    Hey Caleb, if those are in fact fixed and non floating calipers in the back you’re gonna get a ton of pad knock-back because the c clip in the axle allows a ton of slop. Detroit drifting co uses wilwood D154 calipers that have slide pins to fix that problem. Tried to DM you this when I saw your IG story a few weeks ago.

    • @_Gingium_
      @_Gingium_  11 месяцев назад +15

      Yeah, didn’t have time to address the issue atm. Wilwood recommended I just do a c clip eliminator but I guess those don’t work for this axle?

    • @ProfessorLX
      @ProfessorLX 11 месяцев назад +3

      C clip eliminator will require modifications to the axle tube, but definitely not a big deal. Every 8.8 diff user that drag races ends up doing c clip eliminators

    • @alep_sn9550
      @alep_sn9550 11 месяцев назад +5

      @@_Gingium_ C clip eliminators would “fix” the issue per se, but no c clip eliminator currently on the market is rated/intended for side load. They’ll either kill themselves or press out. The Strange tapered roller bearing ones are alright, but still not recommended, especially if you ask Strange. Only real solution for drifting is sliding calipers and c clips.
      You *can* supplement the c clip play by shimming the axle spider gears in toward the cross pin before you weld it so when the cross pin is installed there’s no play of the axle in and out but you’d still need sliding calipers with that setup.

    • @alep_sn9550
      @alep_sn9550 11 месяцев назад +3

      @@ProfessorLX it’s fine for drag racing but like I said in my other reply c clip eliminators HATE side load. Drifting has almost direct side load on the rear end, so C clip eliminators are highly discouraged.

    • @ProfessorLX
      @ProfessorLX 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@alep_sn9550 ahhh, I had no idea, good to know - thanks! hopefully Gingium follows your advice, you dont want a pedal that goes to the floor when you need it and you dont want to endlessly be replacing the bearings in your c clip elims!

    So I saw this awesome thing on a race car, that they incorporated springs into the brakes. They put some sort of spring into the caliper behind the pistons. They do that for floating rotors. So I would reach out to wilwood. Maybe they can help you sort that out for your rear breaks, to help with the light movement from the axel.

    It looks like the brake lines will end up with some wear from contacting the strut. It'd be better to run a shorter line from your new frame mounted bracket to the bracket on the strut, then a hard line from the bracket on the strut to the caliper.

    dual 4-pistons seems like quite a lot... TBH it'd be nice if there were 2-piston fixed calipers (one on each side) for the handbrake. If stock brakes can lock the rear, that's all you really need. I just don't like floating calipers because of uneven pad wear and binding if you don't lube it or w/e. Plus the assembly's more of a hassle to deal with, handle, and put together.
    *EDIT:* DUUUUDE, you're coming in CLUTCH with the dual caliper bracket files for send cut send! THANK YOU!

  • @zakwig

    Tip
    There are GM and Japanese rear axles that use a bearing retirement system instead of C clips.
    Find the bearing replacement kit for one of these axles that has the same dimensions as the Ford diff and retro fit it .
    There is a flange that is fitted to the axle that bolts to the diff housing to retain the bearing, the bearing is pressed on after this flange is slipped into place, after the bearing is pressed on a retaining ring with a very tight interference fit is heated slightly and pressed into place. The axel is then inserted and the flange is bolted to the diff housing flange.
    All parts should be readily available except for the retaining flange as it might be different to the ford axle flange bolt pattern however you should be able to get them new or second hand and either modify or replicate to suit.
