This week we welcome Kat to the channel!

As a physician, I can testify that I have had 2 patients paralyzed from chiropractors…. I wouldn’t EVER let one of these people touch me or my family…. They are not doctors.

Hi doc! Thanks for your comment and for watching of this video. I can imagine you’re extremely busy, especially if you’re in Canada like myself! I want to respond to you because you’re a fellow healthcare practitioner looking to help others with their ailments. Firstly - there is ALWAYS a risk of stroke (and subsequent paralysis) with neck manipulation. This should (must) be discussed with every patient, alongside a thorough neuro exam to be safe. Despite this, there are still always scenarios where this occurs, and we hear about those on the news outlets. Informed consent and understanding are key. Secondly, never do anything that you are uncomfortable with as a practitioner. If you are hesitant or outwardly hostile to the concept of seeing a chiro for you or your loved ones, all the power to you. I would however ask that you watch another one of my videos here: Do Chiropractors Cause Strokes? ruclips.net/video/eCL7GEYxGhk/видео.html Here I list out several studies and the mathematical probability of any one patient receiving a stroke following a neck manipulation based off of these studies. Some of them are authored by Scott Haldeman - both a medical and chiropractic doctor and considered a leading authority on MSK/Spinal care. I like to try and tackle these heavy questions head on whenever possible. While I never expect to change opinions on the internet, I do aim to have conversation with people whom I think it may be beneficial to. Being a physician, you are in a powerful position to help people, as I have for both my medical doctor patients, as well as the patients they refer me directly. Thirdly, I’ll assume in your comment of chiros not being doctors, you are referring to us as “not medical doctors”, which is entirely true. If you mean to undermine or demean a profession based on personal opinion, rather than legislative law, that’s rather petty and I feel for all other non-medical doctors, too. All the best, Adam

There is without question a risk of dissection. I am recovering from it now. I was not having neck pain but upper back ache. My chiro tried to relieve this by tugging my neck and I ended up in the ER with a double dissection. All the doctors in my care for my case said it was from the adjustment. I was not having neck pain like this before the adjustment, it feels like a knife going into the back of your head. Even drinking too much water has a risk, Tylenol has risks. Dissection from a neck adjustment is a very real thing, to say otherwise would be wildly irresponsible and unrealistic. I have months of medication and pain from this to recover from. I am lucky I listened to my instincts and went to the ER before I had a stroke. This should be discussed in length before any neck adjustment, that the risk is there, how vulnerable those arteries are under manipulation and what the symptoms are if they are not immediately presenting in the office. Any patient already coming in presenting with neck pain should get a CT with contrast to rule out already having issues with the arteries to begin with before the neck is touched at all. I learned a lesson the hard way and I truly feel that a lot more discussion of risks vs reward should be discussed before this is attempted. I see too much of this now as a trend that many probably do not even need and just enjoy how it feels, that is not something as I Chiro I would feel comfortable encouraging if this could happen to a patient in my care.

Why TF don’t you study physiotherapy? Why try to legitimize the scam business that was created by a cult. You’re literally engaging in the textbook example of pseudoscience. Find a conclusion then start building evidence. Evidence based chiropractor < physiotherapy.

Chiropractors can treat back and neck pain if no other complications are present such as a broken bone. Where my issues arise are with chiropractors who try to treat outside their scope. "Treating* cancer, heart issues, eye problems, cholesterol, etc. While an adjustment may relieve some neck/back pain. Chiropractors have ZERO business trying to replace medically based treatmentz
