I still remember where I heard Vapour Trail for the first time. I was completely blown away with how beautifully structured that song is. The strings, the amazing drums, the guitars. To this day I don’t think there is a song that is so perfect. You can’t change anything to make it better. Been a Ride fan ever since, I bought a bunch of their albums that day.
I saw Ride in September this year in Sheffield, UK and they performed Vapour Trail, minus the cello solo, the audience filled in by singing that part, it was amazing, such a classic, iconic song.
RIDE for me was a game changer in the early 90s growing up in Southern California. Punk had died years earlier, and I for sure wasn't gonna be into shitty Grunge! Thankfully I discovered RIDE, the stone roses, Catherine wheel and chapterhouse to save music going into the 90's. Years later right before the RIDE reformation I got the chance to meet and talk with Mark up in the high desert of Southern California. It was during his solo era playing a psychedelic festival near yucca valley. As I sat with him near the pool we discussed music, and other things about life in general. He asked me about growing up in California, and we had a really interesting conversation that lasted about an hour. At some point he asked me "So Paul - if RIDE were to reform, do you think there would be support"? A bit shocked I enthusiastically replied Yes!!! 100% huge support! I will never forget that conversation with him, and regard Mark as a very genuine person and class act. So glad they are back! Long live RIDE.
I don’t believe Steve Queralt has changed a bit since Ride’s debut album days. They’re all in their 50’s and time changes us all eventually if not sooner, but he is the least-talked about Ride member and to me THE absolute coolest. Terrific bass player for a terrific band that I’m thrilled got back together nearly a decade ago already.
The word "Underrated " is used far too often in music. Here is one example, where one of the best groups of our time, were not given their due around the world...yet.
@@StainedGlassStories Yeah to that! During Covid I ran my fav underrated music series for my friends. At the time I rated "Leave them all behind" (Long Version) as my fav song of all time. Still gives me shivers listening to that song to this day. Two masterpiece albums and with two comeback albums, the last really solid all the way through, it speaks for itself.

OX4 isn't pronounced 'ox' '4', but 'O' 'X' '4'. OX4 is the postal code for East Oxford, where I used to see the various members of the band kicking around in the early 90s when I lived there... on buses, in bars, at the football when Oxford played at The Manor... It's a song about yearning for home.
Saw them in 1992 and again late last year. Though 30 years had passed, they were better than they were 30 years ago - and they were bloody good back then! Their energy and unity as a group is simply amazing. One of the few bands who translate well from the studio to the stage. They are unique.
I was only marginally aware of RIDE and their music, but that changed in a hurry after I caught their show with the Charlatans in Houston last week. Now I’m wondering-“How did I miss out on this band the first time around?!?” Better late than never, I keep telling myself.
I'm 62 and heard them on a local independent radio station in Tampa FL (WMNF) and the Nowhere album changed my musical journey. It was like an extension of the beauty of The Beatles. I've been a RIDE and Swervedriver fan ever since!
RIDE are one of the main reasons I ever started a band. I had deep classical guitar and orchestral roots as a child. I decided I wanted to ROCK, after a friend lent me "NOWHERE" at school. Layers of "beautiful noise" and harmony , which others deemed as just "NOISE".
One of my favorite bands. Nowhere is a top 5 all time record for me. Carnival of Light is my next favorite. My son is planning to see them along with The Charlatans when they play in Denver this year.
Great band, wonderful documentary. Ride was one of the very first gig I've been in october 91. Weather Diaries is a great album. They were performing many old songs in their tour which was great.
Thanks for making this video. I only heard this band for the first time last night thanks to a random RUclips recommendation, and you've totally fleshed them out to me by showcasing both a lot of very cool music and a really interesting biography made with editorial thoroughness and great visual flair. Great job, I've thoroughly enjoyed this and I'm still only 14m in.
I saw them on both the Nowhere and Going Blank Again tours in Minneapolis. I’m so jazzed to see them on the upcoming US tour that I, at 54 years old, am traveling to Madison to see them and the next night here in Minneapolis. Yeah. I love them THAT much…
I’m so happy I found this channel I’m getting into shoegaze and just finished your Slowdive documentary! Stoked to see more content from an active page!

Yup, saw the CD single for Vapour Trail, bought it, and was instantly hooked. Genuinely surprised bc as a teen in Tucson AZ all I was looking for were bands that started with "The" ha ha ha
"Leave Them All Behind" hit me at the right time. It was the perfect swansong when I graduated college and had to leave behind some of the bad relationships and friends I still fondly remember and love today.
I saw Ride at the Great British Music Weekend at Wembley Arena in 1991. I was nearly hospitalised by he crush at the front when the came on, Ah was the excitement surrounding them.

Anyone have a recording of the show at the Jericho Tavern in June 1989? That was the show where the band performed the Madonna tunes. How about the show in December, 1989 when they performed the Blondie tunes? I'd live to hear both.
Thank you for the hard work that goes into all your videos. Having said this, I can say I finally made up my mind about whether or not I like Shoegaze, Dreampop, etc... Unfortunately, I don't. I'm glad all the bands you cover have existed to inspire other bands I love, but much like with, say, The Sisters of Mercy and the Rolling Stones, I only love the former. The so-called Classic Rock beloved by artists I admire is just not for me. Same goes with all this ethereal stuff, I'm happy to know where some artists got their ideas and approach. When i was in this indie scene in Glasgow in the mid/late 80s we didnt like the terms shoegaze or twee. And back then it was closely interconnected with people into 1960s music and style. So i always called it 'the 60s/indie scene'.
Hey Nate do you like the sundays? Harriet has the most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard. Also do you think that fleetwood Mac might’ve been an inspiration on dream pop?
I do! The Sundays are a great group and I would love to make a video about them at some point. That's a great quesetion about dream pop. I've always thought of groups like The Beach Boys and The Byrds as dream pop influences, but I think I can see it in Fleetwood Mac a bit too. Great group.
I can honestly say we never used the term ‘shoegaze’ in Australia in the 90’s when listening to or referring to any bands like RIDE or MBV etc. I don’t think it was even a thing at that time. Just cause bands like RIDE focused on playing their instruments and didn’t jump around on stage or have those flashy, generic rock band affectations that were popular in mainstream music.

Cool, one of my all time fave bands , but there are 3 more songs after Vapor Trail...song 10, Here and Now is my fave song on the album.
My Mate is seeing them this Monday.

Cologne 91 Luxor i was there YAY
Have you covered any transient random noise bursts yet?
with announcements. don't forget that bit
Ride = The Byrds (whole discography) + Shoegaze + Big Star/10( twister Ella). Teenage Fanclub = The Byrds (first álbuns)+ Alternative Rock + Big Star.
Ride y the verve son mis bandas favoritas
