  • When you think Australia, you may think football, meat pies, kangaroos and... well that other brand that's no longer around, but there's another Aussie icon that's still going strong. We speak of course, of the Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series.
    For decades the 70 Series has been known for its ruggedness, reliability, and off-road capabilities, as well as being one of Australia’s most dependable vehicles in the outback. That's thanks to its V8 powerplant, only this isn't that vehicle.
    Instead, we're testing the new for 2024, 4-cylinder turbo diesel automatic. It's a combination that has raised the ire of the purists, but may well be the future of the 70 Series. The new donk and transmission isn't the only change though.

    1. If you don't have the money for the V8's fuel consumption, just buy a Fortuner or Hilux...
    2. "A good 4X4 is built, not bought". The V8 needs a tune - and it becomes a beast! While a tuned 2.8 cannot beat a tuned V8.
    3. The 2.8 sounds dull and boring, while the V8 with a freeflow, just sounds epic! (Pity one cannot fit a loud exhaust to the 76 SW, since it causes an irritating "drone sound" at highway speeds, due to the outlet being under the passenger cell. The pickups doesn't have such issue with a louder exhaust)

    So is there NOT a manual version available!!!? Why would Toyota not give the option. I have a manual Discovery 2 TD5 and I live it. I drive 350 to 500 miles a week and never even think about changing gear as a drag, I enjoy it. The 76 series is in my opinion the only car that replaces the Disco 2 but not having a manual option really disappoints me! I just don’t like auto’s.

    Hello great video just a quick question we cannot get this one in the UK but I can import one so this means I cannot just go test drive one based on the same model in your video could this be a daily driver and a prt time off roader I have seen videos and some people say they are more like farm trucks ?? are they really or are the 2024 a bit more refined ( for want of a better word ?) regards Dave in the UK

    • @ExhaustNotesAustralia
      @ExhaustNotesAustralia  Месяц назад +1

      Hi there. The 2024 model is definitely more refined than the model it replaces, but they are still quite farm truck oriented. That said, we know a few readers who have done a few bits of work to them (improving suspension and tuning engine), and drive them every single day.

    • @Michael-Masi-2021
      @Michael-Masi-2021 18 дней назад

      I just got back from a month in Botswana and Zimbabwe. Please let me tell you the straight truth. The Land Cruiser 70 is utterly unrefined and basic, and that's what you want when you're in the Okavango Delta and the last tarmac was 100 miles ago. Unless you plan to go very off-road all the time, buy a Prado or Defender or Range Rover or something comfortable.
      These sell well in Africa and outback Australia for a reason.

    I have watched so many of these about the 2.8 Vs the V8 but we do have them here so you all assume everyone knows the answer to this question! NONE of you EVER refer to the V8 as petrol (gas) or Diesel. WHYYYYY! You all talk about the four cylinder 2.8 Diesel being more economical than “the V8” but you never say “more economical than the V8 gas” or “more economical than the V8 Diesel” so because you emphasise the Diesel when mentioning the 2.8 but say nothing about fuel when referring to the V8 one might assume that the V8 is a gas engine but then you talk about different types of intercooler so then I’m confused! Please put me out of my misery, is the V8 76 series gas or Diesel?? Because if it’s Diesel, I want one! Never mind the economy, I’ll get that back in the difference of price! Come on, please tell me it’s Diesel. 😜
