While I haven't played KCD yet, part of what made me buy it was the developers commitment to being historically accurate with the only brakes in realism are for gameplay features (like the health pots), even when game journalists were trying to shame them into forcing diversity and inclusion to that game.
Now it seems like the devs had gotten closer to the same journalists who lambasted them in the past (and have yet to change their minds on why, if they ever will) and started acting more like the devs and publishers who are pushing diversity and inclusion when confronted with negative criticism (shouting grifters, ists, phobs, liers, and telling gamers to not buy it if they don't like it), and while rumors about the gay scene were circulating online, they did nothing but "trust us bro", which did nothing to clarify the situation, until Vavra had enough and started his public meltdown.
If you remember my earlier comment about how big publishers like to keep inching forward till they get more money for less worth? I believe the same concept applies here, and don't have much hope for warhorse to avoid the anti-gamer poison now that they started to listen to the anti-gamer crowd.
Two boys kissing is going to be the legacy atributed to KCD by media, forever. They got the revenge and the last laugh, gg wp.
A part of me wonders if, when Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch reunited in the set of Sherlock, they recited some of their lines from The Hobbit. Like Benedict Cumberbatch calling Martin Freeman “barrel rider”, or shouting “I am fire, I am death!”
Well they chose an odd character to make into a gay romance, the character in question Hans Capon has a son somewhere down the line and not a bastard child. So it indicates the romance option is a short/long term fling or the character you guide Henry will die before then.
Hans Capon was a lusty man going after anything with a bonus hole in the first game, there's even an entire DLC focused on being a good wingman for him before the epilogue.
This is all information that was in the Codex in the first game, most people ignore that stuff but I like world building.
It's about the lore consistency, reliability. How is this change NOT political? Someone needs to explain to me the motivation. Because Vavra sure as hell won't.
I think the sad thing is these devs threw away a decent chunk of loyal audience and turned away others just to bend over for their publisher Embracer and tick ESG boxes.
Money comes and goes, trust is a currency that is very hard to earn but very quick to spend.
I love the game personally. I think the controversy got taken out of hand, but I understand people wanting to be on guard about woke garbage.
The dev may need to be quiet but this is getting ridiculous.
We can't be handing out validations like they're participation trophies, we should actually criticize the inconsistencies and quality of the game and actually have some standards of what we should tolerate. I see kcd2 as total biscuit saw framerates, where even if the game sells well, it should not be accepted as a good game or acceptable practice, especially for its plot holes and Vavra's behavior. Fans need to actually quality control the product or it will end up like the various sci-fi franchises that are dead like star wars and dr. Who. Instead all I see is a bunch of youtuber/x users trying to win a "culture war" by either Bowing to Vavra or crying how the game "didn't actually sell well you guys seriously!"
Now I want to hear that discussion about the Hobbit - you tease. 😛
About the game, pfff, didn't play the first one, didn't intend to play the 2nd one either. But with some people trying to gaslight others about the 'gay thing' - I'm reminded why I was anti-W in the first place : I dislike being lectured - wherever the lecture comes from! So now, I'm almost tempted to try it. Not really but you get the point.
If I was a fan of the series, I wouldn't be getting the game*. I don't like it when they change established characters like that. You want diverse characters? Make new ones. If you can write them well and design them in interesting ways they will sell. However, most major corporations can't do that these days, so they rely on taking legacy characters and swapping their sex, race, or sexuality and sometimes a combination of all three. It's pure laziness and does nothing but divide people.
Hey, I would like you to talk about what is wrong with The Hobbit Trilogy. I always find it fun to listen to a passionate fan rant about a bad adaptation. I know not everyone else feels that way, so I try to avoid ranting about some of my favorite series, like Paper Mario**.
John Del Arroz is saying the game is a failure based on those numbers, really? Sigh, not surprising after his defense of Melonie Mac and her claims that The First Descendant was a flop because of an agenda being pushed.
*I'm not a fan of the series so I won't be getting it anyway.
**I have spilled quite a bit of ink on why I hate the direction the series has gone over the years.
I personally don't care about issues in-game. I haven't even finished the first game and I won't have the money for a new game for some time since I have to replace my entire HVAC system as it has been leaking carbon monoxide into my house. I understand why people are upset, though. There are strong signs of woke corruption due to Warhorse selling out to Embracer.
