  • There’s a stigma in the Chiropractic profession that may cause hesitation when considering seeing one: does getting neck your adjusted or “cracked” cause strokes?
It is every chiropractor’s professional & legal obligation to have this discussion with patients whose neck they will be adjusting. This video was made to address any concerns brought up by potential patients seeking care for their neck pain, headache & discomfort.
Here, we will be going through multiple studies that examine chiropractic usage and rate of stroke occurrence, comparing it to primary care physician visits and rate of stroke occurrence, and answering the question “Do Chiropractors Cause Strokes?” with data and evidence.

Cervical adjustments should only be used as a last resort for severe neck ailments. Most of the time, the “benefits” are not worth the risk of stroke. Even though no studies can prove causation, there is a strong correlation between neck adjustments and stroke. This makes sense since the arteries are in the neck and the practitioners are twisting the neck. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that type of violent motion can possibly tear the arteries. Most chiropractors do not do a thorough history to rule out stroke or to find potential contraindications for neck manipulations. The chiropractic profession has been banned in many countries which is not a good sign. Studies show that it’s as effective as a massage or physio, and those do not have serious risks. More chiropractors need to admit the dangers of neck manipulations and thoroughly inform patients about the risk reward ratio. Otherwise, we’ll see a lot more cases of healthy young people dying or becoming disabled.

I think every chiropractor should help fund a comprehensive study on the most common manipulations used on people and see a before and after view of a person's spine using some kind of imaging and check on arterial blood flow. Also, "prove" a lot of the claims made by chiropractors over, say, stomach issues such as digestion or gas. I don't think subluxations cause SIBO, low output of digestive enzymes or bad eating habits. Chiros tend to easily step over the line into the "Quackery Zone" and that's only going to hurt the profession.

@@Thegringopapisorry for the late reply, let me make this short as i can, it all started early last year when suddenly i started feeling a burning and numb feeling running down my left leg which started restricting me from walking far/too far without stopping and resting until the burning and numbness fades then i can make couple steps again until it start's again and i just have to keep repeating the process until i reach where ever was my destination, i went through that process until October 22nd i then decided to go to a chiropractor to see how he can help me with the pain/burning/numbness/feeling like needles pricking me etc, he then connected his machine to my body/spine then i felt lots of vibrations, he then told me that i'm suffering with a herniated disc which is causing sciatica nerves inflation, he proceeded to crack and twist my spine, hand, leg, whole body etc, then when he cracked my neck to the to my left i heard a creack on the right side of my neck, by the time i walked out of his building and reach in my friend car i instantly started to get shoulder, neck and headache, i thought at that time it may fade so i thought nothing much of it at the time, but then after 2 weeks i still had the headache so i called him and told him what's going on with me, he told me " remember i told you that you have sciatica very bad so it will take sometime to heal " so i decided to wait it out a bit again, he did ask me to return to him to check me and see what's up and to get a prescription for painkillers which everyone told me not to go back by him so i did not, the headache will continue coming and going occasionally, until 1st week in December i went to do a site visit to prepare an estimate for a new client for a project (i'm a builder) and is only then when i tried to write the measurements and info i needed to prepare the estimate it's when i realize i can't write and something is wrong with me i literally couldn't hold the pen to write, thank god i went with one of my worker who wrote for me, on my way back home is when i instantly started getting these excruciating headache again (only) on the right side of my shoulder, neck and head, then the headache came and past , so with me thinking this is stemming from sciatica based on what the chiropractor told me,so i decided to take a rest from hard work to see if my body will heal itself, so i decided to go back out on march of this year thinking to myself that all will be well, on the 1st week back to work on the monday and wednesday my left foot started going haywire on its own and i fell and couldn't walk until about 15 mins on monday then i started to walk and about an hour on wednesday i started to walk, then on Thursday it happened again this time it was worst i fell and couldn't walk until about 2 hours that's when i called an ambulance to rush me to the hospital, it's only then after test the doctor came and told me what is going on with me which was that i had a blood clot on the right side of my brain that affected the blood flow causing an ischemic stroke , i ended up sending message to the chiropractor and told him what he had done to me, he replied telling me that i'm dunce and illiterate and i need to go and do some research because that's the first time he ever hear any kind of madness like that and threatened me about trying to defame him the threatened me about hearing from his lawyer soon then he blocked me, but i just left it like that, although i can just use my other sim to call or message him and i'm still waiting for his lawyer letter as he claimed, i'm still trying to gather my evidence and find money to surprise him by filing a lawsuit, but waiting for all my proof from the doctors of the clinic i attend who is willfully taking long to give me my info because they all protect each other, if i was wealthy it would of been a different story but because i'm a poor man we get treated like dirt, that's how it is in this country called Trinidad & Tobago, even the social welfare refuse to support me because i don't have a utility bill on my name, the name that's on the bill no one knows ho to find him so i can atleast get a letter to prove that's my address and my house i inherited from my stepdad who no longer live in this country, but i will keep faith and with god's grace he will take care of me 🙏 sorry for the essay 🙌

Don't think people come their pre stroke, pre stoke u will be in the E R room, neck pain is not an indication of a stoke. Look at stoke symptoms or pre stroke symptoms. The point is your cracking and using high velocity manual manipulation at the upper neck were the brain is, brain stem, spinal cord, Vegus nerves and important arteries are, their is no doubt that when you crack someone their you will stretch them and they can get injured. Although its rare and you are trained it minimize these risks, its still their and its not a risk worth taking as that part of your body if irritated can be fatal or life changing.

