Good to see the railroad spending money on the next generation rail car instead of worrying about rather they'll have crews to haul them🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

I think gondolas should be articulated for efficiency and safety like the inter modal cars and I know how you can make safer tank cars of the future, by articulating them so theydon't jack-knife in derailments. Cory Mears

Obviously you never had to pick up a 5 section articulated railcar. Jack knives happen in derailments anyway, even if you don't want it to. Articulated tank cars, oh wonderful !!! Dump those and see how much spillage you have. :)

I am just wondering if you could make a new light weight gondola for U.P. & BNSF & CSX but in the form of a large gondola that is almost as tall as the locomotives so they can probably replace 2 smaller ones with the 1 big car. If they can replace every 2 small gondolas with 1 large gondola, that would mean half the floors, walls, springs, couplings, wheels, bogies, brakes, and roller bearings and less weight, that would mean fewer trucks, less gas, fewer crashes, less smoke, less money to spend, less maintenance, more time on the mainline, less noise, fewer engines, more profits, fewer breakdowns, fewer collisions, less waiting at the crossings for the trains to pass, less global warming, healthier lungs, fewer people being late for work, school, and birthday parties. All of this because of fewer but larger gondolas with twice the amount of space that the customers can use in less time. If you do, please give me some credit for the idea. Thanks, Cory Mears

Modern freight car maximum weight is 286000 lbs so your request isn't possible without replacing alot of RR infastructure, not to mention scrap gons that large would more than likely be "topheavy".

    • @whiteknightcat

Greenbrier already produces 62 foot, 7100 cubic foot wood chip gondolas that are over 15 feet tall. Other manufacturers (like National Steel Car) produce cars of similar dimensions specifically for scrap metal service. In fact, I just saw about a dozen of them in Corpus Christi, TX this last weekend.