*Edit: So I looked further into it and is seems that none of your romance options from the first game even appear in the sequel except in mention and all other romances (except one) in the sequel are one-time affairs that are not a part of the main story (including a gay one). The Hans gay romance is the only real main story one and while it is optional for you to romance him, what I've read implies that regardless of your choice Hans still gets the hots for Henry. These modern day weirdoes just can't seem to conceive of the concept of a platonic friendship.
I am perpetually on youtube, I might have a problem! Lol. As for this drama, I get it too. Changes in the new game that wasn't established in the previous game will get ppl worked up. I didn't play the first game so I am not personally upset like how I was with DAtV. That whole series was my fave game series. With the leak about that gay romance and the insert of a black man whom most said don't belong, I was thinking that they will weave a believable story so that it made sense for the time period. That was my take on it anyways. From my limited understanding, this isn't a mainstream video game, so who's to say if it was successful or not only a few days after release? How did they do on ps5 or xbox? Is there a comparison chart for the first game, like seriously those who need this game to fail are doing the most, lol. A future third game from this company rests on the success of this second game and the playerbase they have let down.
I don't even like hetero relationship crap in video games, but now all games MUST have at least homosexual relationships to make the critics and the wokes happy. It might have been okay for KCD2 to have a gay scene if they actually make a really good story around it and two gay stuff wasn't in EVERYTHING. They say they are trying to get representation, they've had that and have surpassed it. Now it's over representation because they ARE trying to shove it down the throats of people that disagree with it. And as gamers we are tired of all the nonsense. We just want good games.
most of this whole debacle is because of a comment 8 years ago. Who even knows if Vavra wrote that as his vision of henry being straight. It would be the equivalent of a community manager who managed their youtube channel. I don't personally care one way or the other, but the "evidence" of betrayal is pretty weak, they could also have changed their perspective while developing the sequel.
I understand being upset about the fact that you can do the gay in the game though.
I watched Comix Division play it for a while. What I saw turned me off, and this was just early in the game (well before the controversy is supposed to happen). Maybe it is poorly localized, but the dialogue doesn't strike me as particularly historical. It was just cutscenes, dialogue options, and a little free movement before more dialogue options.
I guess I just don't like modern RPGs. I always thought of the "role" as being the character development options you select (like fighter or cleric), not a dating sim.
2 hour tutorials and removing gear you earn through stealth takedowns of enemies would be enough for a thumbs down from me
The only people praising this game and claiming they "enjoy" it, are the shiIIs and the normies who always buy the sIop. And yes, normies who keep buying the sIop are part of the problem.
Answer this one question - What do you enjoy about KCD2? Do you enjoy long walks between cutscenes where you get lectured or given the reddit version of medieval conversations?
I agree with you that I didn't like how the director of the game acted on social media. But then I also wonder how much might be lost in translation. Personally, I don't care if they include the alternative romance dialog, etc.. because I wouldn't select those. But I do care that they stated and established that his character was "straight" in the first game but now they are allowing you to change that in the 2nd game. Kind of odd. Still, I have the first game I haven't finished so I'm not going to consider the 2nd game until I finish it (and it goes on sale. 😀)
And I agree with your Hobbit take that it shouldn't have been 3 movies. There were parts that were entertaining, but they could have trimmed it down a lot.
Is noone else fed up with being forced to play yet another generic white guy? Character creation should exist in all RPGs as standard.
I don't agree.
I think RPGs can involve specific characters with a specific look - its a less involved form, but sometimes a story is easier to tell that way. Especially if you have something very specific in mind.
I'm not worried about the reviews or what other people feel about the game, they're entitled to their opinion but I'll form my own. I don't think KCD2 is for everyone and that's fine. The tutorial is very long, (I'm only an hour into it although that doesn't bother me I was having fun). The combat is very different to most RPG's and does seem clunky and needlessly complex but it's not awful hopefully once I'm more familiar it will feel slicker.
Everyone that I've watched play it has been mostly positive. I've seen a couple of people popping off in chat about the woke (in my opinion it's not I have no issue with diversity as long as is it is accurate and plausible). It's always the same people doing this, like they're specifically targeting playthroughs. There is one genius telling streamers they shouldn't be playing the game, which isn't well received.
As with the goonergate kerfuffle it feels like there are a group of people telling us what we can and can't enjoy and I've got no time for them, they're just like the leftist who call me names for liking thing they disapprove of. I don't like fortnite so I don't play it or talk about, I don't care if anyone likes it and plays it that's their choice and I hope they have fun doing so. Just let me have my fun with my choices.
