literally just two episodes ago jules was crying because she thought that rue had a crush on elliot now she's the one hooking up with him. it's just so annoying to me. then on top of that her and elliot get alcohol with rue there then get mad at her for drinking like??? it was so inconsiderate and hypocritical. like clearly elliot never cared for rue's sobriety/even safety so him doing that didn't shock me but jules?
Jules is selfish and implosive she knows if rue finds out they would kill her and she will do rue wrong if anybody shows her a glimps of attention she’s head over heals she’s low key a narc she’s only thinks of rue feelings when it’s convenient
and the whole time i thought there was no way that jules would just let rue out of the car on the side of the road.. i was in SHOCK when she did! and then she went back to elliott's to hook up with him without even checking to see if rue got home safe
When Cal tells Nate, “You are my biggest regret.” I interpreted that as “I failed you as a parent.” I think of it as Cal acknowledging the generational trauma he passed on to his son.
I hope that’s what he meant (that would make sense after that season one scene when he speaks about his life to that stranger), but I’m afraid it’s just poor writing for shock value. This season is so disappointing smh
@@haley2018 I don't think Nate is in love with Juelz. Nate did all that catfishing to make sure she didn't expose his dad. Fez had no idea about that so he assumed that Nate was in love with Juelz.
@@mymaynee5963 right it’s actually so strange. Like he literally used it as an excuse to hurt and traumatise his family. When he could have just sat them down and had a normal non creepy conversation.
How Maddy directly looked at Cassie when she said "Marry" was wild. She's definitely putting things together. Also it was nice to see how Kat and Maddy have each other's back. Maddy was completely there for her when she was venting about her guy, and she was had hers in the hot tub.
@@lona9461 yes, exactly, thank you for saying that. Let's remember that he wasn't born bad, it was his toxic environment. That is actually, the saddest part for me. I felt super bad for everyone in that scene, could feel everyone's pain
I find the Cal and Nate dynamic very interesting but I see it was very hard for people to process because they only see Nate and Cal as villains and don’t realize this show doesn’t operate in absolutes of black and white. Nate is Cal’s biggest regret because he’s the worst part of himself, Cal even says earlier in the episode that Nate is apart of himself he doesn’t understand. Nate’s a good example of how generational curses can transform and morph into something worse. Teenage Cal had expressed his true feelings for Derek and now is able to reconnect with that part of himself, but in contrast Nate is so repressed that he doesn’t express his true emotions unless it’s violence and can’t feel love from others. I actually anticipated Cal leaving because it’s the only way for this curse to stop and for Nate to progress past this cycle of trauma he learned from Cal and Cal learned from his own father. Objectively speaking their storyline was compelling because it gave a lot depth to an antagonist. I think people feel like they’re supposed to like Cal because of this but I don’t think that’s the point. It’s showing that just because some people are taught to be monsters doesn’t mean they can’t unlearn or correct their bad behavior. I think people are just used to seeing villains being killed off as a form of penance and that’s just not reality.
Also WHY the plotlines from season 1 are still not addressed? Like that thing between Nate and Jules, Cassie’s story with McKay (he’s been in this season for like 5 minutes and then just disappeared, and everyone forgot about the whole abortion thing??), also Maddie having the disk of Jules and Cal? The Anna girl that Jules hooked up with? and so many more questions left unanswered:( This season feels like a completely different story tbh
exactly! but minor detail, i’m still wondering about how maddie and kat are good friends now but when we left off they weren’t good… and how is maddie so good and normal with jules after she watched the tape? idk
Yh I was wondering like Jules hanging out with Maddy at the bowling alley, knowing he was "ShyGuy"/ blackmailing the nudes, but still let her be w him for the rest of the 1st season. Then Maddy knows Jules hooked up with the dad.
I read an article saying that the actors that play McKay and Kat were having tension with the creator Sam Levinson over the direction of their characters. That’s most likely why Kat and McKay have barely any screen time this season I think.
I'm still thinking about poor Tyler! I know that whole plot was to show how Nate gets away with everything and how manipulative he is, but he is still a 17 year old boy. Also even if he succeeded in framing Tyler (it wouldn't be that easy, SA cases are treated far more harshly especially with a female victim) Tyler didn't just disappear. He should have people asking about him, people in Euphoria high would be talking about it and giving Nate/Maddy side-eyes (especially after that whole domestic abuse tape aimed at Maddy. that would have been the gossip of the school for the next 10 years!), possibly a revenge plot. So many people saw Maddie willingly lead Tyler into the pool (no one recorded it? At a party? Where people were doing it in front of everyone? Really? But Kat gets a sex tape.), they saw Maddie willingly engage, and they saw Nate have a tantrum. The writing is so stupid and it's only. Getting. Worse.
Am I wrong for laughing at Cal’s little meltdown 😭😭? Like first, this grown ass man peed on the floor, and his bandage had me screaming. Cal really exposed his family but forgot to admit he slept with a high schooler 🤡. I can’t wait to see the end results of Lexi’s play 😂. She was like Brenda from Scary Movie but without the camcorder.
I truly believe that Rue isn't dead and telling this story. I also think Rue represents Sam Levinson "I was a drug addict, and I'd take anything and everything until I couldn't hear or breathe or feel. Somewhere around the age of 16, I resigned myself to the idea that drugs could kill me, and there was no reason to fight it; I would just let it take me over and I'd made peace with that.” He recovered and I believe he will show that through the character of Rue. One cool film technique I noticed is as Rue gets higher and higher, the story itself gets jumbled and messy. As you said, she didn't speak this episode as narrator but she was also completely numb due to the drugs she took. This episode's acting was POWERFUL.
Lexi is me. Just observing seeing how messed up everyone is and the lack of accountability. I think her play is gonna hit a nerve for a lot of the characters and I can’t wait.
