    HI,just stumbled across your vids ...subscribed! enjoyed latest one first/ I was puzzled that you said cooper was a,65 "D" reg was 1966 but you said something about it coming from USA. Fantastic condition also your mini van. I went to Rome in 1965 via sth France and Switzerland with 3 mates in standard mini .had boot lid down all the way to make more space for camping gear. WE blew head gasket near Rome and broke rear suspension/roof rack came loose/ we got them fixed and got back home,,what a holiday. I was only 20years old then, I bought an old minivan for £40 in late 1960s good fun. My college friend bought a new one in 1963... only about £360 then hard to believe now, Saloon was only about £450. You wondered what symbol at bottom of wood steering wheel was It looks like 2 L,s stood for Les Leston, he sold lots of car parts in 1960s. I,m Ford person now ,got a new Mustang ,envious of your nice wide garage and nice door..Chat again with you when I've watched the rest of your vids .Bye for now.

      @@classicminidetails8887 I've had 3 mk1s all built 65 but registered D.
      They built a lot of 1275s in 65 for homologation reasons . This and the high insurance rate left many unsold and stood around till 66 and were registered often over a year after being built.

    Taking the number roundalls off improved the look no end and I'd leave the "Speedwell" studs on cos they're period correct and a little hint at what it can do. Can't wait to see the rims on it, like the rose petals but IMO steels will look better. Hi Alex
    Looks waaaay better without the roundels in my view. I would also remove the boot lamp, fill it with steel, lead load it and have it painted. Should be no problem to match the colour, as you say, if it was only painted a few months ago. I’d be interested in buying the door mirrors if you want to sell them... as far as the fuel caps are concerned the early ones were painted body colour, but later ones were chromed and then stainless: can’t remember when the changes were made.
    In the sixties and seventies, the standard response to the hydrolastic suspenders was to whip them out and put in dry units with hi-los. It was easily reversible if you kept the hydro units, although nobody worried about originality in those days. The hydrolastics were always considered a pain: very comfortable on the 1100s and 1300s for which they were developed, but gave rise to dreadful pitching on the mini, and then would start to sag at one side, or burst completely. Getting them pumped back up became a chore. Dry is definitely the way to stay.
    Lat thing: I worry about you running a car in a closed garage for half an hour. Carbon monoxide poisoning will put you to sleep before killing you, especially dangerous for someone in a chair. A standing person will fall over and drop to where the concentration is lower, near the floor, although they may well die too: blood LOVES carbon monoxide, and it’s quite difficult for the body to get rid of it and replace it with oxygen. A bit of large bore hose plumbed to outside is worthwhile if it’s too cold to open the door. Take care, mate, really don’t want a video of you passing out or worse....

    • @classicminidetails8887
      @classicminidetails8887  3 года назад

      Thanks mate, i have a book coming that will tell me pretty much everything about cooper S's. The boot lid is already underway mate and i will upload a video on it when its done explaining why i have dome it the way i have. The dry suspension is certainly a must for me, part of me does want to put it back how it should be but then i think am i just doing it for the sake of it? End of the day early cars came dry so its not that bad i suppose. I dont know how hard it was to see in the video but the bottom section of my garage door was open about 3ft mate 👍 dont worry those fumes are absolutely deadly.

The one project I'd deffo give the swerve would be the reverse lamp, I understand why you want to do it, but won't it open up a can of worms for you re the hole left in the boot lid and then the colour matching when you've dealt with it or am I over complicating things.
