Ray was one of my instructors at Musicians Institute. He is a fantastic drummer and human being! He was always super nice and interested in helping students with their musical careers. I feel very lucky to have been one of his students and friend’s. He’s just a great person all around!
@@jampan137 Lmao get the fuck out you fucking nerd. Ray's got feel for days, his dynamics are extremley deliberate, and he knows how to hang back on the beat. He was never a speed freak so i dont even get where that came from.
I saw Ray play at Kansas City, KS several months ago. He is a beast when he is playing. Watch him closely when he is onstage and you will witness one of the great drummers of all times. He literally is possessed by the beat.
I will never cease to be amazed how a person can use both hands and both feet to to implement a rhythm and groove with improvisational flair. And while "locked in" as if it was computer generated. Amazing. Never gets old.
More reason this guy is quickly becoming my favorite drummer. Certainly an inspiration to watch. You can definitely tell he does it because he loves it.
I just watched this for the thousandth time. This is one of the best single performances I have ever witnessed I can’t even keep track of what the fuck is going on that was mind blowing.
Man, Ray just blows my mind every time I see him play. He’s seriously one of the best, clean, and smooth drummers in modern metal. I love me my blast beats and weird stuff, but there’s something so captivating about how he just taps into the fundamentals of drumming, while still managing to throw in flare that’s natural and creative. Ray also just always seems to love what he’s doing, and that smile on his face you see every now and then always feels so genuine: it’s what music is about, man.
Check out Army of Anyone if you've never heard of them. It's Ray on drums, Scott and Dean DeLeo (from Stone Temple Pilots) on guitar and bass respectively, and Richard Patrick from Filter on vocals. The whole album is great - a hidden gem in the rock catalogue.
Correction. AOA was: Ray on drums, Richard Patrick on vocals and the Deleo brothers Robert (bass) and Dean (guitar). And they made one of the best rock albums of the last 20 years! And I love that record man!
The thing I find so great about Rays playing is that no matter what time signature he's laying down(and there are a bunch of them during this song)his fills are always so clean(regardless of complexity) & you can make out everything he's doing.A lot of drummers have great fills, but you can't make out what they're doing during them & when they go back into the verse/chorus,it can sound sloppy sometimes.Ray always makes it a note to point out that cleanliness is one of the most important things to practice & speed & endurance will follow,in his lesson/teaching videos.I think he's got the clean technique and odd time signatures to beat Neil Peart, but his style & fills are better. With Neil, you can anticipate exactly what fill hes gonna play next, but with Ray You don't know what he's gonna do next & that's what makes him such a great drummer.
Been a huge fan of Ray's all throughout his career. He keeps getting better and more creative with any band he's involved with.. and plays with so much power and passion. Thanks for the inspiration Ray, you're my favorite drummer ever!
just got the cd today. monster band, monster sound, monster everything. Three superior talents going at it with energy rarely seen anymore. This will be one of my most favorite albums of all time... i know it
Holy shit, I think he's my new favorite drummer. I've watched a few of his videos now and I can say he seems like a good humble dude who can just slay the set.
I recently watched a video here on YT with Ray & few others including Danny Carey & Justin Chandler of Tool. It's the 1st time I've heard him speak came across great he was stating how he went to the college that's a massive music college in the US & how he learnt a lot. It was like he really wanted to be a master of his craft. Which he certainly is & very humble with it. Just seemed like a decent very talented person. Exactly how I'd describe Danny longlegs Carey. Both of those 2 drummers take it to another level. There's not many that do for me. Then again there's a lot of drummers out there I've not heard.
Eddie Chris it's a phase effect by cupping the the hand over the bell of the ride and moving your hand back and forth. pretty slick how he snuck that in there with so little time to execute it.
It literally looked like he was karate chopping his ride or something. Made me laugh the first time I saw it. But it sounds awesome when you turn up the volume to hear it
I've been listening to this guy's drumming for years, but it just clicked for me all the projects he's been a part of and the songs I like from them. That said, I just now realized that he's one of my favorite drummers.
Super nice, humble man and IMO, one of the greatest drummers living. The groove, timing, fills and technical perfection in that piece is mind blowing. He's such a monster on that throne while crushing it on that amazing kit. One of my favorite drummers of all time.
Wow, this is some of his best drumming! I absolutely love to see drummers that continue to improve over the years. Ray has seriously impressed me here.
First-time i heard Ray was on the Army of Anyone album on the song Goodbye and......yeah!! So watching him do these specials /clinics it gets to show us as a fan and a fellow drummer just what Ray is capable of and every time I watch him he still surprises me with his talent/skills. Pretty impressive Ray!!
Superb!! Such a talented musician, top top class and Korn is definitely sounding outstanding with Ray in the band. Wow, just wow on his skills, groove, dynamic, energy
I have not been a huge fan of metal drumming but this guy is an exception!! Ray is a master of his instrument!! Yes crazy crazy but he is very musical!! Very refreshing that someone in the genre plays this good!!! Most I've seen/heard just make fast the deal. This guy has it all!!!
Pisses me off when Korn fans rag on Ray. Dude is fucking awesome. Not only can he be groovy, but he can be precise and tight.
I dont get it what is there 2 rag on?--Ray plays his ass off
People always prefer the original guy, and I always see people say Ray "has no groove", when KXM has some really groovy shit going on.
Ray is my fav drummer out there and lets just say his potential is somewhat... limited in korn.
there is no comparison
Silveria was hardly tight or even that technical...
One of the best but underrated Metal Drummer of this generation.
Agree. I enjoyed his Korn work, but he wasn't the standout element in their music. With KXM I've immediately grown to appreciate his chops.
Kevin Heckeler thats because he has to work around a style Korn already had established before he was part of the band.
no!

When was he your instructor? Very cool dude.

It sounded so cool on the CD , but to see it played. What a piece of work. You are one hell of a drummer. Awesome
Besides the fucking monster drumming, that's just a badass song! With Dug Pinnick of King's X behind the mic, you can't go wrong...
Ray Harber I knew that voice sounded familiar!!
Music music, I hear music.
correct Sir

In love with this guys' drumming. His style and choices during live performances and such. Hard to believe he's in his forties.

Finally a metal drummer who knows how to use his hi hats!
Anup Sastry can use his hi hats
No he can't
+derek motta Does the name Danny Carey ring a bell?
+derek motta He is truly talented, shame his appearance does not really correspond with other Korn members. He doesnt fit amongst them.

3:46 that was beautiful and that bell compression to end it. Fucking love it
Amazing I love the rim clicking as the main motif Holy cow just so unique. Just wild
Ive put off of watching this for a whioe but im glad i finally did.. Ray is hella awesome!
Still bringing something new and awesome after all these years Ray. Great job.
An entirely other level. Ray plays with so much power and discipline, yet so much innovation. True master of the kit.
