I saw ride back in the day in Manchester. My ears have never recovered, loudest gig I've ever been too. Miss those days. 51 now listening to bts with my daughter, ah well.
First saw them in 1990, fall ep tour £3.00 a ticket! and yup! bloody loud! i was 15 and it was my second gig I attended up to that point! then their set at Reading 1992 was astoundingly awesome! despite the weather being incredibly shite!
I am a huge fan, enjoying this video 3 years late. Loz, Steve, Andy, and Mark all have more talent than any other band I care to be a fan of. Its cool to see how a song I've been listening to for 20 years lives on stage. Mad props.
when i saw this there was a dude right in front of me in a white shirt that was jumping up and down, having the time of his life. if you're reading this man give me a holler
Good on you lads. I remember hearing Taste back in the day on an indie compilation album called Happy Daze, and I loved the track but never explored Ride further. For some reason in 2018 I looked up Taste, which led me on to a whole load of other Ride tracks and performances on RUclips. Absolutely loving the band and their sound.
The bassist is megacool as well, don’t forget him. Keeps everything anchored when the other guys ”sail away”. They couldn’t do it without him really. Great musician. This music is so much more than ”shoegaze” isn’t it? Brilliant band and a brilliant performance. 5/5.
Have always loved Ride. Just ran across this performance when looking for bands I latched onto in the 90s. Mark and Andy make those guitars sing! Although known somewhat as part of the Shoegazer phenomenom I never bought into that because to my ears they are more akin to The Stone Roses than any Shoegazer act.
@@csh8403 MBW were the founders & the unique issue but it's too bored for often listening on my opinion & they aren't Merzbow too). Lush, Asobi Seksu, Yuck, the Jesus & Mary Chain, the Joy Formidable, No Joy, Film School, Tamaryn, Six by Seven plus Cocteau Twins (dreampop), as prefounder for all of them, & Sonic Youth together with Yo La Tengo, on the frontier (noizerock), are more melodic for me (you call it "pop", OK) but I love MBW so much too. I like not strongly enough "clear" shoegazing & prefer the blend: shoegazing + dreampop + rock/noizerock. "Get the balance right", how sang DM )))
Broke my heart a little when he said "next is Charm Assault from our new album" and kind of shrugged it off when there was minimal reaction :/ Weather Diaries is a good album.
i think the crowd didnt know them. festivals breed people for other music. when old music comes on they dont know and then they bring out new music to boot they dont know what to do. despite the shit reaction they still played a blinder. their new album is my album of 2017 for me. awesome awesome band
PS in my band Paddle to the Sea, I also use a hollow body (a Jay Turser, I know, it's a knock off) and my second guitar is a Bigsby! The hollow body gives off some great feedback and noise lol
terrific sound all-around. tight vocals/harmonies. bass isn't muddy. and i noticed, unless i'm mistaken, that their amps aren't mic'd. that's some REALLY great guitar tone straight from the amps....i wonder if it sounded as good in person.
Andrew Daller they are mic’d. Probably running a blended DI signal too, to thicken up. Either way, the sound guy has done a tremendous job, they sound bloody fantastic!
I just watched the live show from the Town and Country Club in 1991, then came to this. Total opposite crowd, people were actually excited and jumping around back then. They don't seem that into it here. Is it the changing of the times and this just not popular music as it was in the early 90's, or is it that people have changed? I wish they would make the time machine already - I'd go back in time to those live shows where people were still excited about music.
I'm gonna be honest with you, I was excited for Ride just as much as anybody, but the recording and the actual event are two different stories. Ride was definitely playing with a back track live and it was obvious when it cut out just how padded their sound was. This band isn't the same band that performed in that club.
If only the crowd knew exactly who they are, and what they have done for music....static crowd, they'd probably 'poop' their collective pants if that was Coldplay. Then probably go home and watch 3 seasons of Grey's Anatomy back to back.
coldplay also totally ripped off dreams burn down by ride in their song "in my place". ride did so much for music man if only they didn't start to fade
The years have not exactly been physically kind to Mark and Andy... but it's great to have Ride back again. One of my favorite '90s bands, and they still sound great.
My girlfriend at the time used to go on and on about Mark and his hair so there's a certain satisfaction that I ended up with more than him . I still can't sing or play guitar worth a shite though .
Polar Bear is one of my favorites. I saw them do it at T5 in NYC on the first US leg of the reunion tour. Still Brilliant! They have tried harder to be even better then the 90's for the fans and they have.
I cannot believe that RIDE is back and better then ever. Not many 90s bands can achieve this. Go and see them! LIVE!!!
vvvandsons im going to see them in 4 days!!

