the schlappen?
My local waters have some toothy critters lurking.
Thanks Paul. Initially I tied the Yellow Monster Bugger for trout, but it has proven itself effective for all predators. For trout I feel that the Schlappen hold up very well, since the stem is protected by the fat body material. For pike, musky and saltwater critters a rib will make the fly much more durable. Tight lines, Michael :0)
Michael Jensen You’re probably right. I mean, trout have teeth. Thanks for the reply and the cool pattern!
@@paulallen7651Your welcome :0)
Nice fly, Unfortunately I could not fish with it unless the hook in the front were either cut off or a paddington shank were used. Only one hook per fly for us here in Maine. Two hooks for catch and release only is not allowed. Looks like it has enough movement for the fish to go for so I will tie it and cut off the front hook. No lead here either, brass, tungsten but no lead. It was killing all the Loons and contaminating the water. All the best and thanks for sharing. Sean
Hi Sean. Thank you for your comment. I know rules and regulations aren't the same everywhere - but this fly will fish just fine without the front hook bend/point. So bring out your pliers. All the best, Michael :0)
elaborate very skilled sir i'd eat it if it was grilled
Thanks Jerry. I would take a good steak instead any day ;0) Cheers, Michael :0)
Awesome job. Would love to see the action it in the water.
Thanks Brian. I will keep that i mind. Cheers, Michael :0)
Cool fly. Why do you attach the eyes under hook eye instead of on top? So it doesn’t ride hook point up?
Hi and thanks for your feedback. I takes a pair of really heavy eyes to turn this hackled fly upside down, since it has two hook bends to counteract the weight of the eyes. Much easier to do with a fly, that has a wing. That's why i went for the better balance with the hooks pointing down. Cheers, Michael :0)
Thanks for the insight
I'd eat it!!
Thats is amazing pattern. What camera do you use?
Thx, Oliver. I use a Canon Eos 700D or an Eos 650D DSLR for my videos :0)
Thanks.. If I can ask, which lens do you use?
Hi Oliver. Lens is a Canon Macro Lens EF-S 60 mm.1:2.8
Can i tie the same fly two 6/0 hooks?
Hi Charles, I can see no reason why you shouldn't. Just choose some really long fibered schlappen feathers for the palmer hackle - and maybe some wire for the connection. Then you should be ready to chase big game. Tight lines, Michael :0)
Very cool tie, does it fish well?
Thanks a lot. I've had great succes with this streamer for trout - browns as well as sea trout :0)
Anyone know a good place online i can get the supplies for the fly i dont have a shop around here so
Hi Aiden, there are lots of great webshops in Denmark, where i live. Where do you live?
Id worry about that back hook connection with fish i intend to fight. But a good video
Hi Collin, thanks... and yep, that's always a consideration when using flies with more than one hook. In my experience it seldom happen though. Tight lines, Michael
Looks like that would be difficult to cast
Hi Elaina, It is a large streamer, but it offers no problems on a 7 or 8 weight rod. I even use a 5 or 6 weight occasionally. The important part isn't really the rod. Choosing the right line is crucial, though. Most kinds of saltwater/bass bug tapered weight forward designs works great for me. Tight lines, Michael :0)
Pretty much a circus peanut
I might be D.J. B.. Pretty hard to tie an articulated streamer fly without stepping in the footsteps of Galloup or Maddin :0) It's is also just another variation on the Woolly Bugger design IMO. Tight lines, Michael :0)
myselflikestjerkobylants
That was a waste of fluocarbon.
You can't speak or what?
Sure no problem. Just wanted to leave a bit to your own imagination. I feel confident you can figure it out ;0)
