I think the truck looks a lot better, but I’m very excited for the full wide body! Box flares would look sick, like an e30 bmw body kit might fit the style of the truck
Yeah if it was me, I would've started with the 4X4 fender and bed base, and cut the stock metal in sections and built the box flares from the metal directly on the truck.... IDK if he knows this is what can be done.... otherwise, even if he got matching round flares for the back and a wider wheel and tire with a fitting offset to match the front, it still would've looked pretty damn good, but having a "widebody" on just the front looks silly 😅 Edit: disregard my statement, it seems I paused and commented a second too early as literally after commenting above and continuing to watch, he said he "might" do exactly as I said 😅🤣 If he reads this, think pie cuts, for fenders, just cut them in sections and bend them to the desired shape, otherwise, make some box metal over fenders with all the stuff he's got around and then weld them up and finish.....done
The flares being so round for the wheel well makes it look a little funny to me as well. The metal wide body might be a little hard to fix in the instance of a crash, but I’m stoked to see it. As for the rest, The skirts look really good, but I would add the parts to at least the sides of the rear of the bed as well, it’ll look pretty good and level it much better I think. As it sits, the rear is higher than the rest by a good bit
This truck has really shown your progress on engineering and fabrication. I remember watching you take Molly to car meets still living with your parents. This is the quality I want to see at SEMA also, something that shows true skills. Been following your build while I build my Honda k20 turbo swapped 73 MGB roadster, throwback to the Datsun roadster build also.
Those old fenders look so much better, I'm glad they're back on the truck. I also really think you should stick with that exact red; it looks beautiful and it's part of the drift truck's identity imo
I’m old enough to remember the mini-truck scene from the early 90s. There were some wild body kits for mini truck back then. The Truxarossa definitely stands out in the memory banks. And I don’t mind the flares. I think it looks better than 4” of tire sticking out.
Cannot wait to see you learn how to make your own widebody kits. Future builds will have so much more potential with that under your belt. I'm sure some day you'll be doing body stuff just as crazy as what they do on B is for Build
That vented fender idea sounds so fucking sick. I think you should keep the front trackwidth wider! If you don't like the way it looks you can always widen the back later.
A Group B / DTM style would be my thing. Something like a Golf Rallye / BMW M3 DTM. Either steel or fiber stuff. With a plasma cutter I think you could do some magic if you went with steel. The flare you have there now is going against every other line that the car has. It totally destroys the boxy feeling and the look of the car.
I was not minding how the truck was looking when you put on the body kit, but I agree the fender flares don't really work. But I'm only saying it because you said it, so it's a minor issue in my mind because you did need to do something about all the wheel poke. Also, I love the idea of wide bodying the truck out.. I kinda hope for the back you can find some fat looking tubbies and make the truck look a little dully pickup if that gives you any fun ideas to work with.
I’m so glad you going with a custom wife body front and rear getting it to the same track with going to be a killer custom truck…….. the fabrication in your videos is what keeps me watching
custom metal fenders isn't the way to go on a drift vehicle; easily replaceable plastic fenders is. what you have now is perfectly functional and will look sick with a wrap+livery
This. Also I’ve never seen a proper drift car without a much wider front track than rear. I really hope he doesn’t change it for all the people who have no idea how to build drift cars
@@fadariansmith1043 box style flares are easy enough to build and they wouid look sick. it's just not really worth it to go to the trouble on a learner vehicle. fenders get banged up immediately, and I would always prefer tear-off plastic ones over custom-built sick ones
I've been thinking since the beginning that it'd be really cool to use two 2wd front fenders on each side to get it wide. I think you could keep the 2wd fenders for the front and top, then add a second 2wd fender as the wider portion, probably cutting it down at certain sections to make it look very intentional (I'm a big fan of the 2wd fender look, but whatever you prefer) So here's what I'm thinking: maybe at the front, cut the outer fender straight down (with a curve following the headlight line) maybe a few inches back, which could be made into a functional scoop or just be open. The sides near the door could probably be kept original, but probably easy to get creative there. The tops, you could probably add an easy flat panel where you could add big fender vents, or maybe just keep it wide open with only the braces showing? I love the narrow look of the truck, think that looks so cool. I think doing it with two fenders would keep the narrow look and not need to do any of the body work to get the area near the headlight to work. Feel like it'd be really easy to make that look goofy and not be totally happy with it. This way, I think you could keep the original body lines much easier and make it all look more *right*. Whatever you end up doing will look great I'm sure, very sick build!
