Can I take cod liver oil if I'm taking 10000 IU of vitamin D, or should I decrease the dosage? Which is best among the three: cod liver oil, salmon oil, or krill oil? Can I combine salmon oil and cod liver oil, or is that too much and might it lead to toxicity? Can I combine them with vitamin D? What dosage should I take, and which type of magnesium is recommended? Also, which type of CoQ10 should I consider?
Pills made in the factory are not the best because they are standardized in the processing and /or get rancid in storage. Better is cod livers in the can (Icelandic brand or others) and fish in the can (Gold Seal mackerel and others) containing omega 3 oils.

@@drstevenhulme well 3 capsules is kind of overdose. I got inflamation on my nose after consuming fish oil. ended up with nasal polyp had to go through minor surgery to remove that polyps. So becareful of consuming fish oil. Heart burn also one of the side effect I have experienced.

I work exclusively with geriatric patients. Due to the increase risk of Vit A toxicity in this population r/t poor metabolism. Would you encourage Fish oil over Cod liver oil?
I’m afraid I couldn’t say, it depends. If you have reason to worry that someone would be prone to vitamin A toxicity, and given cod liver oil has around 175% of the recommended amount, you would have to decide whether the benefits outweigh the risk or whether there is a better alternative.
Technically the liquid will be better because your not consuming the capsule shell. The advantage of the capsule however is that it doesn’t have to be stored in the fridge and just tends to last longer. It’s also more convenient.

astaxanthin is an excellent all round antioxidant with many health benefits. But make sure it comes from Antarctic waters, good ones will have this on the packaging, and store it in a cupboard away from light.

I wouldn’t advise it as the amount of omega 3 you’ll get would be very high. Cod liver oil already has all the benefits so I would go for that one if you want a variety of nutrients.

Most cod liver oil is more processed than people are lead to believe, even the biggest known brands, they have a processing method which includes heat, the processing removes much of the natural nutrients and many of them are added back in with "Natural" vitamins, which although aren't 100% synthetic, are still not 100% natural and are synthesized using sunflower oil and other things. Two of the only brands that allegedly don't use those methods, and don't add back in questionable vitamins, are Nutrapro and Rosita, Nutrapro even has lab test results right on the product page (For people avoiding heavy metals and impurities) I bet Rosita has that too somewhere. However all of the brands ARE cod liver oil, regardless of quality or additives, at the end of the day it isn't as much as a big industry as vegetable oil is, which is a scam in every way, I doubt even 100% real olive oil is healthy, but maybe it's one of the only decent PLANT oils, that and coconut oil.@@nw8000

The two most important and highest quality Cod liver brands have full lab tests you can see on their website or ask of them (Nutrapro's has lab tests right on the website). So you can see exactly how pure their product is from heavy metals etc. Second of all, we need animal products, simply catching the fish is not a problem they multiply fast, however the issue of polluting is a completely different issue unrelated to fishing. Fish oil is fish oil, Cod liver oil is fish oil extracted from the Liver, as I hope you know, Liver is the most nutrient rich organ or body part in general of any animal. Thus oil extracted from the liver of the fish is much more nutrient dense, especially in Vitamin A and D. And fun fact, COD isn't just FISH in general, COD is a specific type of fish.

I buy codliver oil for horses in vet quality. Fill it in jars and freeze it. Keeps fresh for months and the taste is nearly neutral.

I’m don’t take fish oil so can’t recommend a specific brand but you ideally want extra virgin (least amount of processing possible).

I take 3 capsules everyday as instructed on the bottle. I don’t know of any side effects and certainly haven’t experienced any issues myself

I prefer a higher amount of DHA for brain health and cognitive function, so cod liver oil is for me.
