    I fished for Halibut in Alaska,,,,,i used a Chum bag tied off to the anchor chain. I bought can's of Tuna packed in Oil,,,,,,,,pour that into chum bag with other goodies. The oil leaves a trail for them. Just be careful a Killer Whale doesnt grab your chum bag and start hauling butt like happened to us. Bigger the bait,,,bigger the Fisk also worked. Good Luck

      I fished at Deep Creek, Ninilchik for my Halibut,,my Dad caught a 284 lb down there. I hear the fishing has gone down at Deep Creek,,,Charters are like 350.00 now and you can keep only one. My biggest was 150 lb,,,but we caught 100 lb all the time back in the day. Mainly in 80 to 100 ft deep water

    Another great video. When I was out two weeks ago with my friend i rigged him up with a chrome and green flasher. Mine was rigged with a chrome flasher. He caught 4 keepers, 1 bass, and 6-8 shakers. I caught 2 keepers, 1 bass, 1 shaker for whatever that’s worth.

      when I take my kids out (7 & 9 yr old) I stay on channel 16, that is coast guard. I show them how to use it every time we go. So if something happens to me its ready for them to get help. Boaters are on 19 generally in sf bay/ocean. 9 & 11 are used in different areas. 68-69 seem to be a common ones too.

    Another informative vid, thanks! Do you prefer an incoming tide versus outgoing when halibut fishing SF Bay? Reasons?

    • @ChrisPfish2
      @ChrisPfish2  Год назад +1

      early season outgoing because it warms water up. After that the incoming because it cleans the water up visibility wise.

    • @aProudOG
      @aProudOG Год назад

      @@ChrisPfish2 Thanks…I never associated outgoing tide with warmer water. I’ll certainly keep that in mind for the future. Seems water has warmed sufficiently in central SF Bay as I’m starting to see good halibut reports from there in addition to those that have been coming almost exclusively from the south bay.

    Why are you netting 20" shorts and then letting them flop on deck? Anyone with your experience should be able to recognize a 20" without bringing it on board.

    • @ChrisPfish2
      @ChrisPfish2  Год назад

      oh come on dude. I see you have been watching for years. Lame comment, you know I take good care of the smalls. I thought that one might of had a chance. It was 1.5" short. Did you see the 3 smalls before that one, no comment about releasing them on the side of the boat i see. Go take your shit some place else

    • @andrewbland625
      @andrewbland625 Год назад +1

      @@ChrisPfish2 I have commended you in the past for good release practices. But really, why bother with a fish that might barely hit 22 inches? Your freezer must be absolutely packed with fish...you really need a 22" halibut? I still think influential RUclipsrs like you should use and promote barbless hooks.

    • @ChrisPfish2
      @ChrisPfish2  Год назад +1

      @@andrewbland625 So you would rather see people take 32" vs a 22"? I think thats the stupidest philosophy. The big ones are who we want breeding. If keeping a 22" prevents you from keeping a 32" later because you have limits that is good in my book. The big ones are good for showing off and pictures, boost that ego. I havent kept as many halibut as you must think. My last video was first limits of year and its May. I fish about once a week. I like giving fish to my family, friends and employees. I dont have a freezer full. I see you have a youtube channel, what happened, no one watched so you decided to criticize others on the platform.

    • @andrewbland625
      @andrewbland625 Год назад

      @@ChrisPfish2 I agree, but all I'm saying is anyone with a bit of experience can recognize those small ones and doesn't need to net them. The halibut are taking a real beating this year and it will only get worse as nobody will be targeting salmon. Here's hoping DFW lowers the bag limit.
      Yes, I have a RUclips channel. But I prefer quality over quality, hence less content.
      And by all means, release those 32 inchers!

    • @ChrisPfish2
      @ChrisPfish2  Год назад +1

      @@andrewbland625 My point was you have watched me long enough to know I take good care of the undersize fish. I have always talked about it. You can tell in the video I was hesitant on the size, I wasnt completely sure in the water it was short, I get them out of the net as quickly as possible. That one stopped flapping. If they dont I grab there tail. I hope they lower the limit as well.
