  • This is a weekend trip to West Virginia from Virginia. The drive begins in Herndon, and then through such points of interest as the New River Gorge, Hawks Nest State Park, Montgomery (former home of WVU-Tech), Charleston and vicinity, Spencer, and other small towns.
    The entire trip, with a few small exceptions and edits, is recorded in time-lapse at 7.5x. There is no audio as I didn't want to use any copyrighted music, and the listener could then use whatever sounds that person wants.
    Among the places visited/passed through include:
    Harrisonburg, VA (0:13:20).
    Lewisburg, WV (0:27:26).
    New River Gorge in WV (0:36:30).
    Hawks Nest State Park in WV (0:42:49).
    Montgomery, WV (0:46:49). The HiRise building, which was part of WVU-Tech when it was still in Montgomery, can be seen at the far left side starting at 0:46:44. This building was demolished less than 24 hours after this video was recorded.
    Charleston, WV (starting at 0:51:30).
    Spencer, WV (starting at 1:08:49). There was an error with the subtitle at this time, which was supposed to state that we were entering Spencer.
    Ripley, WV (1:23:13).
    Parkersburg, WV (starting at 1:36:19).
    Clarksburg, WV (2:09:19).
    Winchester, VA (2:35:42).

      Thank you! I uploaded this video back when I had no following on my channel, so I didn't edit this the way that I should've in retrospect. I actually want to do this trip again, using the Garmin Virb Ultra 30 camera that I have.

      Thanks. The weather was good throughout the entire drive. I uploaded this video back when I had no following and only did it for family and friends to see. You'll notice that there are a lot of needless turnarounds and whatnot. I'm about to upload a newer, better version of this drive that I recorded in real time. I hoped to have it posted in the next couple of days.

    You must not have ever watched the movie "Wrong Turn" or else you never would've gone on those back roads down by the New River Gorge.

      I didn't realize that the Fayette Station Rd turns into a one-way road partway through it, and that's why I turned around there. But I wanted to drive through the gorge anyway, and that's why I went back across the bridge to drive in from the other side.

      Thanks a lot! I used to live in WV years ago, and I wanted to drive through all of the parts I either lived in or have been to when I was there. The only parts I missed were Corridor G (not far from you), and out in Putnam County and out near Barboursville and Huntington. Maybe I will visit those areas during my next trip. I just got back from Parkersburg a couple of weeks ago, and I will be uploading that trip's video at some point.

    We always know we've hit WV from VA because the roads instantly get better.

    • @unclecoolie
      @unclecoolie  11 месяцев назад

      I agree. VA's roads aren't the best. Actually, the best roads that I've driven on are in Kansas. I've driven across that state twice--once on I-70, and once on US-50--and both times the roads were great.

    Why turn around all the time?. 1:12:20

    • @unclecoolie
      @unclecoolie  6 лет назад +7

      Most of the roads in this video were roads that I deliberately drove on because I used to live near many of these places, or drove on these road many years ago - such as WV-14, WV-47, and US-33 to name a few. Where I turned around at 1:12:20 was near where my father lived at one time, but I didn't want to continue any further east on US-33 from that spot.

      unclecoolie is that why you drove up WV-14 to Reedy, only to to drive back to Spencer, then drive down WV-14 to Reedy (apparently the next morning) from Parkersburg? It would’ve been better if you edited out the redundancy. Otherwise, nice video of the typical WV landscape.