When Cal peed inside the house and when Marsha asked him what's wrong with him and the way he said ✨I feel lonely ✨ was seriously soooo freakin funny, I can't with this man😂😂
Call really got a great monologue and I’m so happy to hear him call everyone out I just hope he goes to jail and finds love in there. Ashtray better than any therapist
For me, It was Ms Cassie trying to make It seem like she was doing Maddy a favor 😭 like she’s taking on responsibility of Nate on her behalf. That was WILD 💀
The conversation between Nate and Cassie is so ironic. I can tell that Nate is tried of her presence especially when she speaks. Also I love the fact that Lexi paying any mind and focusing on herself because her mother expecting to look after Cassie it’s unfair!
This is just my mini theory for the next episode. I think the lady confronts Rue and realizes that she is using the drugs rather than selling them. She keeps Rue captive or something and everyone doesn't know what has happened to her. This is because we see the woman a lot in the next episode, there are cops involved and a door with a lock on it (assuming that Rue is trapped inside).
@@thatlawyercancook8095 I mean individual prices of the drugs inside. Like when she opened the case there was coke, but then at the end of that ep, it looked like she took a tab. Plus, she gave 10K in drugs to a child(16 y/o) who guaranteed confidentiality bc of blackmail (leaked texts)
@@bris_art some dealers don't particularly care how you get the money as long as they get it, it's also easy to assume that someone who came to you with a whole ass business plan should know how to get it done already. She could easily claim hertrust in Rue is based on Fezco saying he'd trust her with his life, and they've been indirectly involved for years already through mouse. I feel like this is all gonna put Fez in hot water.
Apparently that whole scene was to show that when rue gets really high she almost enters a spiritual realm where she communicate with her dad. It’s not her overdosing, and it’s confirmed when am we see her slow dancing by herself. Resources bridge4- episode 4 breakdown Sam L- episode 4 after show
It was such an emotional scene. It really shows that even if she doesn't talk about it, the root of her addictions is her father's passing and she hasn't coped with the pain of losing him. That scene made me cry and the one with Cal reminiscing Derek too. It's so hard to let go of the past.
@@GirlDo3 it’s also possible that there’s more to Rue story that she hasn’t reveled to us yet. Honestly, I don’t think her fathers passing is the soul reason why she started doing drugs, and I’m pretty sure Sam made a similar comment about this at the end of the episode. I think there’s a lot more to Rue story that she either blocked out of her memory, or hasn’t told us yet. Just my theory..
As much as loved this episode, it is becoming increasingly aware that euphoria is using pretty, but riched-in symbolism, shots as way to hide the lack of an overarching plot. we are on episode four, and mckay has been completely written out after bign SA'd and kat is basically nothing to show. It's annoying that when try to criticize this someone says you lack critical thinking skills. don't get me wrong, I still love the show, but this season definitely has some problems.
I read somewhere the actor who plays McKay didn't wanted to come back this season bc of schedule or something... But i feel like they did Kat so dirty this season, i really wanted her arc but they just tossed her aside...
@@Alina-bb5fp I agree a lot has happened so far, and I'm also waiting for everything to finally click into place by the end of the season, it's just that when they threw in that scene of kat and the influencers in her bedroom, I thought it was a really powerful scene and was excited to see her storyline being further explored, yet nothing further has happened since then apart from ig her dinner scene with ethan
@@Alina-bb5fp and this isn't just an issue with kats storyline, it has happened to other characters as well, so yeah I'm just waiting it out until the season ends before I can see the big picture of where they went wrong (or right)
my theory is that Maddy knows and ALSO KAT is picking up what CASSIE has been putting down throughout that hot tub exchange, she kept looking BOTH at Cassie and Nate and something clicked for her.
I agree, because Cassie been acting mad weird and everyone has noticed it especially around Maddie, and that one scene where she looked like a Minnie Maddie I don’t think she forgot about all that and then the hot tub seen just pulled all those loose ends together
Me and kat is similar ik for a fact she picked it up before getting into reading and fanfic I always sucked at reading people becoming addicted to reading where u have to read between the lines i be picking up drama and hints 24/7
I think Cal told Nate he's his biggest regret bc at that point, he chose to have a second child. Chose to expand this family that he secretly didn't want.
@@amaram29 that, too. Its just my theory since we see the eldest son and just the way he finally accepts himself and opens up about finally being free.
Sooo the pastor is actually Labrinth and i think it plays a bit of All of us which is the song that Labrinth described as Rue's almost salvation song. The song that says she has a chance of beating her addiction. Also i think it's interesting how while Jules has done some not great things but also reacting in a way that shows her trauma people are so quick to hate her. Im not here for her cheating on Rue obviously but when you think about it Elliot has legit been manipulating her as well. Feeding into her insecurities, saying all the right things. Im just saying wheres all the hate for Elliot??
elliot orchestrated that whole thing, it was his idea to buy the alcohol, he pointed out that rue shouldn’t be drinking (knowing they would fight) then he knows Jules is gonna want to sleep with so he reveals the truth about the drugs to make himself look comparatively better than Rue
Your trauma isn't an excuse for the shitty things you do. And " I was manipulated into it " isn't a good excuse for cheating. She could just have NOT made out with Elliot because he ate out her hand or whatever. It also doesn't help that she didn't even feel bad about it and made out with Elliot while Rue was snorting a line... And Elliot sucks ass for that too but he's not the one dating her and crying in the bathroom because she thinks Rue has feelings for someone else.
Okay so everyone is hating on my girl Cassie and I kinda agree she’s a mess this season. But omg Sydney’s acting is amaaaazing! The scene with her drinking and dancing and getting wrapped up in the balloons was gut wrenching. Girls got a lot of trauma and pain and Sydney does such a good job showing that. Also, the scene with Nate where she says “I’m crazier” and the look on her face was prime acting.
