We did a few book studies this year and loved it!!! Using a lap book looks awesome!!! I wouldn’t have thought of doing a book study in 2nd or 3rd grade but maybe I should push my youngest when she’s at that age. I could be too gentle!!! I’ve not heard of moving beyond the page but that study looks awesome!!!
I don't homeschool my child, but I've created literature guides for him on my computer and printed them out. At almost 12, he's too old for the type of guide you showed in the beginning. I just used happy, colorful fonts to guide him to write down the names of all the characters, the settings, the themes, and chapter summaries. I also included pictures and maps to help him understand more of what the characters faced in the book.
We ended up getting and trying moving Beyond the Page it was a bit overpriced for us but it had loads of great ideas, the science and research assignments were fun and crafts which my son enjoyed, I will say we will be taking some activity ideas from it moving forward but I don't think we will be using it again this year maybe next though. Thank you so much for the video it helped us pick.
I'm so glad that the video was helpful! We really enjoy the Moving Beyond the Page, but only 1 or 2 times a year. It does have great ideas, which we like. So glad you enjoyed it!
I already had the book, so I just purchased the guide from Rainbow Resources. All of the materials we used, we had around the house or went to my dad's workshop to look at the tools.
It's really amazing. You can purchase a unit if you don't want to use the whole year. Every workbook includes a little bit of LA, History, Science and even math at times. It's super easy to use. Some say it's very repetitive but I personally enjoy reviewing with my child as many times as possible to make sure she gets it but if your child gets it right away you can totally skip the pages. It's Charlotte Mason inspired so it's not too overwhelming
Thank you for letting me know. We've never used Novel Ties although they look like a very solid curriculum for literature studies. Which ones have you completed?
Thank you so much for this review. I’m definitely choosing Moving Beyond the Page for next school term. Curious about the grade level. What grade level would you say it is?
I'm so glad to hear that it was helpful! Moving Beyond the Page recommends this study for ages 8-10 and I would say that is a great range. We did it when my daughter was in 5th grade and I really think 4th-5th grade is a perfect age for it. Hope you enjoy it!
Loved hearing about these different guides! We have used progeny press but it was great to hear about other options and your all’s takeaways.
Thank you so much!!!!
we've been using Moving Beyond the Page off and on for 6 years 😊 nice to see it in videos here and there.
Thank you! We are loving the Moving Beyond the Page studies that we complete each year!
This was great. My son used several literature guides this year, and Moving Beyond the Page is one we did not use. I will have to check that one out.
Thank you! Yes, definitely check it out. I'm planning on doing at least one next year (maybe two...depending on timing).

Thanks for sharing Moving Beyond the Page. I get overwhelmed when I look at their website. If I want to use it like you did, what exactly to I order?