The 90's still lives. A good musician is a job for life.
Well said, friend
Man Andy has so many cool guitars.

Vapour Trail = Goose bumps each and every time
probably one of the best songs ever made
Literally THEE greatest summer vibes song I’ve heard

Most underrated and best band ever.
Sharmel Ali been saying that for 20 years! The truth
Are you sure ?
I had many friends (i'm french) who were fan.
I missed their last year because my daughter'birthday).
Dömmage.
No, there are better.
Seen them in 1992 Poole Arts Centre, one of the best gigs I ever went too! Great having them back :)
thank you thank you thank you don't stop please
2019年の来日公演最高だったので、また日本に来てください
Absolutely stunning, new album is amazing,Ride just get better...
The first track is outstanding. Shoegazing forever
One if the best performances of vapour trail i have seen...just stunning.
Nice. Brings me back to the 90s (the golden age).
when i saw this there was a dude right in front of me in a white shirt that was jumping up and down, having the time of his life. if you're reading this man give me a holler
Hey, man! I think it was me. My friend and I had a little too much to drink and I was so pumped.

A tip : watch movies at KaldroStream. Me and my gf have been using it for watching a lot of movies during the lockdown.
@Nova Silas definitely, been watching on Kaldrostream for months myself =)
@Nova Silas Yea, I've been using Kaldrostream for since november myself :D
You can thank us Brits for the best bands on the planet! :-)
I saw Ride with Lush at the old 9:30 Club in Washington D.C. - 27 years ago. Fabulously loud and exciting show.
LUSH👍👍👍
Holy shit!! THANK YOU, Pitchfork!!!
Vapour Trail and Dreams Burn Down are definitely describes my feelings
Ride are still as good as ever. I hope they stay together and keep releasing albums. And keep coming back here to the US on tour!
Leave them all behind is really fantastic 👍 thank you guys 🙂
The sound person did an absolutely amazing job with this! Two lead singers, two lead guitarists… perfectly situated…
This is an amazing live performance and beautifully recorded, a pity they didn't play longer!
Never heard of RIDE before seeing them at Riot Fest in Chicago this past weekend. VERY ENJOYABLE band. Every song was wonderful
I'm fond of Mark and Andy singing together.. WONDERFUL, EMOTIONAL !!!!!
Great performance. Love this band.
Cali sounds just awesome and All I want, it's just brilliant !

The sound production on this video is top notch!
Ride is listened to by angels and the keenest ears on earth...
with some bands you can really tell when they just lose that thing they had, Ride sounds fresh and clean and the new album is great
In other words, they never lost it. 🙂
Drive Blind fucking classic track, these guys sound as good as ever.
I love to hear them live...truly amazing band and sound too!
Only the coolest of the cool will comment here-Ride is a treat for music lovers. Thanks Pitchfork!
They're pretty uncool these days tbh
First time I've ever been classed as cool! :-D
Love when the drummer gets really warmed up during Taste! Spent most of my 20s listening to these guys.
great drummer
great vibe. gonna see these guys in about 1 week. can't wait.
The bassist is megacool as well, don’t forget him. Keeps everything anchored when the other guys ”sail away”. They couldn’t do it without him really. Great musician. This music is so much more than ”shoegaze” isn’t it? Brilliant band and a brilliant performance. 5/5.
They're still awesome!
Saw Ride last night in Madison, WI. Lannoy Point was a highlight.
I missed them 😭 while they were in my area. I’m making it up by watching more live shows lol
Love "Cali".. Live version seems better than studio here.. A testament to the soundmen/engineers at Pitchfork.... Thank you.
love how they start the show literally shoegazing
stiflingluxury well that is where the name of the genre comes from lol
Madurajñy
Total yes!!
Pure class! all the best from Brazil.
God bless Loz Colbert
Probably the best drummer I ever saw live.
He’s the Stewart Copeland of his generation
He's a legend.
he used to be my drum teacher!
@@theorb21 Are you serious? That's amazing!
What an INCREDIBLE set!!! I didn't think they could improve on the recorded version of All I Want? I was wrong! Wow!!!
Ride + Slowdive:
best shoegazing bands
I think Swirlies and Pail Saints at their peak might be better - but taste is individual.
It's My Bloody Valentine and everybody else. Ride was/is a good pop band.