Jules' mum was an addict who completely betrayed her multiple times. Even going to the extent of committing her to a facility where she tried to die by suicide. Her reaction to Rue makes a lot of sense and is a product of current and previous trauma.
I don't think her mom put her in a facility because she was an addict, I think she became an addict after Jules made the clear decision to officially transition, and the reason she was put in a facility was because she was "abnormal" IE: knew she didn't feel like a boy and her mom was incredibly phobic and unaccepting of it. It was her dad who finally took her home and when he did her mom used drugs to cope with it all.
okay so she need to stay away from rue if you gonna be drinking and shit. you want rue by your side no matter what you do but you want her to be sober. as she legit passed the drink to her.
@@jessicabenton7762 very true, I don’t understand why they even needed to steal the alcohol and trash the shop if they had rue with them? Jules makes me cringe this season, ngl
I really hope that they don’t drag the Cassie/Nate storyline until the final episode where Maddy finds out about them only in the very end.. cause honestly there are way more important storylines going on in this season. Like if she doesn’t find out by the next two episodes i’m gonna be PISSED.
Like Cal's story line if you meant Rue's storyline I'm telling you that plot is going nowhere and turned out to be the most boring storyline in the whole show. Cassie and Cal are the power houses this season
I do not believe Elliot actually felt bad about fucking rue up that evening, when he didn’t even do the drugs with Rue and then went and brought her around alcohol knowing it was gonna be a bad idea. Then literally left a teenage intoxicated girl on the dark on the side of the road who’s suppose to be his “friend.”
"Cal" said in an interview that Nate was his biggest regret because he failed to end the cycle of fuckedupness and toxic masculinity/sexual frustration
I also think they missed a huge opportunity to talk about male sexual assault with Mckays character and I’m really disappointed that it isn’t going to be explored as far as I know
Y’all need to watch the after show review. The director said the ending of rue getting high and going to the church, that was what the director imagined for her to be in a state between life and death to be able to see her father and what not.
I figured bc she sees her father, but we know that's not possible. And when she walks down the aisle Jules and Elliot are sitting down. Plus, she's in the same position in her room when dancing.
A lot of people don't like that this season is too focused on metaphors and being artsy, but I actually love it so much. It's what makes Euphoria unique and I've been wanting a tv show like that forever.
Same. The scenes are so well thought out and beautifully shot, it’s captivating. Also, the music combined with the cinematography is amazing like in the scene with Labrinth singing in the church and Rue standing there hugging him (her dad in her mind) is gut wrenching and a lot of it is the timing of the music and camera angles in my opinion. I totally agree the metaphysical aspects of the show are what make euphoria…euphoria!
I think what triggered Cal wasn't Ashtray but Fez. When he told him Nate was in love with Juul🤣 But seriously that's why he said Nate was his worst regret because he realized the moment Fez said that, just how much wrong he had done Nate.
I hope that they start to acknowledge Jules and self harm, that was a huge part of her backstory but it’s been something generally ignored. I feel like they might because they included the short clip where you could see some cuts on her leg. There’s a really good window to discuss an important and serious topic that I want them to dive into.
And just a side note I know the whole series so far has been from Rues perspective but how has no one noticed she’s still using?! And not just weed for her cover drug she’s looked really unwell for most of this season
I think a lot of people didn't watch the special cause I feel like Jules and Rue are both addicts one is addicted to sex the other drugs. So it makes sense that when the going gets tough they fall back to those additions. And I think Jules specifically falls back to the only thing she really knows which is meaningless sex to numb the pain and rue relapsing triggers how she felt with her mom who was an addict and restricted her in an asylum she felt trapped and so reacted by going back to her addiction. Lol this isn't to say what she did is right they both wrong and need help and should not be in relationships.
Honestly unpopular opinion but Lexi is getting messy as well. Her using her sisters breakdowns as script for her play is so exploitive? She even had them say Mckay’s name like people will know. I love Lexi but everyone keeps on saying how Lexi minds her own business meanwhile she’s creating a play about other peoples business without their consent.
I think lexi has disassociated so far from her family life that she doesn't even think half of what happens is real. That "this is life" scene proved it--she feels like everything is fake and removed from her that it might as well be a play or tv show because isn't it already? For lexi she's not exploiting Cassie--you have to understand that Cassie yelling at her affects her too, by making her disassociate. Both have mental illness but Lexi isn't messy. She's not willingly starting drama and stirring shit up. The play is the only way she can have control over her life, by making it a play, by truly depersonalising it by changing the names and stuff. Being an observer is something that makes Lexi feel stuck, so the play is like her giving into her fear and helplessness to gain power.
I think what she’s doing is wrong but I believe that montage of all of those girls acting like Cassie was not real, like I don’t think she’d put Mckay’s name in the play. I think that’s them showing us how Lexi sees that argument in her head.
I think Elliott suggested they get alcohol to cause tension between Rue and Jules, and then told Jules that Rue was still using just for the purpose that she would sleep with him. Like he made himself look like the “better person” in comparison to Rue by telling Jules the truth, so Jules is going to be more upset with Rue than Elliot.
I have a theory about Cal, what if the reason why he hooks up with younger people is because he still remember his old best friend as a teenager or whatever age he was in the flashback. Because when he was dancing and it changed to his friend it was the young actor still but the older actor for Cal. That could just be so we would recognize him though, I don't know because Cals hookups always have different ethnicities and don't look like his old best friend but idk I just thought about that when I saw the episode.
He's not hooking up with people thinking they're Derek. Its more likely that he hooks up with younger adults to live and experiment the things he wanted to experience when he was younger himself. After all, pregnancy with Aaron basically took away his whole persona, and he had to hide it for years. It doesn't justify the things he has done, but it does explain his thought process and behavior throughout his whole family life.
