Jesus I barely recognize Ford in this role. He just vanishes into this character. You can see how much he put into this performance. The manic energy, the movements, the expressions he gives even how he speaks are so radically different to his normal acting. He was deep into this role. No wonder he calls this his favorite role. It’s the only one where he was able to play someone completely opposite to himself and he nailed it. Too bad the critics gave this film a bad rating. If this succeeded then who knows how far Harrison could’ve expanded his career beyond playing charismatic handsome man. I can see why he’s checked out so much whenever he films. You can only play an archetype so many times before it just becomes stale.
For what it’s worth this was Harrison Fords best performance in my book. And this was proof that had Hollywood had the gots to do it, they could’ve used him in more roles and taken him from Gen X’s John Wayne; to Di Niro legendary levels. He’s a success and deservedly respected but he had so much more potential that was never realized until fairly recently.

The Reverend Spellgood tries to get Allie to convert, giving him a special Bible (called the "Blue Jeans Bible," because the cover is made out of discarded blue jeans), but Allie rejects it, and quotes Ecclesiastes. Spellgood then tries again, "There are many rooms in my father's house, but I am the door."

Jack Nicholson would have been perfect for this role though, and the studio/producers paid Harrison Ford the same salary that Jack was demanding.. But I'm sure they figured all around less headache, and we don't want this guy to think he's worth 'less' than Jack, even if he didn't have quite the pedigree, aside from the Star Wars movies, which he wasn't even the primary protagonist.. I also think it was to spite Jack...
Too bad, he would have been so much better, as this is totally 'his type of character.' Harrison Ford was too straight laced/women found him hunky... Although I'm glad he enjoyed playing the part.

How can the evolution theory hold up against the fact that humans thousands of years ago built structures that cannot be replicated by current “evolved” human technology?

I don’t know what is going on but… There have been more than hundreds of millions of Missionaries, Archeologists and Linguists all over this damn Earth.
All in search of one thing… Ancient technology lol.
In my opinion, and there it shall be, time and accomplishment is like a swinging pendulum.
Look around, all the white accomplishment is being erased before our very eyes!
I think the aforementioned people, archeologists, missionaries and linguists…interpreted a LOT of things wrong.
and all that I can do is lol.

As traumatic as this experience was for the mother and her children, it pales in comparison to the barbaric savagery that U.S social workers and psychiatry have done/are doing to many American families.
His downfall was probably due to not converting his family to Christianity.

True. I do not know about finding religion.... But one thing is for sure - when this movie was made people thought that this movie showed the dangers of the Right. Now we are here - and so is the Left. We are so close to OVER - even the right doesn't even know.

Your first and last of 3 points are true, but River was not technically raised atheist. His family was in a weird cult called the Children Of God, one which used child labour and encouraged "free love". It would have been enough to drive anyone atheist.
