Hi Jake, yeah the underwater footage is always my favorite to watch when I get home. That was from only a few minutes down there. I want to go back and get some of those lings.
Nice video. You guys are brave taking tha little boat out past the gate. I have a similar sized boat and I dont go much farther than the berkeley flats, even on a calm day. Your trip looks to have been one of the calmest days I've seen out there. Good work.
Hey Chris great video as usual wondering if you can do a breakdown video one of these days of your gear reels, rods, line etc that you use while out in the bay . 🤙🏼
thanks for checking out the video. If you are curious about the depths google, sf bay depth chart. 1st or 2nd link is a great map showing all depths, I found it very interesting. Below bridge is over 200+ feet. I was in 50-100 feet. Hope you enjoyed the video? Thanks again.
@@ChrisPfish2 I hope so. Being Zodiac and tin boat based, not to mention using a hybrid sailing rig, I need to launch directly onto the ocean since a bay run isn't as feasible for me.
First the snag, would have been great if you had the tag end and were able to pull up a good pot? As long as you didn't lose the camera! I always like to see the underwater footage, it shows how the fish bite and that's a big help. Thanks for the vid, I'm going nuts up here in the hills!!
Yo ChrisP, love the channel! Have you ever snorkeled or spearfished? Since you like using the camera, you might like getting down there and looking at things up close...
Happy you enjoyed it, thanks for checking out my videos! Good question, you can tell the tide is slower by subtracting low tide from high tide and dividing by how many hours. So if low is 1, high is 4 over 6 hours you got half(0.5) a foot of water moving in a hour, thats slow. fast is low 0, high 6 in 6 hours. 1 foot per hour. The graph in the pic illustrates it as well, the black line doesn't move up as high on the chart. Current is faster when more water is moving. hope that helps?
Great videos! Been watching for awhile now. Just curious where do you buy your round crab pots from? I crab a lot on the central Oregon coast and the round pots you use look like high quality pots.
look good but can you please give me the lat and long wend you are fishing out of Half moon Bay ??? And the daft . Thank you. I have a boat in H M B. And sport fish with a friend
angel produces big fish in april every year but you need to start using anchovies watch the cameron twins fishing they show great footage of angel island....
No I was thinking about that before I dropped them. I was in front of baker/china beach, hard to tell in the video. I was dropping in 50-70 feet. Thanks for checking out the video, I hope you enjoyed it?
ChrisPfish yes I did, I only asked because in the photo it did look close to the shipping channel. Maybe I’ll see you out there sometime I have a red 20 foot Boulton skiff, name one the side Defiance.
Good vid Chris, I’m headed out to paradise on Saturday did you happen to see people in the pier or on the shore looking for somewhere to fish from the shore any ideas?? I like paradise but I’m open even rock wall ??
Hey, random question for you - is there any Dungeness upstream of the Carquinez Bridge? Is it worth trying? I'm in the Sacramento area and looking for possibilities closer to home. I'll likely head out past the GG Bridge like you did sometime... I'm glad to see that you don't have to go too far out for results, although I do have the range to (theoretically) hit the Farallon Islands. I'm still very much getting the feel for things in this area.
you can only keep dungeness crab caught in the ocean, not the bay, so it needs to be outside the GGB. They like salty water too. Thanks for watching and good question.
@@ChrisPfish2 Thanks for the quick reply! I'm not sure if it's new/different since I've been away from CA for a long time (I was born in Concord)... but by my read, the Fish & Game regs ban Dungeness specifically in SF and San Pablo Bay. The Carquinez Bridge is mentioned as a boundary... that's why I asked. You're right about the salty water though... it might not be salty enough. IDK? Maybe a good experiment for you? Check it out!
It’s illegal to ziptie your crab pots closed in case they become lost then they become a fishing trap a zip tie defeats the purpose of the rot cord which all traps are required to have as of 2019 season.
Aww thats right, never heard the rule but yeah I know about the cloth rule, totally makes sense, thanks for that. You got the best intros in your vids out of any fishing youtube I watch! Thanks for checking out another one of my videos, appreciate all the support!
It says the day it was posted on youtube, i release them 3-8 days after i go as it takes time to edit. I dont post the dates because if it happened yesterday its old news to fisherman, which will turn into less views. Thats why. Thanks for watching and the comment
no, just came across the the hat a few years ago. Became my lucky fishing hat, now I own a couple since they get dirty fishing. Kinda my signature look at this point. Thanks for watching!
No sorry! Should be a good time with everyone losing their jobs. Some people will start selling there boats. Dont look only in bay area. Look Sacramento area too.
I use a small black cotton thread to tell if the trap has been opened. Poachers don't notice it as it breaks easily and It rots quicker than the rot cord in case the pot is lost.
sorry about that. That is one of my earlier videos. Each time I make a video I learn more about recording and editing. Thanks for checking out the video though.
Glad no one poached those pots, except maybe the first one!
Great video and fun day. Crab/Halibut feast!
Great job out there. Nice haul on them crabs.
Thank you! Yeah i think I dialed it in a little on ware to drop them for next time. I had two on rocks pretty sure. Thanks for all the support!
thanks for putting up the tide info and the date!
very helpful.
your welcome. Try and paint the best picture of what the day was like that I can so we can all feel the experience. Thanks for checking out the video!