But he did experiment and experience stuff before aaron was born - remember that part where he tells aaron at the end that the first time he had ever had sex w a man it was when aaron was still in his moms belly... This could make sense but he also could just be a creep
I think Elliot just thought Rue was into drugs but kinda had a handle on it like he seems to have. Like Gia said last episode, Rue doing drugs is different from when other people do it. I think seeing her drink while so heavily intoxicated from the drugs she did earlier made him realise that she has a death wish and that her situation was way more intense than he realised.
I was thinking the same thing about Elliot’s relationship to drugs vs Rue’s relationship to drugs. Elliot seems to just want to have a good time and chill and do drugs for fun but Rue is getting as high as she can without ODing to numb her emotional pain. Biiiig difference there. I think he realized that when she was drinking in the car just like you said!
@@feya1621 Maybe at the time he thought that was an isolated incident but this made him fully comprehend the extent of her problems. Not the perfect rationalisation, but that's what I got
I think all of these characters are acting and reacting to things psychologically in a way that makes sense. I mean, I understand what people may think of Jules but I think it’s important to remember that Jules is just a kid, she has her own problems and her mother has had problems with addiction ( which I think makes her be so attracted to Rue but also so able to scape whenever she gets really bad). Also, I think Cassie is matching Nate in terms of being manipulative, we all know she’s not with him to prevent Maddie from getting back with him, but that’s her way of blackmailing him with telling her and of justifying her actions, but I don’t think she realizes that she cannot manipulate someone like Nate. Because of the way she was glancing at Cassie while arguing with Nate, I think Maddie’s intuition is telling her about Cassie and Nate but maybe she’s refusing to see it, waiting to have proof before she comfronts them or maybe she thinks Cassie is being manipulated by Nate and is not confronting her because she feels compassion and also because she knows Nate doesn’t really loves her. Also, I think Cassie’s actions show us that she’s starting to kind of see Maddie as an opponent, like when she starts dressing exactly like her or when she says to Nate that she’s crazier that Maddie, like, she knows Maddie is who Nate really wants and she’s starting to see her as competition. The only character that I don’t understand is Elliot, I truly have no clue what his actual intentions are.
Love all of your opinions here I agree with everything. I like your perspective on why Cassie said all those really strange things in Nates room. You make a good point about Elliot too, his intentions are really unclear. I wonder if we’ll get a backstory on him too cuz he’s a teenager who’s allowed to do drugs inside his home..... but we know nothing else about him?
@@liontoyou9518 thank you!! Like, I want to know if what he’s going with Jules and Rue is intentional and he truly is a manipulative person like people are saying or if he just thinks it’s normal and has no malicious intentions. Also, is he new in town? We’ve never seen him before and he must have been introduced as a character this season for some reason…
I dont think nate really wants maddy. I think he wanted to get that tape back because he doesn't want jules to be humiliated if anyone finds it. Nate already pretty much confirmed he never felt any love from maddy and might not even have any sort of feelings for her.
@@melon2378 I think if he wanted any of these girls, that girl would be Maddie. Ever since the show started, all he’s done is try to get her back. I think it’s a huge possibility that he also wants to get back the tape, but I really really doubt he would be doing it to protect Jules. I think if he wants the tape back it’s so he can control his dad and prevent the rest of the world from seeing it. I wonder if the tape will continue to matter after Cal’s outburst.
@@melon2378 Like, I don’t think he loves Maddie (or any of these girl) at all, I don’t think he knows how to love or feel love at all. But, to me, wanting Maddie is not the same as loving her.
I think you aren't wrong yet about your theory with Nate trying to get the tapes from Maddy. I think him going to go see her and have a "deep" convo with her is just his first step to try to get the tape. Knowing how Nate operates with his plans, it's going to be a thought out one to get the tape instead of just a quick "hey nice to see you maddy, where are the tapes??" lol
rue absolutely overdosed, the fact the narrator changes from rue to jules at the end of the episode i feel solidifies that. also jules handed rue that white claw and all of a sudden it’s “omg rue you’re drinking?!??!” from jules and elliot like i’m sorry did you two not just take rue, a recovering addict, on your little act of rebellion in stealing some white claws just to be mad she’s drinking like huh???? the math isn’t mathing it’s not like it was rue’s idea or rue reached over jules and grabbed a can they actively assisted in her getting drunk and elliot knew she was high AND what she had taken in the bathroom and that she can’t drink on it and still put her in a situation where there was alcohol. it’s a no from me dawg
Personally, I believe that Jules' behavior/distance is a defense mechanism. Her mother's drug abuse caused a lot of trauma, and as seen in the special episode, there are many parallels between Rue and Amy Vaughn. In any case, I do not trust Elliot. Conscious or not, he's manipulating Jules and Rue. The male gaze is more noticeable this season, from the framing of the female characters, to the increased nudity, and fetishization of wlw relationships. I find some of the writing decisions questionable-especially with the Rue/Jules/Elliot triangle. I don't know how to articulate it, but Elliot's intrusion and the constant sexual undertones feel so voyeuristic. Season 1 hinged on Rue and Jules' relationship. It was raw and complex-there was clear chemistry. Now, it no longer belongs to them and feels like a performative spectacle. Very much "I can turn you straight" energy. (Yes, the shift in their dynamic can be attributed to Rue's relapse and downward spiral, but Elliot's character was not needed to illustrate it.) Jules' arc over the past season and a half centered around the revelation that her gender validity is /not/ contingent on male validation. The special episode, beautifully written by Hunter Schafer, was a nuanced exploration of expression, presentation, and perception. All of the growth has been diminished. Having her seize the first opportunity to cheat on Rue with Elliot perpetuates biphobic stereotypes.