Not gonna lie the underglow caught me totally off guard, but I love it 😍😍 I love the look of cars driving on the road with underglow, and to see it drifting? That would be way sick
The kit looks freaking dope bro 🔥 I honestly wouldn't touch the front. The front looks perfectly fine, I would focus more effort on making the rear match the front.
This is the first video I’ve seen since you first got the “new” shop , I stopped watching due to a bunch of personal reasons but I’m amazed at how far the drift truck has come since then, Now I have a lot of videos to watch up on !!
You might look at pre-runner style glass fenders. Idk, if they even made them for that body style of the Mazda truck but it might be worth checking into.
For widening the fenders, to make it look good around the headlights you can take inspiration from the 306 maxi or the 205 t16 rally cars. But overall, it is super sick truck
Looks sick! I do think it would look more complete with the rear wider and with some kind of body extension behind the rear wheels. Overall awesome though.
Hey I know you were thinking about fabricating a wide body but these trucks have a large aftermarket for prerunner parts and I would love to see some of those really wide fiberglass bedsides slammed going sideways, I think there’s a lot of potential in fabricating those parts
I love this build series, in fact you inspired me to do this but with a fwd truck that I converted to rwd and put a volvo t5 engine in it, keep up the good work man
TBH metal wide body sounds amazing. But it has to be super functional so that it keeps the chances of breaking low. IMO some Audi style box flares would be amazing, and the truck already has the body line to make it wider in that style. I could help you design or sketch that out Favorite car content as always, keep up the good work!
i agree the fender flares are not great compared with the rest of the body. For me, the rear is perfect like that, flush with the 4x4 bed. Plus you dont necessary want the same track width front and rear cause you loose alot of side bit. So if it was my truck, the rear stay like that and eventually make something better for the front, something more square. Also i think this type of flare look better when its cover only the top of the wheel, so cutting almost straight at the level of the molding of the car/truck. anyway awsome videos man and very nice projet. you work really well
I was thinking the same thing you was haha It does look good, though. I definitely can't wait to see what you do with the metal wide body, though. I bet it'll be sick. Loving the videos, dude!!!!
in my honest opinion, your already half way to a wide body truck, the front wheels poke out and for the rear you just need a wider axle and your all set to get your self a wide body for her.
I love your truck. I like how you think and the way you approach the mods. I look forward to seeing what you come up with for the front fenders. That will be cool.
Factory TRD flares for a KP61 starlet, google them, theyre round over the front and square at the back. Copy those but for this truck, it already is a boxy 80's vehicle it would look absolutely perfect.
Loving the drift truck content! Can't wait to see it all one color! Built official is on your side of the country and builds one-off wide body kits for his cars! Might check out some of his stuff on RUclips for inspiration if you haven't already!
Iirc the rear axle had an off-center diff, and one side was shortened to make it centered and symmetrical. If you could get another of the same axle and lengthen the shorter side to match the longer side (or lengthen both sides of the current axle), it would probably come a lot closer to matching the front track width.
I'm not sure if you've mentioned it in another video, but do you have plans to paint it? A metallic maroon would be fire, and would still allude to the original color.
In the last video where he fabricated the truck he said that the very last thing will be to paint the truck. He intends on doing a complete tear down after the truck is dialed in. Could be wrong tho, just what I remember from the last vid.
It would require a ton of plastic/fiberglass work in addition to the sheet metal fab, but if you widen the entire front clip from the middle instead of adding on the sides I think that would look the best.
There is an English RUclips channel called The Anarchy Garage, they have made a wide body kit for a Mercedes Estate. Basically they just brought another car, cut the front and rear wings of that car and welded them onto the project car with a piece of metal filling the gap. As you already have another bed and another set of from wings you have everything you need. There car was supposed to look rough but I’m sure you could do it and make it look like it is supposed to be there.
Sideskirts looks great! Fender flares might look nice but it desperatly needs similar track width in the back. Nothing will look right before that's sorted. The difference is just to big to ever look great.
To widen the rear track, you could get a wider 8.8 from an early 80's Ford F100 pickup. Extra width, and same bolt pattern with the F100, not F150. Just an idea.