I have a severe V4 arterial stenosis.. dove into a pool at age 18.. in labor at age 21 husband was helping with my body / neck pushing very hard to hold pushing position at my head and neck and shoulders, had severe headaches age 30-45, found adrenal tumor , headaches stopped after the adrenalectomy at age 45. No headaches since but found at age 73 to have this stenosis, no symptoms, except for high Bp. I’m told I can’t get it stented.. I wonder if the stenosis is from the pool accident .

    • @DrAdamCSolis
      @DrAdamCSolis  4 дня назад

V4 arterial stenosis (narrowing) may refer to multiple different things (atherosclerosis, calfcification, dissection (yikes), direct bony compression etc.)
I would say that saying your jump into the pool causing arterial stenosis at age 73 is a bit of a jump. While I suppose it's possible that the trauma may have started an exceptionally-long chain of events that culminated 65 years later, I'd argue just as readily that depending on the form of stenosis (specifically direct bony compression, as this falls within my scope of practice/understanding), that you developed the "normal" bony degeneration that occurs in 95% of the population reaching an elderly age, albeit in an unfortunate location.
I am obviously not speaking to the other forms of arterial stenosis, as these are outside of my scope. Also understand that this is simply my gut feeling with a limited health history and no physical exam (aka not medical advice).
Thank you for your comment & support - wishing you a long & healthy life!

@@speaktruth9313 Removing bony degeneration outright is a surgical procedure , which I can't comment on specifically.
What I can say having a concept of the anatomy is that the using a bone shaver in a very small space while millimetres away from a very important artery seems... unwise in all but the most dire circumstances. Managing the symptoms is a significantly safer route.

This is an astoundingly irresponsible video: On the 13th of this month, my 33yo daughter was one of the 5.something million (you say) who had a stroke after an adjustment. She KNOWS the adjustment caused the stroke, as she felt a fluid rushing immediately. The surgeon has seen several of these. It's not common in general, but it IS the most common cause of stroke in young people. I pick her up from rehab today. Her life has been seriously set back. It also can have consequences on the lives of people you love.
Things expressed in this video do not line up with both what we are hearing from both her medical and rehab doctors. It's absolutely NOT worth the risk!
Isn't it amazing how many of the one in 5.85 million people found this video? OR maybe it isn't quite as rare as you believe. (I note you aren't responding to posts like mine. This is very telling.)

    • @DrAdamCSolis

      Hi Nancy,
I’ll respond to this as you are going through what is likely one of the scarier times of your life, and your anger/fear response is currently targeted at me, a random internet chiropractor. This is also for anyone who has been affected negatively and now see some kid online (me) talking about how “this is a totally safe thing to do, right?”
First off, I am very very sorry to hear regarding your daughter. My immediate family has been afflicted with a life-altering, non-recoverable illness over the past 7 years and seeing my mother progress through it has wrenched my heart - so I feel the urge to reach out to you as a mother as well.
You are correct - it is entirely possible that this was the movement to trigger a stroke. They can happen with manipulation, sport/activity, or even something as benign as checking your blind spot or sleeping on your front. As you also say, it is not common. Ofcourse, strokes are incredibly serious and life altering - this is not to be underplayed.
My sources listed within the video were all published in renowned scientific journals after peer review. This means that they were reviewed by both the authors of the study, and other researchers non-associated with conduction of the study, to ensure scientific and statistical integrity. When we compare reviews to individual experiences, we risk overgeneralizing and being incorrect more often than anyone would care to admit, both myself and your doctors included. To illustrate this - I previously worked at an adjustment-heavy clinic with 2 older chiropractors who had been adjusting necks for 40 years. With an estimated 40 patients a day, 4 days a week, a conservative 614,400 neck manipulations between the two of them, and no recorded VBIs. Can we confirm that manipulation does not cause stroke? It would be irresponsible for me to say “ofcourse it doesn’t!”, because that’s untrue. And ofcourse, you know from personal experience that it is untrue. What I or anyone “believes” has nothing to do with it - what people smarter than myself have documented, recorded, and reproduced is what matters.
Having people whos lives were affected by a VBI finding this video is very unsurprising. Given how SEO works online for both Google & RUclips, any mentioning of the words “chiropractor” and “stroke” will make finding this video more likely - and following a personal involvement with the issue, one of the first destinations a grieving family member will go to is internet research. This is an example of a selection bias.
As for what is worth it or not, that is for the individual to decide. As a parallel example, ibuprofen (advil) is associated with renal (kidney) syndromes, including acute renal failure (this is not the case in “healthy” patients - same as manipulation and stroke). Is advil worth the risk if you are experiencing a headache? I say probably. But to some people, maybe not.
I do not believe that anything I say here would change your opinion or thoughts about what has happened, but wanted to comment as I empathize deeply. Emotion and personal experience nearly always trump logic and statistics - that’s an innate part of being human. Not sure we’d want it to be the other way around? What I will offer you is that practitioners are legally obligated to go through the risks of the procedure with every one of their patients prior to treatment. If the chiropractor failed to do so, you could very likely bring them to court for malpractice. While this won’t undue damage that has been done, it may be beneficial in some other way.
Wishing you both (all) a speedy recovery and health indefinite

Thank you very much! Those numbers are ridiculous. If I'm one of those 23 so be it.
My dad had a stroke after one of his many chiro/kine visits, but he also took ZERO care of himself.
I have a hunch caused by a deformity in my neck and I would like to receive some tender cracking and massaging for more comfort and less pain.
My dad is in a coma for 5 weeks now because of a popped aneurysm. When you never see a doctor and think you're smarter than everyone else.... 🤡
So now my mum and sister started fighting with me to not get treatment because my dumass dad got a stroke from "neck massages" and definitely not his unhealthy life style.
I told them I'd rather take the risk or all my heart medication at once. The dumb faces they made when they realised I'd rather die than let them control me 😂
Thank you again for the info and numbers.