Slowdive & Lush
Mbv ride and slowdive the undisputed holy trinity
Mind boggling how they coordinate to go back into the chorus after the feedback interlude. Ace.
The taste just slips away.
What had the Gallaghers done to deserve Andy Bell, so gifted.
Piano boogi Ok ok
He was playing in Gay Dad, I'd had chosen Oasis any day over that.
Noel knows where the talent is... he picked up Andy
Les musiques de RIDE et OASIS sont complètement différentes.
boss koila Andy Bell was part of Oasis
Looking forward to seeing you at Crystal Palace Park this Saturday
Broke my heart a little when he said "next is Charm Assault from our new album" and kind of shrugged it off when there was minimal reaction :/ Weather Diaries is a good album.
"at least worth the try" . new album is fuckin great
Not bad. Pity they completely abandoned the great sound of their best album Carnival Of Light
So many people scream about certain albums, songs and they're soon forgotten. RIDE fans are a humble group.
I agree the new album is great, I much prefer it over some of their later releases.
i think the crowd didnt know them. festivals breed people for other music. when old music comes on they dont know and then they bring out new music to boot they dont know what to do. despite the shit reaction they still played a blinder. their new album is my album of 2017 for me. awesome awesome band
It doesn't get much better than this...
So GREAT!
Up there in my favourite 20 Ride tracks
Leave Them All Behind
best band ever
Going see them 14th Nov in Edinburgh. Can`t wait!
and what a gig it was
Long Live Ride
What a band!
Love these guys...dream ticket would be Japanese Breakfast/Ride/My Bloody Valentine!
PS in my band Paddle to the Sea, I also use a hollow body (a Jay Turser, I know, it's a knock off) and my second guitar is a Bigsby! The hollow body gives off some great feedback and noise lol
Because this is the best.
Ride is one of the best shoe-gazing band
Bliss ..forever ride !!
Ahhh bliss.....one of the truly unique guitar duos ever. Then there's that bass and drums section - rude!!!
First you look so strong
Then you fade away
The sun will blind my eyes
I love you anyway
terrific sound all-around. tight vocals/harmonies. bass isn't muddy. and i noticed, unless i'm mistaken, that their amps aren't mic'd. that's some REALLY great guitar tone straight from the amps....i wonder if it sounded as good in person.

this was so good.
Incredible
wow what a band I just discovered
I love the old man's motion at 24:58

shut the fuck up
Donald Trump Jr. nah you first
coldplay also totally ripped off dreams burn down by ride in their song "in my place". ride did so much for music man if only they didn't start to fade
good old times
Wonderfuuuuul!!! :)
Amazinggg
very good gig
Conciertazo!!
They never play today? Wtf? Its their best
Seagull sounded awesome!
Leave them all behind!!
I wonder what the sound guy with the beard and gray beard is doing on the stage, he is quite good at hiding behind the drums
Great stuff🙆😘
they must be living right. still have the magic.
The years have not exactly been physically kind to Mark and Andy... but it's great to have Ride back again. One of my favorite '90s bands, and they still sound great.

Wow
Shame they don't play "Polar bear" anymore
...and '"Birdman" !
You missed London when they did the whole Album. So funny, they nipped out halfway through the gig for food! Only RIDE!