I think Elliot is just looking for a threesome tbh. He's testing the waters and taking a chance with both of them. I mean considering the conversation he had with his mom(?) who asked him on the couch 'how many "friends" have you brought in here like this' and they laugh. So I feel like he's lowkey hoping eventually it might turn into hookup/ insert himself making it a poly relationship. Though there is an inkling of a genuine caring side to him.
I saw in a Sydney Sweeney interview that Maddie’s character accidentally broke her toe while filming and then she seemed like she shouldn’t have said anything so I’m guessing they’re going to get into a physical fight at some point
Something I just realized is that when Rue told Jules that she “couldn’t stand her”, I feel like in that moment all Jules saw was her mother. Her behavior after that whole thing seriously mimicked her behavior after any interaction with her mother where she just doesn’t talk about it because of how hurtful it is and also distracts herself by having sex with some guy. Like, with how bad Rue’s addiction is right now, she’s probably behaving pretty close to how Jules’ mother does which would explain why Elliot telling her Rue was on drugs was the final nail in the coffin.
4:50 I said the exact same thing. I just assumed they were alright with her drinking. When they made a big deal about it I just threw my arms in the air in confusion
Lexi is creepy yo. I don't know what she will gain by exposing her sister like that. No matter how bad your sister is. That's just low. Idk why y'all rooting for that behavior. Imagine having a sibling doing that to you. Trust out the window. Anyways, everyone is annoying. Jules is trash. Elliot needs to go away. Rue please get help. Maddy, Nate, Katt, and Cassie go to therapy. Cal is free now so can't say much there. My boys Fez and Ashtray are holding it down. And we barely got to see them this episode.
I really don’t think it’s about Lexi “exposing” Cassie, but about the relationship between the two, all we’ve known is lexi being there for others, so much so that lexis mom asks lexi about Cassie & not even herself,& people come to lexi for info or for her to do something for them. I think lexi just needs an outlet & this play is perfect for that, everyone can see the problem & also consider not being selfish around friends/family. I completely agree w the second half tho, it’s like everyone is shitty I’m sorry. It’s always “good people do bad things” but like come on??? Most of the things that are happening are CHOICES & i simple don’t have a favorite character because of that.
I absolutely love how your accent changes when the mood strikes you LOLOL. I’m so happy I found your channel, your reactions are amazing! Keep going and good luck on the road to 100K!!!
Okay but can we talk about Lexi though for a sec... bc that scene where she was auditioning girls and having a flashback to how she’s directly treated by Cassie hit too close to home. I see so much of myself in Lexi and have had identical scenarios like that being told to mind your business when you care about someone going down a bad route
Someone said that labyrinth is supposed to represent some supreme god-like presence and that coupled with her dancing with her dead dad symbolizes her kind pf “dancing with death. PS did you notice in the scenes where they re-enact ghost, titanic etc…. Miss rue plays the dead characters 👀 but maybe I’m reaching 🤷🏽♀️
✨I honestly think Nate is just dead inside . Like it’s his anger thats all that’s left nothing else. And I could see why, but then I can’t see why. He’s almost like , an empty shell of a human. ✨Cassie is going to have psychotic breakdown at any moment and explode , which is what she needs tbh. ✨Maddy is gonna find out and is on the verge of being a powerful independent queen ✨Jules is lowkey toxic and no one is talking about IT ✨Elliot is honestly man in the middle ✨kat is going to find her self love ✨and rue…girl. She’s about to acknowledge she’s really misses her dad.. ✨cal already had his psychotic breakdown is saying fuck it, and going to expose himself to everyone else because he’s tired of hiding ✨Lexi is going to expose everyone on a lowkey level LOL
I have concerns for the way the series is going. The first couple epsiodes I was livingggg for the drama but I need them to address some things from last season. I didnt need to see cassie dancing around getting tangled in balloons for 10 minutes. or the long scene of her sitting in front of flowers like its pretty but doesnt move the plot forward. the cal scene was entertaining but in the grand scheme I dont like how much they have focused on Cal's story. I need more Kat (and not just her being conflicted about ethan), lexi, fez, and miss Gia deserves her own lil plotline as well. But considering how the season is being set up I dont see that happening :/
Something I noticed in this episode was the contrasting depictions of the fathers shown, Rue's Dad & Cal. In one scene, you have a kind, good-hearted father who sees the best in his child even though she is literally at rock bottom and he "doesn't know her anymore" (remember this!). I know Rue's dad is just a hallucination in this episode, but it still does show that while he was in this world he was a positive influence on Rue, especially as a father. Rue KNOWS her father loves her. That's why she thought of him in the “church”. Church is meant to be a place of comfort from all the bad things in the world, but in Rue's mind that place was her dad. And then the scene right after we get....Cal, the polar opposite. Cal is a selfish dad-or really a sperm donor-who unfortunately started an “unwanted” family. I mean the dummy spends more time making home movies about one-night stands than getting to know his own son(s). That being said, this part of Cal’s speech was interesting to me because it was weird to see how in the previous scene Rue told her dad "you don't know me anymore" and then for Cal to say to Nate in the next scene that “he raised him, but doesn’t know him at all”. It's kind of a weird parallel to show the contrasting parent/child dynamic that both Rue and Nate experienced. Anyways...it’s so disheartening to see how one family can be traumatized by the death of a father and how another family can be traumatized by the double life of a father. It really sucks that a good father died too soon and that a bad father won’t die soon enough. *Side Note: I know they want us to feel bad for Nate because his dad said he is his biggest regret, but making Cal more a villain does not really make Nate any less of one. Also, I love your videos and euphoria pre-shows. It's like a fun gossip session!!!
yay almost 100k!! I watch these breakdowns during lunch then euphoria is all I think about until school ends. Cals bar scene and jules and elliot practicing on their hands is something I'm still processing 😃🙆🏽♀️
Elliot is definitely scheming, and is trying to manipulate both Rue and Jules. And idc how many montages or back stories they show us of Cal he can choke!!! But I loved this weeks episode lol
I really haven't seen anyone talk about the fact that Jules' mom was also a drug addict. I'm sure how Jules reacts and handles Rue's addiction has been influenced by her relationship with her mom. But that's still not an excuse for the messiness of their relationship with Elliot.
