  • In this video I show you how I build the odor imprinting tubes step by step. I have noticed a lot of questions about where to get the material and how to drill the space for the reward.

    Thanks for this video. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the base was called (PVC closet flange) until you outright said it.

      I use to buy lowes out. I’ve continued to modify my training but use the bases of these for containers in training class.

    My question. I know we are to reward as close to scent as possible. That being said, when dog is starting out, does the smell of the treat stay on the PVC thereby maybe contaminating the odor that we are targeting? I’m hoping I made sense. Very new to this. Thank you

    Can you do a video on how to build a scent wall? Thanks

    • @FamilyFirstK9
      @FamilyFirstK9  4 месяца назад

      What type of scent wall? We have the rack we built for the randy hare boxes , we also have a bsd wall we can build where it shoots the toy reward at the dog or we can do the old one with elbows to drop in food and tug.

    I made my imprinting tubes using this guide and I would like to suggest maybe a 3inch hole. I’m scraping up my hands rewarding through a 2in hole.

      Great tip! I also for fearful dogs often use just the base. That video will be coming up shortly.

    Hello, love the video. I’m just starting out, but my question is, if a dog is to indicate where a scent is and a treat is delivered on top of the scent, would the dogs saliva and treat leave a scent on the pvc to where he would Indicate on the treat smell in repeat tries instead of the target scent? Just wondering how that works. Thank you

      I have moved away from the tubes and started using the bases that can be seen creating a scentwork champion episode 3 and episode 4. In the beginning food is placed in the bowl but quickly taken away. Since we are marking when the dogs nose goes inside the bowl of the base we then reward outside. After every use I do clean the pvc but don't overthink the process. The food reward we use such as my dogs I typically use hot dogs and dog saliva are things we proof off of in the future. I always run distractionary odors when i train especially food and toys. Check out the membership section t see all the steps involved in training a detection dog.

    I was able to locate everything you suggested on the Lowes website with the exception of the Casper 3” drop in drain. Can you send me the link to this product?

      I'm not finding them on their website at this time either. If you go to lowes and look around they usually have several boxes in the plumbing section. You can also go to my video on bsd food reward system and click on the link to purchase some premade already from elitek9. If you want the modified version like I have you will have to call them and tell them.

    Can this tube design be used on a K9 Scent Wall? I am building a scent wall for my Eagle Scout project. Thanks! Adam

      I'd be happy to send you pictures of my scentwall. It has been used by hundreds of dogs over the years and is still holding up.

      Got it. Shipping internationally for me makes it expensive. However you can purchase some already made from places like elitek9.com and they are set up to ship. It would literally cost me more to ship to you than it would to be worth.

    Can you make a list of the things needed? Thanks

    • @FamilyFirstK9

      Everything is mentioned per name and size. The base is just 2x12 cut into 12 inch sections. But the tube, base and drain are all described and everything can be purchased at lowes.

      For the Netherlands, the link for Amazon does not work with the necessary items and sizes. How do I find out what I need with the right sizes?

    How tall is the 45° elbow and are you saying stream or street please.

    • @FamilyFirstK9
      @FamilyFirstK9  8 месяцев назад

      It’s a street elbow, however I don’t use the elbows anymore as a lot of pet dogs are fearful to approach and they are difficult to reward with. We have switched totally to the food reward devices seen in this video

      You would have to price the materials at Lowe’s or Home Depot. I haven’t built any in a long time as we modified this system .