@@bratzbabe187 yall dont even know what barbie wanted pls lmao. he let hunter direct a special episode, he let sydney have creative input. he clearly gives his main actors an ear and takes their ideas into consideration. so maybe the problem is what barbie wanted, he felt simply didnt belong in this season
@@moveslikeninja1 apparently it’s suggested sam wanted to give kat an eating disorder this season and barbie wasn’t okay with it which is why they fought hence why kats storyline has been ignored
@@thecumwithin8860 again those are all rumours, and we probably dont even know half of it. if barbie didnt want that storyline then it's good he didn't force it on her. however that doesnt mean he can just randomly think of a new storyline for her that makes sense. an ED story would've actually made sense since it ties with her background from the first season (ie: daniel dumping her cause she gained weight)
i literally still can’t believe u only have 90K bc when i first found your channel back in july I thought you were well over 200K, u rly deserve more recognition for ur amazing work
i feel like she overdosed, if you guys remember how elliot told rue that she shouldn’t be drinking on whatever she took because it’s dangerous. that might be what made her overdose
I also liked the comparisons to Cal and Cassie - the driving scene where she has her head out of the window drunk mirrored Cal's drunk driving in this episode, and the pan from him drinking to Cassie drinking makes me wonder if this is some daddy issues coming up for Nate - he imagines this beautiful life and family if only him and Cassie could make it work, but is that him longing for stability like he wishes he had in his own family life? He used to say he didn't like his mum cause she was so emotional, but I think it's actually his dad who is the really emotional one and the one he feels like he always has to take care of. Hence the "wear your seatbelt" and Cal scoffs. It's like he always felt like he had to parent his parent (in their very dysfunctional way)
I think sam said he has like this vision that when rue gets high she like goes to this other place and I think depending on her mood when she gets to that high it takes her to a different place, for instance the church this ep. I think the church scene is to symbolize that she wants to be better but with the song being sung it’s saying how hard it is to try to be better and that it’s this fight with herself to stay here or stay alive. She misses her father at moments like this and wants to see him and receive comfort from him. I think the pastor and her image of her father are one of the same clinging onto death but also that her father would want her to keep on trying. I don’t think she od but she may of been on the cusp of oding. I do think something happened to her tho, maybe someone came in after the scene with her dancing with herself and knew she was high. Mayb Gia cause she is crying in the next ep. Mayb she go missing idk
I was kinda figuring that Cal said his biggest regret is the mom. If you think about it, he was in love with his best friend and before he could truly express himself to him she got pregnant with aaron...
I know we’re talking about Cassie hitting a whole new level of low but can we give her some props for actually shaking Nate up a lil bit? 😂 I think that really threw him off. Nice, sweet, quiet lil Cassie going off on him and making threats is not what he saw coming
Cal’s delivery was absolutely disgusting towards everyone, but whenever he told Nate he regretted him ever being born. i think what he really meant was his regret of failing him as a father. Cal can probably see & now understand (bc of Fez telling Cal about Jules) that Nate is very close to possibly being like him or is like him already (being bi) & that’s Cal’s own fault… “sins of the father”! hopefully this was a wake up call for Nate bc he still has a chance to not turn out like his dad (anger issues, nonchalant, selfish, a**hole, & not being able to own what he truly is/truly wants.), but the question is will he have the strength to do so!? that’s my theory & i could be wrong of course, but that’s what i got from Cal saying that to Nate. Nate’s character really is a mystery though. i’m so interested to see what he’s going to do from here.
Finallllyyy!! I be waiting for your recaps right after the episode premieres 😭 I’m obsessed! Not to be a bully but Imma need you to give us euphoria videos quicker 😂
literally just two episodes ago jules was crying because she thought that rue had a crush on elliot now she's the one hooking up with him. it's just so annoying to me. then on top of that her and elliot get alcohol with rue there then get mad at her for drinking like??? it was so inconsiderate and hypocritical. like clearly elliot never cared for rue's sobriety/even safety so him doing that didn't shock me but jules?
anyway rue not narrating this episode was very eerie u could really tell that something was up
Jules is selfish and implosive she knows if rue finds out they would kill her and she will do rue wrong if anybody shows her a glimps of attention she’s head over heals she’s low key a narc she’s only thinks of rue feelings when it’s convenient
I’m mad at Jules
@@shakanuhglorie8444 right cause she knew that anna girl she hooked up with for about a day then came talking about shes in love with her like???
and the whole time i thought there was no way that jules would just let rue out of the car on the side of the road.. i was in SHOCK when she did! and then she went back to elliott's to hook up with him without even checking to see if rue got home safe
When Cal tells Nate, “You are my biggest regret.” I interpreted that as “I failed you as a parent.” I think of it as Cal acknowledging the generational trauma he passed on to his son.
he could've just said that but instead, he left a big trauma behind him
I hope that’s what he meant (that would make sense after that season one scene when he speaks about his life to that stranger), but I’m afraid it’s just poor writing for shock value. This season is so disappointing smh
it clicked for him when fez told him about nate being in love with jules but dating people like maddy and cassie
@@haley2018 I don't think Nate is in love with Juelz. Nate did all that catfishing to make sure she didn't expose his dad. Fez had no idea about that so he assumed that Nate was in love with Juelz.

Rue with her drug problems, and Jules with her commitment issues
I can’t believe people are stanning Cal like he didn’t maliciously traumatise his whole family.
some people even had the audacity to praise him for calling Nate his own son a mistake, it's so evil for a parent to say that to a child

How Maddy directly looked at Cassie when she said "Marry" was wild. She's definitely putting things together. Also it was nice to see how Kat and Maddy have each other's back. Maddy was completely there for her when she was venting about her guy, and she was had hers in the hot tub.
i feel like it was VERY intentional. she was ONLY looking at them
I feel like Maddy somehow already knows about Nate and Cassie, and now she’s just kind of toying with them to torture Cassie in a way.
I think you're looking to much into it. She was looking at Nate who was sitting next to Cassie.
Sometimes it’s fun just to speculate ☺️

@@lona9461 yes, exactly, thank you for saying that. Let's remember that he wasn't born bad, it was his toxic environment. That is actually, the saddest part for me. I felt super bad for everyone in that scene, could feel everyone's pain
Relatable 😭 I felt bad for him at this moment, no child deserves to see that
Right it was quite interesting 😭
This!!!! 👏👏👏
Well said. In this show I see all the characters to doing shitty narcissistic things, none of them are victims
i LOVE this take

Also WHY the plotlines from season 1 are still not addressed? Like that thing between Nate and Jules, Cassie’s story with McKay (he’s been in this season for like 5 minutes and then just disappeared, and everyone forgot about the whole abortion thing??), also Maddie having the disk of Jules and Cal? The Anna girl that Jules hooked up with? and so many more questions left unanswered:(
This season feels like a completely different story tbh
exactly! but minor detail, i’m still wondering about how maddie and kat are good friends now but when we left off they weren’t good… and how is maddie so good and normal with jules after she watched the tape?
That’s most likely why Kat and McKay have barely any screen time this season I think.
it’s seems like a alternate euphoria timeline where half of the stuff from S1 didn’t happen
Getting. Worse.

It's odd how the woman just gave away 10K in drugs(originally was going to be 50K) and didn't explain prices or anything.
Yes!! I think so too
@@bris_art She explained price and how much she expects back and how much profit Rue can make but obvi Rue didn't care lol.

I think there’s a lot more to Rue story that she either blocked out of her memory, or hasn’t told us yet. Just my theory..
@@GirlDo3 but what did happen to Derek? Maybe i missed this part, but how did the story turn out?
As much as loved this episode, it is becoming increasingly aware that euphoria is using pretty, but riched-in symbolism, shots as way to hide the lack of an overarching plot. we are on episode four, and mckay has been completely written out after bign SA'd and kat is basically nothing to show. It's annoying that when try to criticize this someone says you lack critical thinking skills. don't get me wrong, I still love the show, but this season definitely has some problems.

Jules really cried and had a fit but turned around and hooked up w elliot 2 wks later
And vice versa Elliot
Sooo the pastor is actually Labrinth and i think it plays a bit of All of us which is the song that Labrinth described as Rue's almost salvation song. The song that says she has a chance of beating her addiction. Also i think it's interesting how while Jules has done some not great things but also reacting in a way that shows her trauma people are so quick to hate her. Im not here for her cheating on Rue obviously but when you think about it Elliot has legit been manipulating her as well. Feeding into her insecurities, saying all the right things. Im just saying wheres all the hate for Elliot??
YES THERES SO MUCH HATE ON JULES AND THERE HAS BEEN BEFORE SHE EVEN DID ANYTHING WRONG !!
elliot orchestrated that whole thing, it was his idea to buy the alcohol, he pointed out that rue shouldn’t be drinking (knowing they would fight) then he knows Jules is gonna want to sleep with so he reveals the truth about the drugs to make himself look comparatively better than Rue
i had no idea that was labrinth! that makes the scene so much cooler
@@imuRgency IKR!!
Rue was narrating when Jules was going down on her saying she might as well have been going down on her ankle 😹

So is Jules confused about her sexuality?
Okay so everyone is hating on my girl Cassie and I kinda agree she’s a mess this season. But omg Sydney’s acting is amaaaazing! The scene with her drinking and dancing and getting wrapped up in the balloons was gut wrenching. Girls got a lot of trauma and pain and Sydney does such a good job showing that. Also, the scene with Nate where she says “I’m crazier” and the look on her face was prime acting.
ms sydney needs to be in horror movies bc she’s devour
Agree!
Boy is today your lucky day
I do not believe Elliot actually felt bad about fucking rue up that evening, when he didn’t even do the drugs with Rue and then went and brought her around alcohol knowing it was gonna be a bad idea. Then literally left a teenage intoxicated girl on the dark on the side of the road who’s suppose to be his “friend.”
I don't think they would just leave her like that tho. I don't think Jules would have agreed to it. Plus we see Rue arriving home with her bike.
@@fleuve4737 No she didn't bike that was a gate on the side
"Cal" said in an interview that Nate was his biggest regret because he failed to end the cycle of fuckedupness and toxic masculinity/sexual frustration
I also think they missed a huge opportunity to talk about male sexual assault with Mckays character and I’m really disappointed that it isn’t going to be explored as far as I know
Eliot and Jules getting involve was something i saw coming but i was still surprise. Also the last scene with Rue reminded me of liability by Lorde
Plus, she's in the same position in her room when dancing.
so THIS is what zendayas warnining meant!
I think its gonna get worst💀

A lot of people don't like that this season is too focused on metaphors and being artsy, but I actually love it so much. It's what makes Euphoria unique and I've been wanting a tv show like that forever.
Same. The scenes are so well thought out and beautifully shot, it’s captivating. Also, the music combined with the cinematography is amazing like in the scene with Labrinth singing in the church and Rue standing there hugging him (her dad in her mind) is gut wrenching and a lot of it is the timing of the music and camera angles in my opinion. I totally agree the metaphysical aspects of the show are what make euphoria…euphoria!
without whose artsy scenes and that music it would be just another teenage drama
I think what triggered Cal wasn't Ashtray but Fez. When he told him Nate was in love with Juul🤣
But seriously that's why he said Nate was his worst regret because he realized the moment Fez said that, just how much wrong he had done Nate.
Smart
Yes! I like Lexi and still think she's least problematic but what you said is exactly why I felt weird seeing people praising Lexi after 3&4 ep
Literally yes! I can’t stand her behavior and will never be cheering her up for acting like the most horrific sister ever, so selfish and careless
@@samstylinson9921 y’all act like cassie hasn’t been doing the same shit since forever??? It’s Lexi turn
Like he made himself look like the “better person” in comparison to Rue by telling Jules the truth, so Jules is going to be more upset with Rue than Elliot.
the scene without zendaya in the church was the best scene throughout this episode. it made me cry
THE MUSIC
Very good psychological analysis.
@@grillimauste8871 makes sense
But he did experiment and experience stuff before aaron was born - remember that part where he tells aaron at the end that the first time he had ever had sex w a man it was when aaron was still in his moms belly...
This could make sense but he also could just be a creep
@@ananyaa2001 that could have been the night before Aaron’s mom called him
I think Elliot just thought Rue was into drugs but kinda had a handle on it like he seems to have.
I think he realized that when she was drinking in the car just like you said!
the first time they met at the new years party, didn't rue almost OD in front of him though..
@@feya1621 Maybe at the time he thought that was an isolated incident but this made him fully comprehend the extent of her problems.
Not the perfect rationalisation, but that's what I got
@@calvinkhumalo9780 hmm that's definitely possible. sucks either way but oh well
I think all of these characters are acting and reacting to things psychologically in a way that makes sense.
So hypocritical right. I think that scene just further illustrated how Elliott and Jules where forming a stronger bond and now Ru is the odd man out.
She’s like a pick me in way she wanted rue to look bad in front of Elliot so he would choose her over rue because she’s the more stable one .
I don’t think Rue overdosed. She was standing at the end. Depending on the drug she could be hallucinating.
(Yes, the shift in their dynamic can be attributed to Rue's relapse and downward spiral, but Elliot's character was not needed to illustrate it.)
Jules' arc over the past season and a half centered around the revelation that her gender validity is /not/ contingent on male validation. The special episode, beautifully written by Hunter Schafer, was a nuanced exploration of expression, presentation, and perception. All of the growth has been diminished. Having her seize the first opportunity to cheat on Rue with Elliot perpetuates biphobic stereotypes.
i agree heavy and it doesn’t seem like rue even likes elliot romantically or physically
@@MN-wo2lv of course she doesnt, who said she does? she likes elliot because he provides her drugs, i think thats pretty clear
@@timesup2812 that was his cousin and I think it just insinuated he was being closer than friends with rue/ he has a crush on her
@@moveslikeninja1 a lot of people think she likes he romantically and it was alluded to in the first episode no need to act like that
i was laughing cals entire speech 💀
Episode 4 is definitely a turning point. I also love how they incorporated pop culture and art from Mexican culture as well
4:50 I said the exact same thing.
Cassie really gave me second hand embarrassment this episode 😭
I absolutely love how your accent changes when the mood strikes you LOLOL. I’m so happy I found your channel, your reactions are amazing! Keep going and good luck on the road to 100K!!!
Okay but can we talk about Lexi though for a sec... bc that scene where she was auditioning girls and having a flashback to how she’s directly treated by Cassie hit too close to home. I see so much of myself in Lexi and have had identical scenarios like that being told to mind your business when you care about someone going down a bad route
lexi using her play is a coping mechanism is so sad bc you can see the emotions she wanted to give off in comparison to reality
@@MN-wo2lv yes!! And because she’s seen as the “good child” no one EVER pays attention to her

But considering how the season is being set up I dont see that happening :/
omg you grew 2,000 subs in one day! deserved! love your breakdowns
wasnt there an other kid in the photo frame cal picked up and left
Yes, they still haven't addressed the 3rd son. Im ready.
@@bris_art yes ma'am 🙌
It's like a fun gossip session!!!
this is such a good take!!!
that shot where rue was high as hell dancing in her room like she was hugging her dad gave me chills

Elliot is definitely scheming, and is trying to manipulate both Rue and Jules. And idc how many montages or back stories they show us of Cal he can choke!!! But I loved this weeks episode lol
Scheming or purposely manipulating I don’t think so he’s just a teen and made a mistake he’s definitely not like Nate.

You're analyses are so in depth and give me a whole new perspective and appreciation of each episode and I am shook every time! 😍 😍 😍
I really haven't seen anyone talk about the fact that Jules' mom was also a drug addict. I'm sure how Jules reacts and handles Rue's addiction has been influenced by her relationship with her mom. But that's still not an excuse for the messiness of their relationship with Elliot.
I'm upset with Rue's mom 😕, she wasn't even drug testing her anymore. I'm still waiting to hear what's going on with Kat and her boyfriend.
i’m just saying now you can keep on waiting bc the likelihood of getting scenes of kat is slim since mr sam hates when people criticize his writing
@@MN-wo2lv I find it weird that when Sydney Sweeney wanted to make suggestions, Sam listened but when Barbie did it, he just cut all of her lines.

Can we talk about why there are 3 boys in the family photo at the Jacobs household instead of 2?!!
omg i know right!!! why isn't anyone talking about it!!!
It's like he always felt like he had to parent his parent (in their very dysfunctional way)
I’m seriously worried for Fez tho like the baby mama coming around..
When he called Cassie Maddy I audibly gasped. Oop-
The start of the video, that “wow” I felt that
